Nicely concentrated, plush and elegant, and very fresh for a wine from Vistalba (I would have guessed that this wine included some Uco Valley fruit). How Many bottles/singles: 21.99 each

SAM-1436. 13 FABRE MONTMAYOU GRAND VIN MENDOZA RED
Parker 94: 'The top of the range is the 2013 Fabre Montmayou Grand Vin, which is a blend of mostly Malbec from Vistalba, with a little 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot from the old vines around the winery, their oldest vineyard. This is a classical Bordeaux blend with superb balance and elegance, with very good acidity and some spicy oak from 16 months in French oak barrels. The palate is medium to full-bodied with fine-grained tannins. This is ready now but has great concentration, freshness and balance for a slow and positive development in bottle. $45.'

SAM-1446. 16 LA POSTA PIZZELLA VINEYARD UCO VALLEY MALBEC
Parker 91: 'A Malbec from La Consulta, the 2016 Malbec Pizzella Vineyard was partly aged in used oak barrels for 12 months. This is clearly my favorite among all the single-vineyard reds, as it has varietal character and is clean, focused and fresh. It is clearly better than the 2017 too. Drink 2018-2021. $18.'
How Many bottles/singles: 15.99 each

SAM-1447. 17 DOMAINE JEAN BOUSQUET TUPUNGATO MALBEC
2015: Wine & Spirits 92: 'Grown organically in Gualtallary, this is a terrific value, a crystal-clear expression of the grape grown in the heights of the Uco Valley. There's no oak, or anything extravagant about it, just pure and crunchy cherry flavors and flowery notes, with the mineral acidity to refresh roast duck. $14.'

SAM-1448. 17 ZORZAL TERROIR UNICO UCO VALLEY MALBEC
At 5000'. Unoaked. Oh, full, bright, young, upbeat black cherry malbec nose. Sweet fruit./ Great acid and form. Some tannin yet. Fine future. 91+/100.
How Many bottles/singles: 14.99 each

SAM-1449. 15 ZORZAL GRAND TERROIR TUPUNGATO VALLEY MALBEC
Vinous 92: 'Full ruby-red. Expressive aromas of blackberry, black cherry, licorice and bitter chocolate complicated by violet and a light feral note. Juicy, intense red and darker berry fruit flavors are lifted by notes of spices and crushed chalk. I did not taste this wine next to the 2016 version (which I sampled in Uco Valley), but this is clearly a fuller, plusher, somewhat sweeter style, showing a fine-grained texture, very broad tannins and superb fruit persistence. This may ultimately be less floral and penetrating than the young '16 and perhaps not quite as long but it hardly lacks for energy. And it will give more pleasure over the next few years. Drink now-2026.'
How Many bottles/singles: 18.99 each

SAM-1450. 15 ZORZAL EGGO TINTO DE TIZA TUPUNGATO VALLEY RED
Parker 94: ‛The one blend in the Eggo range is the 2015 Eggo Tinto de Tiza, which mixes Malbec with 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon fermented in 2,000-liter egg-shaped cement vats where the wine matured for almost one year. This feels quite complete and balanced, with good ripeness while keeping the balance and poise. The palate is juicy and fresh, with fine-grained tannins and a bittersweet finish akin to sour cherries. Very tasty and long. Super. Incredible for the price. Drink now-2021. $28.‛
How Many bottles/singles: 25.99 each

SAM-1451. 16 ANTUCURA VISTA FLORES VALLE DE UCO MALBEC
By globe-trotting oenologist, Michel Rolland, a partner in Clos de los Siete. Modern; shows the Rolland hand. Smooth, suave, well crafted./ Again, well textured, well balanced. A polished presentation, and a good one. The price is right. 90/100.
How Many bottles/singles: 14.99 each

SAM-1452. 16 FAMILIA ZUCCARDI Q PARAJE ALTAMIRA-VISTA FLORES VALLE DE UCO MALBEC
Parker 92: 'The 2016 Q Malbec was sourced mostly from Altamira but has some grapes from Chacayes. It fermented with 50% full clusters in concrete vats, and some 30% of the wine aged in used 225- and 500-liter oak barrels. The oak is unnoticeable, and in fact, I find similarities with the Concreto -- pure, strict, raw and characterful, with plenty of fine-grained, chalky tannins. I find it to be incredibly good and with an amazing price for what it delivers. Availability should also be very good, as they produced 350,000 bottles of it. This is one to buy by the case. It was bottled between December 2017 and March 2018 from the same blend. Drink now-2022.'
How Many bottles/singles: 18.99 each

SAM-1453. 15 FAMILIA ZUCCARDI CONCRETO ALTAMIRA MALBEC
Parker 94: 'The second vintage of this unoaked, groundbreaking Malbec, the 2015 Concreto Malbec was produced with grapes from Paraje Altamira that fermented in cement vats with indigenous yeasts (a constant in Zuccardi nowadays) and matured in concrete vats--hence the name--until it was bottled in December 2015. Here they use grapes that only come from parts of their vineyards that have less than 20 centimeters of soil and the calcium carbonate content is the highest they have, as they want this to be pure expression of chalk. The nose is a little reticent, not explosive, a little backward, transmitting a sense of seriousness and harmony. But, the palate is electric, you really feel like you're licking the limestone-covered stones that you have in the vineyards. The nose comes back slowly after time in the glass, with a cocktail of flowers and wild herbs, what you smell when you walk the countryside, especially after it has rained. This is a noteworthy follow up to the groundbreaking first vintage of this wine, possibly with one extra degree of precision and clarity, ending with a dry, dusty sensation, avoiding sweetness at all cost. This is all texture and salinity. Maybe not for all, but I loved it. Drink 2017-2023. $38.'
How Many bottles/singles: 23.99 each

