INTRODUCTION
2016 BORDEAUX NEAR FUTURES
'Let's cut to the chase: 2016 is a fantastic, sublime and at times entrancing vintage. For once, the frothing hype that presaged en primeur was justified. The 2016 vintage already feels haloed. The promise that was so palpable in barrel remains, and many of these wines are destined to give immense pleasure, not only at the top of the hierarchy but on the lower rungs too - always the litmus test of a truly great growing season. Certainly, the growing season in 2016 permitted winemakers to create exactly the kind of wines they wanted, and these wines are benchmarks for years to come.' - Neil Martin

INTRODUCTION
2016 BORDEAUX NEAR FUTURES
'The bottled 2016s capture every bit of the potential I sensed when I started tasting the wines from barrel, prior to en primeur, in January 2017. I found many 2016s to be even better from bottle than they were during the spring futures campaign. The best 2016s are powerful, richly layered, vibrant and stunningly beautiful, not to mention incredibly delicious and alluring. For so many wines and estates, 2016 is an epic vintage. In my experience, all great vintages share one thing in common. And that is the wines are positively electric and energizing. I am never tired at the end of a day of tasting a great vintage. Actually, it is quite the opposite. I have a hard time going to sleep at the end of even the longest days because the wines are exhilarating, emotional and incredibly delicious to taste. I felt that way in the spring of 2017, when I tasted these 2016s en primeur, and I felt exactly the same way when I tasted the bottled wines in December 2018. Many wines were even better from bottle than they were from barrel. While the reputation of a vintage is often created by a relatively small number of wines, 2016 offers tremendous quality in many appellations from the most humble to the most prestigious.' - Antonio Galloni

INTRODUCTION
2016 BORDEAUX NEAR FUTURES
Most of the tasting notes below come from Robert Parker''s Wine Advocate and Antonio Galloni's Vinous Media Begun in the 1970s, Parker's is easily the better known among wine consumers. Galloni, who used to write for Wine Advocate, began his Vinous Media barely a decade ago. A few years later, it merged with another leading wine letter, Steve Tanzer's International Wine Cellar. Bordeaux specialist Neil Martin, who used to write for Wine Advocate has become a Vinous Media contributor. Some of his tasting notes appear under each publication's title. If not as well known yet with wine lovers, Vinous Media is very well respected in the wine trade.

INTRODUCTION
2016 BORDEAUX NEAR FUTURES
There are several advantages to purchasing Bordeaux 'near futures' versus 'futures'. FIRST, you're investing just months ahead of received the wines, instead of years. SECOND, the overall vision of the vintage in respect to both style and quality is much clearer years after the harvest rather than months. THIRD, most of the notes below refer to assembled, bottled wines. These will give you a clearer image of what you're going to experience than those jotted down a few months into 2017. This is especially important in reference to the 2016 clarets, already famed for the wines' Chateau specificity.

s0212-105. 16 CHATEAU POTENSAC, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Vinous 92: 'The 2016 Potensac is a huge overachiever. Succulent black cherry, plum, spice, leather, licorice and lavender flesh out in this striking, deeply flavored Medoc. Inky, racy and super-expressive, the 2016 is a wine of pure and total seduction. Jean-Hubert Delon's entire portfolio is impressive in 2016, but the wines from Potensac are especially of note. Tasted two times. Drink 2021-2035.'
How Many: 189.50 each

s0212-106. 16 CHATEAU BEAUMONT, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Vinous 91: 'The 2016 Beaumont has quite a powerful bouquet with dense black fruit, boysenberry and cedar, traces of pencil lead developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite spicy compared to its peers, then it reins everything back in for what is a refined finish. Classy stuff, but I would afford this a couple of years in bottle. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London. Drink 2021-2035.'
How Many: 109.50 each

s0212-107. 16 CHATEAU BELGRAVE, 5ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 90-92: 'The 2016 Belgrave is a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot and was picked from 28 September until 20 October. It has a generous bouquet with small dark cherries, blueberry and crushed violet aromas, quite Margaux-like in style. There is certainly good intensity here. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple opening: blackberry, mint and cedar. From the start there is fine tension and there is very impressive structure towards the finish, plus a long saline aftertaste. This is a very strong follow-up to the 2015 Belgrave and indeed, it may surpass it. Drink 2021-2042.'
How Many: 259.50 each

