ROSE

RFS-2757. 21 CAHORS ROSE, DOMAINE DE BERANGERAIE

How Many bottles/singles: $11.99 each

RFS-2758. 21 COTES DE GASCOGNE ROSE PLAISIR, DOMAINE CASSAGNOLES    91+/100

All cabernet sauvignon this vintage. The variety spells a particularly vivid rose color. Red currant and red raspberry aromas. Still a little quiet in youth, yet doesn't seem to bear as much sulphur at the stage as some earlier vintages. The flavors are quite forthcoming. There's cab sauv framework. I'm not big on cab sauv roses usually, so this comes as a pleasant surprise. Very yielding already from both flavor and texture standpoints. More to come. 91+/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $10.99 each

RFS-2759. 21 FRANCAIS SUD OUEST NEGRETTE ROSE, LIONEL OSMIN

How Many bottles/singles: $11.99 each

RFS-2760. 21 ROSE D’ANJOU LE PETIT ST. LOUIS, CHATEAU DE MONTGUERET

How Many bottles/singles: $11.99 each

RFS-2761. 21 BOURGUEIL ROSE, DOMAINE DE LA CHANTELEUSERIE    92/100

Silicious clay; vines averaging 35 years; 30% saignee, 70% direct press; no malo. Pale peach color. A good and fresh, red raspberry scented classic. Nice and crisp in 2021. Plenty of flavor, and even more textural interest. Good acidity of course. Mouthfilling and lengthy. 92/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $17.99 each

RFS-2762. 21 CHINON ROSE RENE COULY, COULY-DUTHEIL    91+/100 *

Est. 1921; from alluvial terraces of sand and gravel; 12 hour maceration; native yeasts. Oh, that's pretty special. High toned, cool red raspberry report. Runs deep and textured too. Livelier than the 2020 tasted not long ago. Some ferment residuals: lipstick and bitterness. Regardless, this has the pizzazz of a cool vintage. Enjoyed by the group except for the fermentation leftovers, which, it's reported, were gone the next day. Confidence was expressed in its future. 91+/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $19.99 each

RFS-2763. 21 CHINON ROSE, DOMAINE DOZON    91+/100

Vigneron Eric Santier; south of Chinon on the left bank of the Vienne; from vines under 30 years old. Full in both body and fruit delivery, as it usually is. No ferment residuals; still, it hasn't yet attained its full flavor and texture intensity and range. Just shipped, and, frankly, showing more fulfillment than I had expected. Will improve throughout the year and well into 2023. 91+/100. Tasted 7/6/22.

How Many bottles/singles: $18.99 each

RFS-2764. 21 CHINON ROSE, DOMAINE JEAN-MAURICE RAFFAULT    91/100

Est. 1693; from sandy alluvial soil near the Vienne. Oh that's a pretty, pretty, and really quite intense red raspberry cab franc rose nose. Defines the genre. A round, ripe texture even in a high acid vintage. Not that the acid isn't extra vigorous compared to the last three vintages. All spells a desirable classic. 91/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $14.99 each

RFS-2765. 21 TOURAINE ROSE LE VIGNETTE THIERRY DELAUNAY

How Many bottles/singles: $11.99 each

RFS-2766. 21 SANCERRE ROSE, DOMAINE DAULNY    92+/100

Daulny has 40 acres in 50 parcels, including some of the AOC's top sites, such as Monts Damnes; vines average 40 years. Strawberry scented and brisk. Aroma runs deep. Some fermentation residual issues on the palate still, primarily the astringency. While the nose is fulfilled, the palate would appreciate a few more weeks. 92+/100. Or a couple more hours. One attendee commented 'the best Sancerre rose I've tasted recently' (backing this up with an order).

How Many bottles/singles: $23.99 each

RFS-2767. 21 SANCERRE ROSE CHAVIGNOLET, DOMAINE GUENEAU    94/100 *

35 year old vines on caillottes. Pale peach. Well, that's a suitable successor to the 2020, my Sancerre Rose of the Year twelve months back. Something special about the nasal tingle and aromatic beauty. There's aromatic intensity as well. Flavor, substance, minerality, sweet/acid balance, and depth to substantiate that's its up to the quality level of the 2020. Very popular with the group. 94/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $28.99 each

RFS-2768. 21 SANCERRE ROSE, DOMAINE ROGER NEVEU    92/100 *

Est. 1603; at Verdigny; 20 year old vines on caillottes; no malo; unfiltered. Very pale salmon. Certainly fills the nostrils on first contact. Oh, and it's a pretty pink pinot nose of strawberry fruit and leaf. Flavorful and well balanced. Palate togetherness matches nose. Tender degree of dryness, well textured. Lengthy. First rose of his I've tasted. I'm impressed. Enjoyed by the group. 92/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $27.99 each

RFS-2769. 21 SANCERRE ROSE TERRE DE MAIMBRAY, DOMAINE PASCAL ET NICOLAS REVERDY    91+/100

Maimbray is adjacent to Chavignol; Kimmeridgian limestone soil, At opening, accurate nose waiting to warm and air further. I like the form. More flavor than aroma. Pinot pink fruit. Good 2021 acid. Harmonious; foodworthy. Put together right. 91+/100. The group feeling was that this would improve with age. One attendee voted via purchase.

How Many bottles/singles: $25.99 each

RFS-2770. 21 SANCERRE ROSE CUVEE L'AUTHENTIQUE, DOMAINE THOMAS LABAILLE    91+/100 *

25 year old vines; direct pressed pinot noir; native yeasts; no malo; unfined. At opening, the aroma is unforthcoming. Light pink fruit suggestion. More flavor and texture. 91+/100. This opened up with aeration and was highly praised by attendees.

How Many bottles/singles: $24.99 each

RFS-2771. 21 GARD ROSE, CHANTE PIERRE    91+/100

2019: 50% grenache, 30% carignan, 20% cinsault. Nice and sweet and padded grenache strawberry. Bright red fruits. Balanced and gentle, with its strength (14.5%) well coated and adding body and presence. 91/100. Second day: Served cooler, which seems to have enhanced the aromatics. More texture now too. Maybe aeration was a factor as well. 91+/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $9.99 each

RFS-2772. 21 COTES DU RHONE ROSE NYMPHEA, DOMAINE LES APHILLANTHES    91+/100

Organically grown at Travaillon; 50% grenache, 30% clairette, 20% syrah. Light pink orange. I think that's ready to enjoy. Polished and fruity. Some banana still on the palate. Plenty of red fruit. OK, so maybe a few more weeks to fulfillment. Said to have improved with aeration. 91+/100. Tasted 7/27/22.

