INTRODUCTION TO
DOMAINE RAYMOND DUPONT-FAHN
American importer Peter Weygandt writes: ‛Son of Michel, Raymond Dupont-Fahn is a fifth generation wine maker and has worked closely with his father and grandfather from an early age. In just a short career as winemaker he has produced some stunningly great wines from humble appellations Auxey and Bourgogne. After his ‛Bac d'Oenologie‛ diploma at 21, he started to manage his own Domaine of five hectares in 2001. Within this Domaine, he has a vineyard of particular interest. His grandfather purchased the unplanted land in 1975 with the appellation Mersault le ‛Dos d'Ane‛. Part of the terrain also lies on les "Chaumes des Perrieres". His grandfather realized that the soil was not deep enough to plant correctly and asked the permission of the ‛I.N.A.O.‛ to add another 20 cm of topsoil. This was granted to him and this vineyard was completed. This seemed to cause somewhat of a scandal with the other viticulteur of Meursault who got together and had it declassified to Bourgogne blanc as it remains today. However the 27 years old roots lie very deeply below the earth and rock of the original Le dos d'ane appellation and benefits greatly from the climate of ‛Les Perrieres‛. Raymond does not use pesticides in the vines, he does not chaptalize his wines, he usually chooses to harvest on the early side in order to achieve wines with greater acidity and less alcohol. Most elevage for the wines is 20% in new oak and all his barrels are under 3 years of age.‛

s1015-103. 17 BOURGOGNE BLANC CHAUMES DES PERRIERE, DOMAINE DUPONT-FAHN
Located at 50 meters in the Perrieres vineyard, just above Coche-Dury's vineyards. Vines have very deep roots and were planted in 1975. 40% new oak, 60% 1-2 year old barrels. See the above paragraph for more information about the background to this vineyard. Its mention of '27 years old roots' is now obsolete, since as of the 2017 vintage the vines were 42 years old.

INTRODUCTION TO
DOMAINE SAINT DAMIEN
American importer Peter Weygandt writes: ‛St. Damien was an early Christian saint (martyred in the year 287 A.D.), considered the patron saint of doctors. There was a chapel to his honor in the tiny hamlet of La Baumette, just outside the village of Gigondas, where Joel Saurel lives. M. Saurel's predecessors took the name Saint Damien for the domaine. Domaine St. Damien's cuvees of Gigondas have become the reference for classic full-bodied yet fine Gigondas, with scores by all journalists being both consistent and high every vintage. Almost as popular as their high-scoring Giogondas cuvees, are their Cotes-du-Rhone bottlings for their intense concentration and tremendous value. Harvests are later and yields are low. Joel's son, Romain is becoming more and more involved in the winemaking. Their goal is to produce Gigondas expressive of terroir, tradition, length and balance-in short, the best of Gigondas.‛

s1015-106. 16 PLAN DE DIEU COTES DU RHONE VILLAGES VIEILLES VIGNES, DOMAINE SAINT DAMIEN

s1015-107. 17 GIGONDAS VIEILLES VIGNES, DOMAINE SAINT DAMIEN
Parker 92-94: ‛The 2017 Gigondas Classique Vieilles Vignes was scheduled to be bottled the week after my visit, so I tasted the final assemblage, which is 75% to 80% grenache and the rest mourvedre. Scents of crushed stone, pepper and licorice lead the way, followed by intense notes of black cherries and tree bark. It's full-bodied, silky and long, with hints of chocolate that creep in on the finish. It looks suppler than I remember it being last year, and it's for the better. Drink 2020-2030.‛ Unfined, Unfiltered.

s1015-108. 17 GIGONDAS LA LOUISIANE, DOMAINE SAINT DAMIEN
Parker 95+: ‛The 2017 Gigondas La Louisiane looks every bit as good as expected. Licorice, dark cherries and plums feature on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is silky and rich, just a wonderful balance of power and elegance. It should drink well soon after release and for at least decade thereafter. Drink 2020-2030.‛ From a single parcel of grenache planted in 1942, mourvedre planted in 1977 and cinsault planted in 1951.

s1015-109. 15 GIGONDAS LES SOUTEYRADES, DOMAINE SAINT DAMIEN
Parker 95: ‛The 2017 Gigondas les Souteyrades-- from a clay-based, north-facing site-- is rich and earthy, with cinnamon and cola notes accenting dark plums and black cherries. It's full-bodied and velvety, adding hints of chocolate on the long finish. Drink 2020-2030.‛ From the lieu-dit Souteyrades on a small hill of pure gray clay soil with few stones, the 80% grenache was planted in 1948 and the 20% mourvedre was planted in 1977.