s0212-108. 16 CHATEAU CAMBON LA PELOUSE, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Vinous 91: 'The 2016 Cambon La Pelouse has a classic, nicely detailed bouquet with blackberry, briary, autumn leaves and cedar aromas that gently unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very harmonious and cohesive with supremely well judged acidity that lends the finish a silky smooth, gently grippy finish that bodes well for the future. Excellent. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London. Drink 2020-2030.'
How Many: 114.50 each

s0212-109. 16 CHATEAU CANTEMERLE, 5ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 92: 'The 2016 Cantemerle has developed beautifully with elevage. Pliant, silky and exceptionally balanced, the 2016 has the pedigree and complexity to allow for a number of years of very fine drinking. Moreover, the 2016 delivers serious flavor intensity without being at all heavy. Smoke, iron and cedar add character to a Haut-Medoc that has a lot to offer. Drink now-2036.'
How Many: 224.50 each

s0212-110. 16 CHATEAU CITRAN, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Vinous 89: 'The 2016 Citran has a classic tobacco-scented bouquet that is quite austere at first but opens up with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, not complex but offering fine salinity toward the finish, which just needs a little more mineralite and detail. Drink 2021-2035.'
How Many: 119.50 each

s0212-111. 16 CHATEAU LANESSAN, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Parker 90: 'Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Lanessan offers cassis and plums on the nose with a core of cedar, earth and herbs. Medium-bodied, the palate is firm, grainy and lively with good expression. Drink 2019-2030.'
How Many: 109.50 each

s0212-112. 16 CHATEAU PEYRABON, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Vinous 91: 'The 2016 Peyrabon has a finely detailed bouquet with blackberry, raspberry, pressed flower and mineral aromas. This exudes class. The palate is well balanced with fine grain tannin, one of the more saline Cru Bourgeois with touches of oyster shell and spice towards the poised, edgy finish. Very fine. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London. Drink 2020-2034.'
How Many: 94.50 each

s0212-113. 16 CHATEAU SOCIANDO MALLET, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Parker 92-94: 'The 2016 Sociando-Mallet has a refulgent purple/black color. It has a very intense and rich, you might say 'ambitious' bouquet with layers of small black cherries, blueberry and a touch of sloes, less tertiary than previous vintages and certainly more opulent. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy ripe tannin that almost disguise the firm structure underneath. I admire the completeness of this Sociando-Mallet, the neatly embroidered new oak and the freshness on the finish. The 2015 Sociando-Mallet did not fire on all cylinders last year, but this 2016 is totally convincing. It comes highly recommended as one of the best wines produced at this estate in the northern Medoc. This is an outstanding wine from Mon. Gartreau. Drink 2022-2045.'
How Many: 264.50 each

s0212-114. 16 CHATEAU DE VILLEGEORGE, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Parker 91-93: 'The 2016 Chateau de Villegeorge, the Haut-Medoc owned by Marie-Laure Lurton, has an attractive blackberry and cranberry scented bouquet, classic in style with cigar box/smoke aromas emerging with time from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, good depth of fruit, almost old-fashioned in style, but I mean that in a positive sense. There is a sense of honesty about this Haut Medoc that I appreciate, and the length is superb, ditto the freshness. Like classic Bordeaux' This is where to come. Maybe this is a modern-day version of the brilliant 1961 Villegorge'
How Many: 102.50 each

s0212-115. 16 CHATEAU CALON SEGUR, 3ME GRAND CRU six bottles
Parker 96; Vinous 97: 'The 2016 Calon Segur is dense and radiant on the palate, just as it was from barrel. Even with all of its intensity, the 2016 is distinguished by its sense of freshness, lift and nuance, much of which comes from the 18% Cabernet Franc in the blend. Sweet floral, spice and minty notes add aromatic intensity to a core of sweet red cherry and plum fruit. There is plenty of underlying structure, but the tannins are sweet, silky and perfectly ripe. In short, the 2016 Calon Segur is a wine of pure and total sensuality. Technical Director Vincent Millet and his team did a tremendous job with the 2016. Tasted three times. Drink 2024-2066.'
How Many: 829.50 each

s0212-116. 16 CHATEAU CAPBERN, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Parker 92; Vinous 92: 'The 2016 Capbern from the Calon-Segur team, matured in 50-60% new oak, has a wonderful bouquet of blackberry, pencil lead and light floral aromas that leap out of the glass. The beautifully balanced palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, leading to a supple, smooth but complex graphite finish. This is a superb Capbern, easily the best ever made. Drink 2021-2040.'
How Many: 174.50 each