How Many bottles/singles: $12.99 each

FR-2773. 21 COTES DU RHONE ROSE, DOMAINE CHARVIN    92/100

2016: Mainly cinsault and grenache, with a little mourvedre and bourboulenc. Oh, full. Big time size and dryness directed to dinner-time applications. Fully charged Charvin approach. A rose for red-wine lovers. 92/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $14.99 each

RFS-2775. 20 TAVEL LES QUEYRADES, DOMAINE PASCAL LAFOND    93/100

Nice, full red orange Tavel color. Oh, the nose is ultra forthcoming, featuring a range of red fruits and berries, and even red citrus fruits. Couldn't be more generous. Dry and full, with the aroma range fully confirmed in its flavor spectrum. Tavel to the max. And more up front than usual. A Tavel to use this year rather than next. 93/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $19.99 each

RFS-2776. 21 TAVEL ROC EPINE, DOMAINE LAFOND    93+/100

2020: Grenache 60%, cinsault 10%, syrah 5 %, carignan 5%, plus clairette, picpoul, bourboulenc, mourvedre; 40+ year old vines. Deep carmine color. Oh, man, this is just bursting with red fruit intensity while getting across rose freshness at the same time. Aromas are deep and variegated to the extent rarely found in rose outside of Tavel. Dry, with light banana ferment residual that is dominated by red fruit flavor. Weeks out still, and bound to improve well into its second year. 93+/100. Tasted 4/14/21.

How Many bottles/singles: $21.99 each

RFS-2777. 21 TAVEL CUVEE DES LYS, CHATEAU DE MANISSY    92/100

50% grenache, 30% clairette, 20% syrah. Medium red orange color. Quite the heftier experience. On the basis of terroir rather than alcohol. Broad aromatic range of Tavel and also the unique cuvee that incorporates both a white grape and a very dark red one. A lot of flavor spiel too as a result of both factors. Oh, this just swells up in the mouth. What Tavel is all about. And, like Vacqueyras, no two alike. The group enjoyed this. 92/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $21.99 each

Door-opener cuvee of Provemce Commanderie de Peyrassol, in the foothills of the Maures 10 miles from the Mediterranean; 50% cinsault, 40% grenache, 8% syrah, 2% carignan. Boy, that's abundantly fruity and forthcoming. And oh so pretty in pink. Both lithe and well extracted. Flavorful, well balanced, totally giving. Tells all there is to tell about Med rose. 92/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $18.99 each

RFS-2781. 21 COTE DE PROVENCE ROSE TENTATIONS, CLOS CIBONNE

How Many bottles/singles: $18.99 each

RFS-2782. 19 COTES DE PROVENCE TIBOUREN ROSE CRU CLASSE CUVEE TRADITION, CLOS CIBONNE    (94/100)

Wine & Spirits 94: 'Vinified in the estate's 100-year-old foudres and aged under a veil of yeast, this tibouren-dominant blend is dense and butterscotch-scented, needing time in the glass to unpack. It slowly moves toward fruity notes of button mushrooms, then turns more savory, finishing on notes of wild thyme and bitter orange, limestone and sea air. Decant before serving, and pair with roasted fish dusted with za'atar. $34.'

How Many bottles/singles: $27.99 each

RFS-2783. 21 COTES DE PROVENCE ROSE BY OTT, DOMAINES OTT    92/100

2020: Already fulfilled thanks to an early harvest. No fermentation residuals. Plenty of aromatic push, class, and beauty. The real deal. Yes, full in the mouth as Provence roses go. Very prominent flavors and textures. Bravo! 80% of the fruit comes from Ott's Chateau de Selle and Clos Mireille vineyards. 60% grenache, 28% cinsault, 8% syrah, 4% mourvedre. 92/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $28.99 each

RFS-2784. 21 COTES DE PROVENCE ROSE, CHATEAU LA MASCARONNE    94/100

2020: Full, sweetly fruity, and delightful. Really gives. Role-model Provence rose. Full, sweet, and juicy. There's so much give here, so much material. So much to like. Really, one of the best 2020 roses I've tasted. 94/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $24.99 each

RFS-2785. 21 COTEAUX D'AIX EN PROVENCE ROSE, COMMANDERIE DE BARGEMONE    92/100

40% grenache, 25% cab sauv, 20% syrah, 10% cinsault, 5% rolle. Cool, close pink fruit spread. The center varieties add more red fruit than found in most Provence roses. There's that rolle air of relief as well. This spells entertainment. Nice and crisp this vintage. Good varietal spread of feels and flavors. Indeed, this is mentally as well as sensually stimulating. I don't write that about many roses. Comes as no surprise with this cuvee. 92/100. Attendees, well versed in Bargemone vintages, agreed whole heartedly.

How Many bottles/singles: $19.99 each

RFS-2786. 21 COTES DE PROVENCE SAINT VICTOIRE ROSE, DOMAINE HOUCHART    (90/100)

Parker 90: 'The wine to buy from Houchart is the 2021 Cotes de Provence Sainte-Victoire Rose, a pale flamingo-hued blend of 53% Grenache, 23% Syrah, 11% Cinsault, 9% Mourvedre and 4% Carignan. Hints of crushed stone help to offset the slightly confected scents of cherries, peaches and lime on the nose, while the medium-bodied palate is juicy and mouthwatering, with just enough texture to give it staying power on the finish. $25.'

