INTRODUCTION
SEEING RED
One of our favorite suppliers, AHD-Vintners, is having a spring housecleaning of overstocked wines, most ready for current enjoyment. We‛re starting this sale feature in the midst of 2020's first hot spell, and the majority of the wines are red. Well then, get out the grill and throw on appropriate accompaniments. Serve the wines at cellar temperature, and who cares how hot it gets?!

INTRODUCTION
SEEING RED
Note: Most of the red wines herein (and a couple of the whites) are between four and ten years old. I took many of the notes below when the wines were much younger. I put a plus (+) after my score when I believe the wine will improve. So if you want an accurate present rating, remove the plus and elevate the score a notch. I wish I could re-visit many of these wines while the sale is in progress, but, unfortunately our weekly panel tastings are still on hold due to the crisis.

s0525-103. 15 CALDER MENDOCINO CARIGNAN
Beautifully sweet old vine carignan. Good job. Varietal emphasis, the cherry stuff. Dynamic, grand, huge. Intense, old vines carignan on steroids. With good oak augmentataion, well integrated. Adds complexity. Couldn't ask for more.// Yeah, that cherry and spice set. Carignan intense. Definition of the varietal with CA magnification. Very sweet and beautiful. Frankly California. An elaboration of carignan. A celebration of carignan. Very successful. 95/100. List price: $25.
How Many: 19.99 each

s0525-104. 12 PRAXIS CENTRAL COAST LAGREIN
Very deep, dark color. No browning./ Not a lot of aromatic push. Still a youth?/ Very dense on the palate. Plenty of texture and richness. Good acidity of lagrein. Larger than life lagrein in a New World setting. Needs more bottle age for aroma and flavor development. 90+/100. List price: $19.
How Many: 9.99 each

s0525-105. 14 CHATEAU LA TOUR DE BY, CRU BOURGEOIS, MEDOC
Wine Enthusiast 92/100. My notes: . 65% cab sauv, 30% merlot, 5% petit verdot. Just screams cab sauv black currant and gravelly distinction. Usually does. I'm likin' it as much as the 2012. Lots of give, bright black currant character./ Much closer on the palate. Considerable tannin. Very nice acidity. I'm really keen on the nose, and I'm sure the rest will catch up. Cellar potential for sure. Even 6 months ago, the 2012 still had a long way to go. Likin' this! 92+/100. List price: $30.
How Many: 22.99 each

s0525-106. 15 CHATEAU TOUR ST. BONNET, CRU BOURGEOIS, MEDOC
45% each cabernet sauvignon, merlot; 5% each petit verdot, malbec. Coy, teasing nose. Flairs of black currant and black cherry as usual here. Beguiling potential./ Some wood seems to enter the picture on the palate. Echos of black fruit. Will enjoy following this. 91+/100. List price: $22.
How Many: 17.99 each

s0525-107. 14 LE HAUT MEDOC DE CHATEAU D'ISSAN, HAUT MEDOC
60% cab sauv, 40% merlot. From a vineyard in Arsac. Part of Arsac is in the Margaux appellation; not this part apparently. The third wine of Margaux 3me Grand Cru, Chateau d‛Issan. Sweet black fruit, especially lush smelling for 2014. Signs of barrel complexity, mellowing./ Full fruit, assuaged and complicated by barrel time. Nice degree of Margaux perfumed elegance. Great acidity, melted tannins. Altogether a sophisticated finale. To put to use now, with cellar potential to boot. Kudos. 93/100. List price: $29.
How Many: 21.99 each

s0525-108. 16 CHATEAU PIMORIN, HAUT MEDOC

Balanced and even tempered./ Fine tannin and acid for texture. Nice and spicy, though no new oak evident. Tres claret, tres 2016. 91+/100.
How Many: 14.99 each