s0212-117. 16 CHATEAU COS D'ESTOURNEL, 2MD GRAND CRU six bottles
Parker 100: 'The 2016 Cos d'Estournel is blended of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc aged in 65% new and 35% two-year-old French oak for 15 months. Bottled in July 2018, it is deep garnet-purple colored and starts off a little closed and reticent, opening out slowly and seductively to reveal beautiful lilacs, rose hip tea, crushed stones and camphor nuances over a core of creme de cassis, kirsch, wild blueberries and mocha plus wafts of incense and wood smoke. The palate is simply electric, charged with an energy and depth of flavors that seem to defy the elegance and ethereal nature of its medium-bodied weight, featuring super ripe, densely pixelated tannins that firmly frame the myriad of fruit and floral sparks, finishing with epic length. Just. Magic. Drink 2024-2068.'
How Many: 1449.50 each

s0212-118. 16 CHATEAU LAFON ROCHET, 4ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 95: 'A sleeper in this vintage, the 2016 Lafon-Rochet is positively stellar. Bright, translucent and super-expressive, the 2016 has so much to offer. Lavender, tobacco, cedar, mint and dried herbs give the 2016 striking aromatic top notes to play off the darker fruit flavors. The 2016 is pure class. Don't miss it. Drink 2024-2041.'
How Many: 329.50 each

s0212-119. 16 CHATEAU MEYNEY, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Vinous 93: 'The 2016 Meyney is a bold, powerful wine. Tobacco, menthol, chocolate, spice and torrefaction notes all add shades of darkness. Meyney is potent and quite broad in feel, and yet everything is very nicely balanced. Although not especially subtle, Meyney delivers the goods, and then some. Drink 2022-2036.'
How Many: 239.50 each

s0212-120. 16 CHATEAU PHELAN SEGUR, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Vinous 94: 'Another sleeper from Saint-Estephe, the 2016 Phelan Segur is super impressive. An enticing bouquet laced with crushed rocks, graphite, iron, smoke, lavender, mint and inky blue/purplish fruit makes a strong opening statement. A wine of power, resonance and gravitas, the 2016 Phelan is remarkably expressive and also full of potential. Tasted two times. Drink 2024-2041.'
How Many: 329.50 each

s0212-121. 16 CHATEAU SEGUR DE CABANAC, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Parker 88: 'Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Segur de Cabanac gives up cassis, blackberries and black cherries on the nose with wafts of chocolate box and roses. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant and fragrant with a chewy texture and an herbal lift. Drink 2019-2028.'
How Many: 152.50 each

s0212-122. 16 CHATEAU D'ARMAILHAC, 5ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 93; Vinous 93: 'The 2016 d'Armailhac, which was bottled in May 2018, has an elegant bouquet that unfolds in the glass, offering blackberries, briar and a touch of cedar and mint. The palate is medium-bodied with dense tannin, grippy in the mouth, and quite voluminous, with perhaps more density on the solid, almost broad-shouldered finish compared to the Clerc-Milon. This fulfills all my expectations from my barrel tasting and is quite simply one of the best d'Armailhac wines ever made. Drink 2022-2040.'
How Many: 419.50 each

s0212-123. 16 CHATEAU LACOSTE BORIE, PAUILLAC six bottles
Parker 88-90: 'The 2016 Lacoste-Borie is a blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, cropped at 50 hectoliters per hectare. It has a clean and precise bouquet, not as complex as some of its peers, yet with thoroughly enjoyable raspberry and blackcurrant leaf tinged with cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy, slightly dry tannin on the entry, hints of dark chocolate interlacing the black fruit with a touch of cracked black pepper on the finish. Drink 2020-2035.'
How Many: 199.50 each

s0212-124. 16 CHATEAU LYNCH BAGES, 5ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 97+; Vinous 97: 'The 2016 Lynch-Bages delivers on its promise from barrel with an intense blackberry, cedar and mineral-driven bouquet that actually reminds me of Lafite-Rothschild. A faint dark chocolate scent makes a brief appearance. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, pure black fruit and a velvety texture. There is wonderful structure and focus on the finish, followed by a persistent saline aftertaste. This is an outstanding Lynch-Bages, easily the best since the twin titans of 1989 and 1990. Drink 2023-2060.'
How Many: 999.50 each