How Many bottles/singles: $19.99 each

RFS-2787. 20 BANDOL ROSE, DOMAINE BASTIDE BLANCHE    93+/100 *

71% mourvedre, 14% grenache, 12% cinsault, 3% clairette. Full, rich, round, robust, voluminous, noble, generous. The early harvest brings this to fruition sooner than, say, the 2018. Just saturated with strawberry and pink peach. Mouthful of fruit flavor and structure. Good acidity and balance. Fully accomplished at this stage, yet it will serve for many, many months more. Very popular with the group. Orders taken. 93+/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $22.99 each

RFS-2788. 19 BANDOL ROSE RESERVE, BIELER PERE    93/100

52% mourvedre, 26% cinsault, 22% grenache. The Aix en Provence rose was nice. However, this is decidedly bigger. Wow, real Bandol rose richness, scope, and depth of aromas. Wide spectrum of red fruits. Very attractively fruity. Strawberry, raspberry, loganberry. What a treat! With the Bastide Blanche sold out, this is the go to Bandol rose value. 93/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $21.99 each

RFS-2789. 21 BANDOL ROSE, CHATEAU DE LA NOBLESSE    92+/100

50% mourvedre, 25% each grenache, cinsault; up to 60 year old vines. Medium salmon color. Wow, this is Bandol rose big and serious. Largesse; old vines intensity. Fills the nostrils. And the mouth. Mourvedre purple core. Round, soft fruit coats it nicely. There are brighter, fruitier takes. This one impresses with weight and volume. One panelist also noted its structure, power, and size. 92+/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $26.99 each

RFS-2790. 21 BANDOL ROSE, DOMAINE TEMPIER     (93/100)

Parker 93: 'Not included in the blind tasting at the local syndicat, Tempier's 2021 Bandol Rose nevertheless looked good when I tasted it at the estate. It's a very fine, elegant example of Bandol rose, with notes of passion fruit and pink grapefruit leading the way in a tightly knit, medium-bodied package that adds promising hints of white peach and anise on the lingering finish. Drink now-2024.'

How Many bottles/singles: $42.99 each

RFS-2791. 21 HERAULT ROSE, MOULIN DE GASSAC

NY Timnes 20 Under $20: '50 percent cinsault, 30 percent carignan and 20 percent grenache. A great value, it's dry and refreshing, with flavors of licorice and herbs. $12.'

How Many bottles/singles: $9.99 each

RFS-2792. 20 COTES DE THAU ROSE, DOMAINE MONTMASSOT    92/100

Cinsault, grenache from slopes above the Etang (lagoon) de Thau SW of Montpellier. Sweet and bountiful Med fruit, not without an acid edge to keep it crisp,/ Yes, sweetly fruity and flavorful. Strawberries galore. 92/100.

RFS-2793. 21 COTEAUX D'ENSERUNE PICQUE POUL ROSE, VIGNOBLES FONCALIEU    92/100

The palest of peaches. Full and explicit nose. Only the second rose picpoul I've nosed. Like the first, this talks the talk. The pink peel extracts come though. Flavorful, well textured, even quite powerful. Long. Got to have this. 92/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $15.99 each

RFS-2794. 21 CORBIERES ROSE, CHATEAU MONTFIN

RFS-2796. 21 ILE DE BEAUTE ROSE, DOMAINE VETRICCIE    0++/100 *

2020: 40% niellucciu, 30% sciaccarellu, 15% each grenache, merlot; clay soil; night harvested. Very cold and shy upon opening. Stirring coaxes some fruit forth. Quiet on the palate still too. Some reduction under hermetic screwcap. Hard for me to judge it fairly at this juncture. An hour and two later it showed the group more aromatics and lift. Will fill out on into the summer. 90++/100. Tasted 4/28/21.

How Many bottles/singles: $15.99 each

RFS-2797. 20 PORTUGAL DRY ROSE MATEUS, VINHOS SOGRAPE

How Many bottles/singles: $10.99 each

RFS-2798. 21 MINHO ROSE, NORTICO    91+/100

40% each alvarelhao, pedral, 20% vinhao; vines average age 40 years, on schist and granite. Light SUS obscures the full aroma potential. Plenty of pink fruit comes out with time. Some sulphur grip on the palate yet. Again, the fruit basis is obvious, and beginning to push through. After aeration, the sulphur cleared, and the wine improved into the next day. 91+/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $15.99 each

RFS-2799. 21 GETARIAKO TXAKOLINA ROSE RUBENTIS, AMEZTOI    (92/100)

2020: Vinous 92: 'Shimmering orange-pink. Pungent cherry and red berry scents take on floral and spice nuances with air. Shows silky texture and good depth to the zesty red currant and bitter cherry flavors, which turn sweeter through the midpalate. Smoothly blends heft and energy and finishes long and nervy, with a hint of bitter orange pith adding final bite. Drink now-2024. $23.'

How Many bottles/singles: $21.99 each

RFS-2800. 20 GETARIAKO TXAKOLINA ROSE GETARIA, TXOMIN ETXANIZ    91+/100

Upon opening., some H2S to throw off. And pink fruit making a forceful statement. Good, tart, even astringent, pink fruit. Needs time to blossom forth. Indeed, along with the 2020 white, a mealworthy pair of Basque wines of extra amplitude and bottle age potential this vintage. 91+/100. Tasted 2/9/22.

How Many bottles/singles: $17.99 each

RFS-2801. 21 RIOJA ALAVESA ROSADO, BODEGAS OSTATU    91/100 *

FORTIFIED

RFS-2804. ST. JULIAN SOLERA MICHIGAN CREAM SHERRY half liter

2017 and 2018 Michigan Wine Competition Double Gold Medal, Best of Class Trophy. On his ten-day visit to Michigan's vineyards in 2002, Master of Wine Tom Stevenson paid compliments to many of the wines. In his followup article in April's Decanter Magazine, he awards the highest rating, 5 Stars, to four wines, including this one. He comments: 'It has the colour of a genuine old fino, the nose and palate of an extremely fine, genuinely old amontillado, albeit a tad sweeter, and amazing length and elegance, but it is its crystal-clear brilliance that entrances.'

How Many bottles/singles: $14.99 each

RFS-2805. HIDALGO LA GITANA MANZANILLA SHERRY half liter    (98/100)

Wine News 98: 'Clean, pure, fresh appley nose. Clean, crisp, delicate and charming with nutty almond flavors, lovely mouth-feel and long, salty, green olive finish. Ethereal; a whisper of the sea.' From a complex 17-stage criadera, manzanilla doesn't get any better than this. Now marketed in smart half-liter bottles. Manzanilla is delicate; its qualities are fleeting. After opening, refrigerate it, and consume within a month or you will lose many of its ethereal beauties.

How Many bottles/singles: $19.99 each

RFS-2806. LUSTAU SOLERA RESERVA PAPIRUSA MANZANILLA SHERRY

Decanter 95: 'Mid-gold. Smoky and toasty on the nose. Palate is satisfying, full and spicy with a typically clean, long finish. Ripe apple fruit lies underneath and there's a delicate, smoky saline charm. Moving to a fino style rather than the delicacy of a manzanilla, showing more texture.'