SAM-1454. 16 CALLIA ALTA VALLE DE TULUM SAN JUAN MALBEC
San Juan rich, high altitude bright. Steady as she goes, vintage after vintage./ Black fruit cremes. A really rich vintage. Some oak and tannin. Thorough. 91/100.
How Many bottles/singles: 12.99 each

SAM-1455. 16 BODEGA COLOME AUTENTICO CALCHAGUI VALLEY MALBEC
Vinous 92+: ‛from 100+-year-old vines planted at 2,300 meters; made without oak): Saturated bright ruby. Pungent, pure, primary aromas of candied blackberry, black cherry, cassis, bitter chocolate and spices; conveys a superripe, even slightly figgy hint of thick, sun-drenched skins without loss of focus. Just as backward on the palate, with its kirsch, cassis and dark chocolate flavors complicated by violet and mineral components; shows increasing creaminess and depth with time in the glass without losing its penetrating quality. Finishes with firm tongue-dusting, well-buffered tannins and slowly mounting length. Some outstanding 2016 reds were made a world away in Uco Valley, but very few of them can match this classically dry Salta wine for texture. I give this an edge over its 2015 sibling for its more obvious definition and stronger impression of acidity. I love the "rawness" of this wine and its purity and complexity. Drink 2021-2028. $65.‛
How Many bottles/singles: 23.99 each

SAM-1456. 18 ALFREDO ROCA FINCAS LA PERSERVERANCIA & SANTA HERMINIA SAN RAFAEL PINOT NOIR
2017: There it is again: that smoky throw-back to Burgundies of yore. Smoked cherry. Unique in its field, year after year./ Pleasing body. Special combo of ripe and tart pinot fruit elements, and that smoky-gamy aura. Perfect old time Burgundy cherry and earth. Sweet pinot with cherry fruit, leaf, tea. Fine tannin. Juicy, flowing finish. Old reliable; no other pinot like it. 91+/100.

SAM-1460. 17 FAMILIA ZUCCARDI SERIE A SALTA TORRONTES
Parker 91: 'The 2017 Torrontes Serie A from Salta was cropped from a dry year that was slightly cooler than 2016 (remember, this is Salta, not Mendoza). The grapes come from vines planted at 1,800 to 2,000 meters in altitude. The juice, partly from direct pressing and partly with five hours of maceration, fermented at low temperature with selected yeasts, and the wine was bottled unoaked. It's floral, citrusy and spicy, with varietal aromas and an herbal touch of oregano. It's fresh and balanced, with a dry finish. This is one for the dining table. The wine was kept with the lees until it was bottled in December 2017. Drink now-2021.

Wine & Spirits 94 - Top 100 Best Buys: ‛The structure of this wine is unusual for Maipo, where it's rare to find such a stony, intense and powerful cabernet. This has an herbal side, and it is filled with minty and red fruits, but its main aspect is its verticality. It comes from the alluvial soils of Mariscal, on the northern bank of the Maipo River, one of the prime growing areas in the Maipo Alto zone. SAM-1482. 16 MONTES ALPHA COLCHAGUA VALLEY SYRAH
2012: Wine Spectator 92 - TOP 100: Deeply colored and voluptuous, with a lush, spicy aroma and rich flavors of blackberry, blueberry and dark plum. Concentrated chocolate mousse notes emerge midpalate, leading to a cream-filled finish that ends with plenty of mocha accents. Drink now through 2021.'

SAM-1483. 14 MATETIC CORRALILLO SAN ANTONIO VALLEY SYRAH
Wine & Spirits 94: 'Austere at first, this wine shows only its impetuous acidity and its tannins, as hard as the granite from the Coastal Range of Chile. Then, with some air, it begins to reveal red fruit flavors and smoky notes as the wine gains in complexity. It's bright, even as it's densely extracted, its blackberry flavors underlined by firm acidity. This comes from El Rosario, where Matetic farms their vines biodynamically, 11 miles off the Pacific Coast. $28.'

SAM-1485. 16 MATETIC EQ COASTAL CASABLANCA VALLEY SAUVIGNON BLANC
Parker 92+: 'The almost transparent 2016 EQ Coastal Sauvignon Blanc from Casablanca was produced with grapes grown at 12 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean on decomposed granite and mica soils. It fermented in stainless steel, barriques and concrete amphorae where it's kept with lees for four months, which represents the essence of what Matetic Sauvignon Blanc is about: citric, salty, with a balanced palate and good persistence. It's subtle and elegant, a restrained style of Sauvignon, more about the place (sea breeze, granite) than the variety. Beautifully textured, in the style of a Sancerre, with no influence from the oak, with a notable absence of herbal notes, as they avoided the clones that lend those aromas. Very food friendly, this wine is about the palate rather than the nose. Awesome value. This was started in 2001, but since 2007 it has been fine-tuned to a more elegant style. 2017 to 2021. $18.'