s0212-125. 16 CHATEAU LYNCH MOUSSAS, 5ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 92-94; Vinous 92+: 'The 2016 Lynch-Moussas has a clean, pure bouquet of slightly meaty black fruit, quite harmonious if not as complex as the Batailley. The palate is well balanced, with mint-infused black fruit, tobacco and sage. I like the density of this Pauillac, which is focused and elegant yet classic on the finish. I suspect it will improve in bottle. Drink 2022-2045.'
How Many: 299.50 each

s0212-126. 16 CHATEAU PEDESCLAUX, 5ME GRAND CRU six bottles
Vinous 94: 'The 2016 Pedesclaux is the first vintage to include all four grape varieties planted in the vineyard, according to Emmanuel Cruse. It has a very focused, concentrated bouquet of blackberry, graphite, hints of tobacco and a slight granitic scent - tres Pauillac. The palate is medium-bodied with silky tannin, impressive depth, gentle grip and a killer line of acidity. I adore the harmony and precision of this Pedesclaux, which is probably the best to date. Highly recommended. Drink 2024-2045.'
How Many: 339.50 each

s0212-127. 16 CHATEAU PICHON LALANDE, 2ME GRAND CRU six bottles
Vinous 100: 'The 2016 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is every bit as regal as it has always been. Towering and spectacularly rich in the glass, the 2016 captures every ounce of potential is showed from barrel. The 2016 is a vivid, dramatically sweeping wine that will leave readers week at the knees. Beams of tannin give the 2016 soaring intensity that is matched by a host of aromas and flavors that open up in the glass. Blackberry jam, graphite, spice, menthol, licorice, pencil shavings and spice are all finely sketched in a bold, savory Pauillac that hits all the right notes. The 2016 Pichon Comtesse has been riveting on each of the four occasions I have tasted it from barrel thus far, making it easily one of the wines of the vintage. Nicolas Glumineu and his team turned out an epic Pichon Comtesse in 2016. Don't miss it! Drink 2026-2066.'
How Many: 1549.50 each

s0212-128. 16 RESERVE DE LA COMTESSE DE CHATEAU PICHON LALAND six bottles
Vinous 94: 'Sensual, racy and inviting, the Reserve de la Comtesse is one of the very finest wines readers will find in its peer group. Sweet dark plum, rose petal, spice and chocolate notes build into the silky, beautifully resonant finish. The 2016 has so much to offer. Moreover, it is flat-out delicious. Don't miss it! Drink 2021-2036.'
How Many: 299.50 each

s0212-129. 16 CHATEAU PONTET CANET, 5ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 98; Vinous 99: 'The 2016 Pontet-Canet is absolutely breathtaking. Powerful, ample and racy in the glass, the 2016 is one of the most exquisitely well-balanced young Pontet-Canets I can remember tasting. Savory, high-toned aromatics and brisk mineral notes lend energy and delineation as this vivid wonderfully alive wine opens up in the glass. The flavors are dark and incisive, but it is the wine's total sense of harmony that is most compelling. All of the elements are simply in the right place. The 2016 is tremendous. It's as simple as that. As is often the case, Pontet-Canet is one of the most singular wines in Bordeaux. Alfred Tesseron could have chosen to play things safe when he took over the management of the estate in the mid-1990s. Instead, he chose a very different path. No proprietor in Bordeaux has taken more risks over the last two decades than Alfred Tesseron. A commitment to biodynamic farming, sustainability across the entire estate more broadly, and the adoption of new concepts for Bordeaux, such as aging a portion of the wine in terra cotta, set Pontet-Canet apart from other properties in Pauillac and the Left Bank. Not surprisingly, the wine is also starkly different from the wines of neighboring estates. Drink 2026-2066.'
How Many: 1049.50 each

s0212-130. 16 CHATEAU BEYCHEVELLE, 4ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 95+; Vinous 96: 'The 2016 Beychevelle has a stunning bouquet of vibrant, shimmering blackberry and wild strawberry fruit laced with crushed stone and rose petals. The well-balanced palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a slightly savory/dried blood finish that lingers in the mouth. Tasting both in London and in Bordeaux, I found the latter bottle to have a little more precision and race on the finish. This will surely be a benchmark for this Saint Julien estate. Drink 2023-2055.'
How Many: 779.50 each