How Many bottles/singles: $18.99 each

RFS-2807. RAINERA PEREZ MARIN LA GUITA SANLUCAR DE BARRAMEDA MANZANILLA SHERRY    96/100

Oh, this is clean as a whistle. And fully alert. Total, textbook manzanilla. Yes, lithe and pure. Almond, green olive, and sea salt. Definitive. And well priced. Got to have some of this in my fridge. 96/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $15.99 each

RFS-2808. CESAR FLORIDO CRUZ DEL MAR CHIPIONA FINO SHERRY half bottle    93/100

15%. Fresh, full, genuine. Full fino, certainly not manzanilla. Wow, large fino. Nut, almond, earth, flor, even a wisp of leather. Wow. 93/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $14.99 each

RFS-2809. GONZALEZ BYASS TIO PEPE FINO EN RAMA 2016    (90/100)

Wine Spectator 90; Wine Enthusiast 90: 'Pine resin, apple and sea brine aromas set up a plump palate with a slick mouthfeel. Dry slightly bitter melon and salty flavors finish long and briny, which is standard for a well-made fino like this.'

How Many bottles/singles: $29.99 each

RFS-2810. GUTIERREZ COLOSIA EL PUERTO DE SANTA MARIA FINO SHERRY    93/100

A full, rather rich Puerto de Santa Maria style of fino with salt air and almonds lift. Spot on. All that carries on the palate. Defines the genre. 93/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $15.99 each

RFS-2811. LUSTAU SOLERA RESERVA JARANA FINO SHERRY    (90/100)

Parker 90: 'The brilliant quality of Emilio Lustau's sherries is indisputable. Sherry remains the world's most underappreciated and undervalued beverage. Certainly the Fino, Dry Amontillado, and Palo Cortado would be amazing with Japanese sushi or rich soups. The crisp, pungent, potent Jarana is redolent of the smells and flavors of roasted nuts.'

How Many bottles/singles: $18.99 each

RFS-2812. PEDRO DOMECQ LA INA VERY DRY FINO SHERRY    92/100

Totally dry. Light, fresh, ventilating sea breeze aroma. Salted almonds. Green olive, sea salt. Mellow, nutty, even lightly 'woody' like a Lustau fino. Appropriately fuller bodied than a manzanilla. Very dry indeed. The salt, the almond--just a wonderful thing. Tells the fino tale 92/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $17.99 each

RFS-2813. VALDESPINO INNOCENTE SINGLE VINEYARD FINO SHERRY half bottle    94/100

Macanardo vineyard, highest in the zone. Dry, crisp, penetrating, classic. The nuttiness, the almond, the sea breeze. Very pronounced and assertive flor aroma. Singular. Very dry, classic fino. Super duper introduction. Nutty, almondy. The relative richness of fino versus manzanilla. Actually, I like the fino padding here. Great fino. Full in the mouth. Yes, unique and pungent in character and texture. Yow. 94/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $15.99 each

RFS-2814. GONZALEZ BYASS VINA AB SECO AMONTILLADO SHERRY    (93/100)

Wine & Spirits 93: 'This is the youngest Amontillado from Gonzalez Byass, with four years of aging under flor and another four years in oxidative aging. True to form, it is a delightful wine, graceful and elegant in its fine balance between acidity, minerality and a soft, almost delicate body. It takes on surprising force with air, a sense of limestone in scent and flavor that propels the wine toward something rich, like grilled sea bass.'

How Many bottles/singles: $31.99 each

RFS-2815. LUSTAU SOLERA RESERVA LOS ARCOS DRY AMONTILLADO SHERRY    93/100

Parker 93: 'The non-vintage Dry Amontillado Los Arcos Solera Reserva reveals a medium amber hue along with a nutty, honeyed, dry personality with great acid.' My notes: Dry and distinguished. Not a bit of youthful stickiness. This is all about sophistication of age: wood, nut, toffee, time in cask bouquet. Yes, full dry, good acidity, good spirit. Perfect weight. Wood, nut. All in pleasing harmony. Fine craftsmanship. 93/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $19.99 each

RFS-2816. VALDESPINO TIO DIEGO DRY AMONTILLADO SHERRY    95/100

Single vineyard. Soaring. Rings my chimes. Classic hickory nut bouquet. The right amontillado body. Fully dry. Fills a niche. 95/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $31.99 each

RFS-2817. GONZALEZ BYASS LEONOR 12 YEAR OLD PALO CORTADO SHERRY    (92/100)

Wine Spectator 92; Wine & Spirits 92: 'Here's a terrific example of the classic Palo Cortado style: One side of this wine is sweet and unctuous, the other more delicate and dry. The two come together in a wine that balances a figgy richness with herbal and mineral notes that last until the very end, leaving a refreshing sensation.'

How Many bottles/singles: $34.99 each

RFS-2818. LUSTAU PENINSULA PALO CORTADO SHERRY    (92/100)

Parker 92: 'One of my favorites among the drier, lighter-styled Sherries is the non-vintage Palo Cortado Peninsula. Medium amber-colored, with great balance, intensity, and acidity as well as a scorched earth/roasted nut character, it is a stunning, flavorful yet light, crisp Sherry.'

How Many bottles/singles: $27.99 each

RFS-2819. VALDESPINO VIEJO C. P. MACHARNUDO VINEYARD PALO CORTADO SHERRY    97/100

Unlike most other Palo Cortados, the creation of this one is well documented. They select the most delicate casks from the ninth criadera (the second stage) of their Fino Inocente and Amontillado Tio Diego soleras and fortify this mixture to around 18° to stop / further prevent the growth of flor. It then enters the Viejo C.P. system, with one solera and four criaderas, where it will complete the oxidative ageing process and soon turn from Fino / Amontillado to Palo Cortado. As Viejo CP is fed from Inocente and Tio Diego, it shares their old-school approach. It is a single vineyard Palo Cortado from the pago Macharnudo Alto, made from barrel-fermented musts. Its average age is estimated to be around 20-25 years. Oh, that's palo cortado, all right! Fino sea breeze briskness, oloroso power, depth, glycerol. Totally penetrating. Positively takes over my nostrils!/ Dry, medium bodied, finely burnished texture, well controlled alcohol level. A beguiling, hard to pin point fruit-flower expression on the aftertaste. 97/100.