INTRODUCTION TO
ROCCA DI CASTAGNOLI
Located in the Gaiole district, with vast extensions of vineyard land into the Castellina district of the Chianti Classico, Rocca di Castagnoli may be Classico‛s largest estate in acreage planted to vine. This does not hinder the thriving estate from produce some of the most distinguished examples of Chianti Classico. By bottling only the very best from their production, results of great typical character have been achieved. Also contributing to this character is the soil Galestro,, a compacted form of clay which captures high amounts of minerals. This estate represents the rare quest for classical, acidity driven, but ripe Chianti Classico from higher altitude vineyards. Owned by the Cali family, this estate has shown great integrity by aiming at a vineyard distinction on each label, to document the variety of soils and microclimates that make the Chianti Classico so famous. Today Rocca di Castagnoli is the only estate developing new head pruned sangiovese vineyards in the Classico region.

Vinous 95: ‛The 2014 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Stielle is a positively stellar wine. Deep, powerful and explosive, but with tons of balance, the Stielle is simply magnificent in 2014. Black cherry, lavender, mint, tobacco and licorice add to a sense of gravitas in this super-concentrated, dense wine. Drink 2022-2039. $57.‛

s1015-116. 13 TOSCANA CABERNET SAUVIGNON BURIANO, ROCCA DI CASTAGNOLI
Vinous 94+: ‛The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Buriano is powerful and unctuous in the glass. Inky and super-concentrated, the Buriano nevertheless retains tons of structure. Blueberry, vanillin, smoke, new leather and espresso infuse this deep, plush Tuscan Cabernet. Even with all of its intensity, the 2013 remains nuanced and full of class. What a gorgeous wine it is. INTRODUCTION TO
ANDRE CLOUET
Jean-Francois Clouet, who was born and raised in Bouzy, still lives in the 18th century village house built by his ancestors. As his family was the official printer to Louis XV's Royal Court at Versailles, Jean-Francois takes great pride in his lineage. He is also well aware of the influence his family has contributed to the grand and tumultuous history of the region. Acknowledging the privilege and significance of his standing, Jean-Francois strives to continually improve upon the estate and wines by drawing from its past as well as implementing changes that ultimately improve the quality of his wines. The domaine‛s 8ha (20 acres) of Grand Cru vineyards are situated in the coveted middle slopes of Ambonnay and Bouzy. They make a full range of Champagnes, including most famously the glorious Cuvee 1911, which is comprised of 100% Pinot Noir from Clouet's ten best lieux-dits in Bouzy. The production of each successive release is limited to 1911 bottles.

s1015-123. ANDRE CLOUET BOUZY GRAND CRU UN JOUR DE 1911 BRUT CHAMPAGNE
Parker 94: 'The NV Grand Cru Cuvee 1911 emerges from the glass with the most haunting of perfumes. Sweet rose petal and jasmine are some of the nuances that emerge over time. Despite recent disgorgement, the purity of the fruit and the extraordinary elegance of the mousse are hard to miss. This is an exceptional, elegant version of the 1911 that should drink beautifully for years to come. The bottle I tasted needed quite a bit of air to open up, so readers should be patient with the wine at this stage. $100.' My notes: 100% Grand Cru estate Bouzy Pinot Noir cuvee of 1995 (25%), 1996 (50%), and 1997 (25%) vintages; hand-riddled; disgorged 9/5/16; 1911 bottles of this Champagne produced. Enjoyed 12/31/16, our bottle convincingly belied its age, showing great freshness, balance, very fine and persistent mousse. A great treasure! 98/100. Both Parker‛s and my notes refer to previous renditions of the 1911 cuvee. The current cuvee consists of 50% the great 2002 vintage (best between 1996 and 2008) and 25% each 1997 and 1995. It was disgorged June 26, 2019. Straw-wrapped presentation with booklet.