RFS-2820. BARBADILLO FULL DRY OLOROSO SHERRY    92/100

Oh, boy, what a sophisticated nuttiness! I mean, it's mixed nuts. Some filbert, some brazil, some walnut. Wow! Lots of subtle intricacies. Some sweet woodiness too, a subtle caramel layer. Truly dry. Sleek, with just the right weight. The flavor goes through and through and lasts a long time. Steal of a price. If only American consumers were more receptive to the obvious mealtime applications of sherries like this. What bargains they're missing! 92/100.

RFS-2821. GONZALEZ BYASS CRISTINA ABOCADO OLOROSO SHERRY    (91/100)

Wine Enthusiast 91: 'The core aroma on this semisweet Sherry is maple syrup, but overall the nose is fresh and vital. Although creamy, this is balanced as a whole. Flavors of mixed nuts and toffee are familiar, while the finish hums along with no faults or bumps.'

How Many bottles/singles: $28.99 each

RFS-2822. GUTIERREZ COLOSIA EL PUERTO DE SANTA MARIA DRY OLOROSO SHERRY    93/100

RFS-2823. LUSTAU SOLERA RESERVA DON NUNO DRY OLOROSO SHERRY    (94/100)

Parker 94: 'If you are looking for a dry sherry made in a slightly more oxidized style, the non-vintage Dry Oloroso Don Nuno Solera Reserva is your choice. Again, a nuttiness (in this case, walnuts) intermixed with a hint of Chinese black tea combine with salty, caramelized flavors make for a delicious glass of sherry.'

How Many bottles/singles: $26.99 each

RFS-2824. PEDRO DOMECQ RIO VIEJO DRY OLOROSO SHERRY    95/100

Deep and viscous, sweet smelling. Nutty, tawny, peachy, perfect. Definition of a fine oloroso. Glycerol supplies a sweet feel to this dry oloroso. Dried fruits, walnut, and hickory nut flavors. The spirit is perfectly integrated. Cool service temperature works here. Awesome stuff. 95/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $16.99 each

RFS-2825. WILLIAMS & HUMBERT DRY SACK AMOROSO SHERRY    91/100

Amoroso: an oloroso sweetened to a lesser degree than a cream. Sweet and nutty. Dried fruit, oak, wood, and spirit. Everything works in tandem. Nice, even-handed approach featuring sweetness, nut, fig, sultana, wood. Certainly drier than a cream. Quite powerful and spirited. Serve cool or on the rocks as the label advises. 91/100.

RFS-2826. ALVEAR CREAM MONTILLA    (91/100)

RFS-2827. GONZALEZ BYASS SOLERA 1847 SUPERIOR CREAM SHERRY     (91/100)

Wine Enthusiast 91: 'Another impressive Oloroso from Gonzalez Byass. This is a sweet, dark, brooding Sherry with prune and other sweet fruit aromas. The palate is rich but has good flow, while dark flavors of dulce de leche and burnt brown sugar are wonderful. Sweet but balanced by mild coffee-like bitterness on the finish.'

How Many bottles/singles: $21.99 each

RFS-2830. LUSTAU SOLERA EAST INDIA SHERRY    (96/100)

Parker 96: 'The dark amber-hued non-vintage East India Solera is essentially an old Oloroso blended with an old Pedro Ximenez, which gives it a sweet character. It offers more mature notes of maple syrup, brown sugar, spice box, raisin and chocolate beer nuts, and its terrific balancing acidity cuts through the sweetness. This delicious effort is best drunk after the meal.'

How Many bottles/singles: $28.99 each

RFS-2831. 1927 SOLERA ALVEAR PEDRO XIMENEZ MONTILLA half bottle    (98/100)

Parker 98: 'The NV Pedro Ximenez Solera 1927 is non-vintage, but does have some 1927 material in it. This is totally dark brown/amber with notes of figs, toffee, caramel syrup, molasses and coffee. It is dense, super sweet, intense, rich and an amazingly, unctuously textured, thick beverage to consume slowly and introspectively after a meal. Drink now through 2050, or even longer.'

How Many bottles/singles: $26.99 each

RFS-2832. DELGADO ZULETA PEDRO XIMENEZ SHERRY    (91/100)

Wine & Spirits 91: 'Flavors of roasted figs and chestnuts play a starring role in this wine. It's nearly as dense as maple syrup, but there's a salinity in the background that keeps the wine balanced. Drink it as a dessert in itself.'

Just to the fruity side of a 10 Year Old Tawny fruit-to-barrel age ratio. Sweet sultana and very good cask maturity. Superior. Aged in 500 liter French barrels. The smaller cooperage may achieve its degree of tawniness over a shorter period. Works for me. 93/100.

RFS-2873. 15 GRAHAM'S LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE PORTO bottled 2021    (91/100)

Parker 91: 'This has all of those Graham's trademarks, including a bit of extra sugar at the end. It's not as powerful as the Symington Cockburn's was on opening, but at the end of the tasting, this actually showed more power. It is also far more elegant and suave, with a big aromatic hit of eucalyptus that makes it invigorating too. Then it is typically Graham's-meaning sweet and delicious. This is nuanced and very fine, an LBV with a bit of a distinction and a lot of everything. It should hold throughout the decade, probably more, but that's not really the point here.'

How Many bottles/singles: $25.99 each

RFS-2874. 17 NIEPOORT LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE PORTO half bottle    94/100

Bottled 2021; est. 1842; from 7+ grape varieties, vines over 70 years old. Powerful in the Taster glass. White dwarf concentration of Niepoort across the board. The upper Douro is thriving on global warming. 94/100.

RFS-2875. 14 QUINTA DO NOVAL SINGLE VINEYARD UNFILTERED LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE PORT    (90/100)

Parker 90: 'The 2014 Unfiltered Late Bottled Vintage Port is a field blend from typical grapes like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cao and Sousao aged for five years in casks. This traditional LBV comes with a long cork. Very respectable for the difficult vintage, and particularly considering that I was not a big fan of Noval's own 2014 Vintage Port, this LBV is impressive in its own right, showing fine power, concentration and structure. The fruit is not quite as expressive as on the 2013-maybe that's where the 2014 vintage rears its head-but it's not bad in that regard (unlike a lot of 2014s). By any measure, this holds up to a lot of lesser Vintage Ports these days. This will be approachable young-but so are a lot of Vintage Ports these days.'

How Many bottles/singles: $26.99 each

RFS-2876. 16 QUINTA DE LA ROSA LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE PORT half liter    2++/100

2015: Bottled in 2019; touriga nacional, touriga franca, sousao; from A graded vineyards. La Rosa's table wines and ports are always black, black, black. The big dose of touriga nacional is clear. As is the early bottling in the permitted 4 to 6 year LBV barrel sojourn window. This is an LBV made to last. Yeah, it's firm, and relatively dry. I love the nuances that peek out around the edges. You won't confuse this with any other LBV, even the stalwart Taylor Fladgate. 92++/100. Tasted 10/27/21.

How Many bottles/singles: $23.99 each

RFS-2877. 16 TAYLOR, FLADGATE LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE PORT    (91/100)

Wine Enthusiast 91: 'One of the original Late Bottled Vintage brands, this continues to set a fine style. This latest release is full of black fruits that have been softened by extra wood aging. At the same time, the richness of the wine shows strongly and emphatically, giving a Port that has density and ready drinkability.'

How Many bottles/singles: $23.99 each

RFS-2878. 08 WARRE'S TRADITIONAL LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE PORT bottled 2012    (92/100)

Wine & Spirits 92: 'The Symingtons hold back their Warre's LBV, bottling it with a driven cork, intending it as an age-worthy wine. Now, at 12 years of age, this wine's dynamic blue-fruit flavors still feel youthful and floral, even though they are fully integrated into the supple tannins. From a relatively cool vintage in the Douro, this should continue to develop well over the coming years, though it is lovely to drink now with Queijo Serra da Estrela, the sheep's milk cheese from the mountains of Dao. $34.'

How Many bottles/singles: $31.99 each

RFS-2879. 00 CROFT VINTAGE PORTO    (93/100)

Exotically spicy and woody. Long time in wood. Getting into the Indian spice stuff. Extravagant and incredible. Fig, date, buckwheat honey, coffee, nutshell. Almost too much for verdelho. RFS-2900. BAGLIO BAIATA ALAGNA MARSALA CREMOVO    94/100

16.5%; 1/3 each insolia, grillo, catarratto. Very attractive egg custard aroma with cardamom, nutmeg, and allspice enhancement. Palate confirms. They nailed this one. How Many bottles/singles: $14.99 each

RFS-2901. COLOMBO FINE DRY MARSALA    91/100

Sweet and a little youthfully fig pasty. Good surge of fig and date aromas. Well, this is really -? I mean actually -? dry, unlike many 'dry' marsalas that are just relatively so. A degree of nutty, woody cask aged sophistication as well as the fruit paste taste of the original material. Good power. 91/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $10.99 each

RFS-2902. COLOMBO FINE SWEET MARSALA    92/100

Sweet but not sticky. Rather sophisticated, really, from wood aging. A 'Fine' oak aged marsala. A player. Not hot and spiritous. Rather, mellow and refined. 92/100.

RFS-2912. 09 MAURY VIN DOUX NATUREL, DOMAINE MAS AMIEL    94+/100

Rich and round and red fruited. As before, relatively low key in its genre. But it's coming up, losing its youthful simplicity and gaining bouquet complexity. Sweet, with a nice roti thing now coming through the fruitiness. No longer a babe in arms. Everything it should be, and still growing. Great price for an over ten-year-old Maury VDN. 94+/100. List price: $35.

How Many bottles/singles: $21.99 each

RFS-2913. 16 BANYULS GRENACHE GALATEO COUME DEL MAS, PHILIPPE GARD half liter    93+/100

Est. 1971; old vines yielding 1.5 tons per acre; fortified while on the peels; aged 6 months in barrels. Well, that's ripe, ripe, rancio grenache, as right it should be. The fortification is on the light side, so it doesn't burn my nostrils even in my Taster glass. Sweetness and old vines and low yield concentration. Peels astringency does more to balance the sweetness than does alcohol. Marks it a unique style of Banyuls. 93+/100.

From both the muscat frontignan (a petits grains) and muscat alexandria. The peachy frontignan and the duskier dried orange peel alexandria both talking. A youthful take. Again, both varieties, in tandem. The power balances the sweetness. Youthful and correct. 90/100.

RFS-2918. RIVESALTES VIN DOUX NATUREL HORS D'AGE 6 ANS, TERRASSOUS    (90/100)

Parker 90: 'The NV Rivesaltes Ambre Hors d'Age 6 Ans has a vibrant, light amber/whiskey color to go with sweet notes of golden raisins, bitter orange, almond and subtle browned sugar. Made from 100% Grenache Blanc and aged six years in barrel, it's medium-bodied, silky, seamless and layered. It lacks complexity and is slightly straightforward with its sweetness, yet it's never cloying and is one sexy drink. $25.'

RFS-2919. RIVESALTES VIN DOUX NATUREL HORS D'AGE 12 ANS, TERRASSOUS    98/100

A sweet wine from grenache blanc, fortified with young grape brandy and then aged 12 years minimum in barrels, which are never topped up. Pungent and perky. Candied orange peel. Shades of a 10 year old tawny port but of white rather than red fruit basis. Sweet and powerful, yet retains a great sense of freshness, great acid lift, texture, ring. Fabulous balance of sweetness, acid, and power. Wonderful accomplishment of 12 years in barrel, so suave and complex, so comfortable. 98/100.

How Many bottles/singles: $31.99 each

Parker 95: 'An absolutely amazing, decadent, luxurious sweet wine, made from 100% Moscatel de Alexandria, the 2014 Botani Victoria #2 comes from the estate's oldest 50-year-old vines and, according to Jorge Ordonez, it takes 17 pounds of grapes to make one 375-milliliter bottle of this elixir. Truly great stuff, it has loads of honeysuckle, caramelized tropical fruits, hints of maple syrup and brown sugar. The wine is rich, fragrant with plenty of flowery notes intermixed with wet pebble-like minerality. It is full-bodied and unctuously textured, but has enough acidity to balance the sweet, rich texture. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.'

RFS-2958. ANDRE CLOUET BOUZY GRAND CRU UN JOUR DE 1911 BRUT CHAMPAGNE    (94/100)

Parker 94: 'The NV Grand Cru Cuvee 1911 emerges from the glass with the most haunting of perfumes. Sweet rose petal and jasmine are some of the nuances that emerge over time. Despite recent disgorgement, the purity of the fruit and the extraordinary elegance of the mousse are hard to miss. This is an exceptional, elegant version of the 1911 that should drink beautifully for years to come. The bottle I tasted needed quite a bit of air to open up, so readers should be patient with the wine at this stage. $100.'

RFS-2959. 15 ANDRE CLOUET BOUZY GRAND CRU SYMPHONY CAP LEOPARD MILLESIME BRUT CHAMPAGNE    96/100 *

80% pinot noir, 20% chardonnay. From Premier and Grand Cru vineyards on the Montagne de Reims. Partially fermented in seasoned oak barrels. 8 g/l dosage. A fresh and fruity demeanor that defines this vintage. Something reminiscent of 2012. The gear oil Bouzy-pinot style of Clouet is softened slightly. But not on the palate. Full bodied, chewy, black fruit flavored. This is not so extracted that it's hard to swallow like 2008, 2014. And I like that. Harmonious, food worthy of course. 96/100. Widely liked by attendees; orders taken.

The entire package is spray painted white. Clouet and Reims body tempered by fruit from Cote des Blancs. A beautiful and unique bouquet presentation. Full yeast autolysis Clouet palate. Great acid. Richly flavored and long. Unique flavor twists, among them kiwi and cantaloupe. And apple cobbler. None other like it. I applaud that. 96/100.

RFS-2961. 13 ANDRE CLOUET BOUZY GRAND CRU DREAM VINTAGE BRUT CHAMPAGNE    94/100

All Bouzy; all chardonnay! Super toasty from its long on lees sojourn. There's something about Montagne de Reims blanc de blancs that's extra heavy duty too. I find it in Coutier's Ambonnay bdb. Wow, big weight and character. Dinner wine for sure. You gotta like this gear-oil style, which comes forth in the top vintages but takes 'elevage' in years like 2013. 94/100.

RFS-2965. AUBRY JOUY LES REIMS PREMIER CRU BRUT CHAMPAGNE    (92/100)

Parker 92; Wine & Spirits 92: 'This is not your typical non-vintage Brut. The Aubry brothers include ancient indigenous varieties, which make up five percent of the blend; pinot meunier accounts for 45 percent, the balance in equal parts pinot noir and chardonnay. Nearly half of the blend is reserve wine, half of that coming from a solera made up of vintages going back to 1998. If all that seems complicated, the wine is not. Instead, it tastes like an essential Champagne, with scents of chalk, oyster mushroom, pear skin and lemon pulp creating a bold surround-sound of flavor. There's purity to the expression and a healthy weight to the wine. Pour it with sea bass roasted with chanterelles.'

RFS-2966. BARNAUT BOUZY GRAND CRU GRANDE RESERVE BRUT CHAMPAGNE    94/100

From the Montagne de Reims, Barnaut's Grande Reserve consists of 2/3 pinot noir and 1/3 chardonnay. Barnaut keeps a 'solera' of reserve wines which contribute to the extraordinary bottle bouquet of this cuvee. Roasted nuts; peanuts in the mix. Red fruit: cherry and currant. Red grapes and grapeskins. Bouzy weight and volume. Big-scaled, toasty, weighty, rich, thick, concentrated red-fruit impressions. Long. VOLUME! Thorough Bouzy. Pinot noir on steroids. Invite it to the table. 94/100.

100% pinot noir. Full, rich blanc de noirs styling. Fabulously full black-fruit concentration. Hallmark Bouzy. Huge nose of toast, nuts, and biscuity yeast autolysis bouquet. Pinot noir strawberry and cherry subtleties. Bursts with toast and red fruit. Bouzy through and through. Wow1 Lots of character. Real giving bdn, no doubt. Got the stuff. Rich, classic Bouzy fullness, ripeness, plumpness. Full squared; mouthfilling. Everlasting finish. Mr Big. A pleasure to drink now. Nonetheless, I'd advise 'losing' a few bottles in the cellar for a couple of years. 97/100.

RFS-2968. BARNAUT BOUZY GRAND CRU ROSE AUTHENTIQUE BRUT CHAMPAGNE    95/100

Barnaut makes its rose by the 'saignee' method whereby color is 'bled' from pinot noir grape skins early in the winemaking process rather than by the addition of still red wine at the end -? a modern development. That's beautiful. Character, quality, pink fruit by the original method. So not gussied up. Not young pink fruit. Not apart from the rest. At the same time, not overly dry. The fruit is still pink, not orange, or blanched. Just as classy as always. Lots of pink fruit, lots of Bouzy bounty. Oh, yeah! Freshness, pink fruit, bottle bouquet. What more could you want? That's got it! 95/100.

RFS-2988. CANARD-DUCHENE ROSE BRUT CHAMPAGNE    94/100

Est. 1868; at Ludes, in the Montagne de Reims Parc National; 45% pinot noir, 30% chardonnay, 25% meunier. That's a well pinked up rose champagne. I mean, the pinot is abundantly clear, and the meunier adds a soft fruitiness. Rose champagne is not meant to be contemplated, right? So this is the proper approach in my opinion. Yeah, alluringly fruity and flavorful, yet not without that biscuity bottle bouquet. All sits well together, to my taste. Come hither: one glass invites another. 94/100.

RFS-2991. CHARLES CHEVALIER D'HONNEUR ROSE BRUT CHAMPAGNE    93/100

NM at Ay; 3 years en tirage. If it were ever a fruity style, bottle age has mellowed its pinkness. There are drier ones out there, usually with more time en tirage. That said, the palate fairly explodes with both fruit and brioche flavors. And great acid. Along with pink fruit 'sweetness. The palate blows me away for the price. Very unusual dichotomy of tasting impressions. The group loved it. Orders taken. 93/100.

RFS-2993. CHARLES HEIDSIECK RESERVE BRUT CHAMPAGNE    (92/100)

Parker 92+: 'Based on the 2014 vintage, complemented by fully 40% old reserve wines, the new release of Charles Heidsieck's NV Brut Reserve was disgorged earlier this year. It's showing very well, opening up in the glass with notes of green apple, dried white flowers, pear, candied peel and walnuts. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a textural attack and a racier, tighter-knit core than either the 2012? or 2010-base renditions, displaying good concentration and underlying richness. This is a bottling that continues to punch above its weight and which both merits and rewards a few years in the cellar before opening. Drink now-2025.'

NM at Chigny les Roses; est. 1884; fifth generation; 1/3 ea meunier, pinot noir, chardonnay; 7 g/l; disgorged 7/18/19. This is expressive of eastern Montagne de Reims terroir. It suggests association with Chigny's J. Lassalle champagnes. It's Reims full, but not to the Bouzy extreme. That said, it's actually a cuvee assembled of three sectors of Champagne, singular champions of each grape variety. It shows an exceptionally well crafted array of varietal components, all in harmony. Plenty of en tirage biscuit too. Palate fully confirms the spread and the compatibility. The dryness level is just right, completing a paean to fine winemaking. 94/100.

Vibrant and delineated, the Expression bursts from glass with dried pears, flowers, almonds and Chamomile. A blend of 47% Pinot Meunier, 40% Pinot Noir and 13% Chardonnay, the Expression is all about texture and volume from the red grapes, which give tons of richness without detracting from the wine's essential energy, tension and pure drive. RFS-3017. HENRI GOUTORBE CUVEE PRESTIGE BRUT CHAMPAGNE    (93/100)

Wine & Spirits 93: 'Focused on pinot noir from Ay and Mareuil-sur-Ay (70 percent), this wine is based on the 2014 vintage; reserves contributed 25 percent to the final blend. It has the rich scent of a bushel of apples in the fall, the clean notes of lightly toasty lees only enhancing the wine's freshness. Smoky chalk notes and flavors of yellow cherries last, the wine substantial enough to serve with pate enriched with Calvados.'

RFS-3018. J. LASSALLE 1ER CRU IMPERIAL PREFERENCE BRUT CHAMPAGNE    (91/100)

Smoky, minerally and spicy aromas of ripe orchard and pit fruits are complemented by deeper notes of sweet butter and honey. Fleshy and broad on entry, then tighter in the middle, offering sappy nectarine and orange flavors and a touch of buttered toast. Spreads out nicely on the finish, which hangs on with very good stony tenacity. $60.'

RFS-3020. JACQUESSON CUVEE NO. 745 EXTRA BRUT CHAMPAGNE    97/100

Based on the 2017 vintage; 2/3 Valle de la Marne, 1/3 Cote des Blancs; still wine vinified and raised on lees in oak casks; unfined, unfiltered; disgorged 12/21; .75 gr/l. Well, that's a pretty full color. Oh, boy, and it reflects the long stay en lattes and generous use of reserve wines. On paper, 744 should show more extract. But it doesn't, really. More reserve wines here? Yeah, this is a chewy, biscuity one. With bright acidity too. Forget DP. This is twice the wine at half the price. And fully up to the 744. 97/100.

RFS-3045. 12 MOUSSE FILS TERRE D'ILLITE BLANC DE NOIRS BRUT CHAMPAGNE

Terry Theise 2 Stars: 'This is Cedric's best wine to date, and gives a thrilling glimpse of what lies ahead for this outstanding vintner. This is 100% from Cuisles, which a local broker calls “The Grand Cru of Meunier,' and with this wine you can clearly see why. It's actively minerally--Meunier! It has the most intricately non-fruit profile I've ever encountered from this variety. Salty, long, fascinating, the core of Meunier that's hidden below the pretty stuff. A dignity. It's para-sensual, beautiful and serious, with herbal notes and spelt bread.'

Half each chardonnay and pinot noir. From a solera of oak vats drawn down 60% and replaced with barrel-fermented new wine. Bottled and aged 3 years en tirage. Well, that has quite the full, toasty nose that speaks of barrel fermentation, long on lattes aging, and plenty of reserve wines. Red fruit fullness more than white fruit finesse. Intriguing concept and results. Full mousse tingle. More sense of white fruit freshness on palate than nose. What a sensory adventure this is! 94/100.

RM at Coulommes la Montagne; 70% meunier, 15% each chardonnay, pinot noir; average vine age: 35 years; en tirage 3.5 years; disgorged 2/12/19; .6 RS. That's a meunier nose, full of bread dough. Speaks for its en tirage spell too. This has more finesse on the palate than last week's lower Marne champagne. Better terroir, same price. Really a pretty respectable value. I didn't know you could have all that meunier in Premier Cru. Very satisfying finish. 92/100.

RFS-3058. PAUL BARA BOUZY GRAND CRU RESERVE BRUT CHAMPAGNE    (93/100)

Wine & Spirits 94; Vinous 92: 'Readers who want to get a sense of broad, powerful Champagnes that are typical of Bouzy will want to check out Bara's NV Brut Reserve Grand Cru. Rich, ample and creamy, the NV Brut Reserve possesses notable depth and richness throughout. Stone fruit, white flowers, mint and smoke impart a sense of real gravitas and depth. This is an especially dense, muscular style, but there is no shortage of personality. I find this edition of the NV Brut Reserve Grand Cru compelling, even if the ripeness is a bit pushed. Then again, that is Bouzy.'

RFS-3061. PIERRE MONCUIT HUGUES DE COULMET BLANC DE BLANCS BRUT CHAMPAGNE    (94/100)

The purity of the wine is compelling, with scents of fossilized oyster shells that could make it seem like a fine Chablis with bubbles. Vinous and rich, this performs far beyond its price. Grab a case for the holidays.'

With flavors that last for minutes, the terroir expression is stunning.'

RFS-3067. R. H. COUTIER AMBONNAY GRAND CRU ROSE BRUT CHAMPAGNE    (92/100)

65% pinot noir, 35% chardonnnay; 2 years en tirage; .45 RS; disgorged 7/21. Really a lot of toast here for the AOC, having well exceeding minimum en tirage requirements. Awesome. The body reflects a high pinot noir proportion too. This is Reims like. On the palate too. Heavy in toast and red fruit. Because it's a CdB from the north, the acid is higher than the norm for the AOC. Maybe more like a Bar than a Reims. Still, I'm making Champagne comparisons. At well below Champagne minium price. Got to have it. Will definitely present to my weekly panel. 93/100.

Pignoletto is an indigenous variety to the Bologna hills, mentioned by Pliny the Elder in his Natural Historia. Fragrant; the spritz brings it forth. Stone fruits, nuts, apples. Very nice. High brut or extra dry sweetness. Plenty of flavor. Apple and chamomile. Fine mousse. Delightful. 92/100.