s0212-131. 16 CHATEAU BRANAIRE DUCRU, 4ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 93+: 'The 2016 Branaire Ducru has a fragrant bouquet of plush blackberry and graphite aromas, hints of bilberry and briar developing in the glass. The medium-bodied palate is quite succulent and multilayered, offering supple tannin and gentle grip on the finish. Real potential here. One of the best Branaire Ducru in recent years. Chapeau! Drink 2023-2055.'
How Many: 399.50 each

s0212-132. 16 CHATEAU GLORIA, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Vinous 96: 'The 2016 Gloria is one of the undisputed stars of this vintage. Rich, deep and explosive, the 2016 possesses tremendous intensity in all of its dimensions. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, menthol, licorice and dried rose petal all add complexity. In 2016 Gloria is a real head-turner. It should be a fabulous value as well. There is not much else to say. Drink 2026-2046.'
How Many: 319.50 each

s0212-133. 16 CHATEAU LAGRANGE, 3ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 95; Vinous 95: 'The 2016 Lagrange has a tightly knit, focused bouquet of intense blackberry, briar and cedar aromas. This is impressive, and it gains intensity with aeration. The medium-bodied palate delivers grainy tannin, a fine bead of acidity and a vivacious, spicy, almost peppery finish. One of the most powerful Lagrange that I have tasted. A Saint-Julien that is consistently underrated, this 2016 will give a great deal of pleasure over the next 30-plus years. Drink 2023-2056.'
How Many: 369.50 each

s9212-134. 16 CHATEAU LANGOA BARTON, 3ME GRAND CRU six bottles
Wine Spectator 95: 'Sappy and dense, with kirsch, plum reduction, mulled a├žai berry and warmed fig fruit showing impressive range, while licorice snap, ganache and roasted apple wood notes jostle behind them. Mouthwatering acidity should give this plenty of time to round into form. Best from 2025 through 2040. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.'
How Many: 399.50 each

s0212-135. 16 CHATEAU LEOVILLE BARTON, 2ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 95+; Vinous 95: 'The 2016 Leoville Barton has a beautiful bouquet of blackberry, gravel and hints of black truffle and pencil shavings, blossoming with aeration yet remaining classic in style. The palate is medium-bodied with gorgeous ripe tannins that exert gentle grip. Lightly spiced and wonderfully focused, leaving the tongue tingling with glee long after the wine has departed. This is one of the finest wines from the estate in recent years. Drink 2022-2040.'
How Many: 699.50 each

s0212-136. 16 CHATEAU LEOVILLE POYFERRE, 2ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 96; Parker 97+: 'Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Leoville Poyferre hits the ground running with intense cassis, violets, dark chocolate, menthol and fragrant earth notions complemented by nuances of cigar box and smoked meats. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is charged with energetic, super intense black fruit and floral layers, beautifully supported with super firm, ripe, grainy tannins and seamless freshness. This liquid is simply alive in the mouth, culminating in an epically long finish that will leave your mouth practically tingling. WOW! Drink 2021-2050.'
How Many: 749.50 each

s0212-137. 16 CHATEAU SAINT PIERRE, 4ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 94+; Vinous 94: 'The 2016 Saint-Pierre has plenty of fruit intensity on the nose but maintains a sense of control and class. Blackberry, briar, cedar and light pencil shaving aromas develop in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, good depth and more substance and vigor than the Gloria. The saline, structured finish exerts impressive grip. A fantastic Saint-Julien. Drink 2022-2048.'
How Many: 479.50 each

s0212-138. 16 CHATEAU BRANAS GRAND POUJEAUX, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Vinous 92: 'The 2016 Branas Grand Poujeaux is always one of the classiest offerings from Moulis and this is no different: very delineated and complex on the nose with black fruit, tobacco, wild heather and cedar scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, a superb line of acidity and seamlessly integrated new oak towards the finish. Sophisticated and captivating. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London. Drink 2020-2036.'
How Many: 209.50 each

s0212-139. 16 CHATEAU CHASSE SPLEEN, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Vinous 93: 'The 2016 Chasse-Spleen has a wonderful, detailed, mineral-driven bouquet that feels like a coiled spring at the moment. The harmonious palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, impressive depth and a pure but grippy, convincing finish. One of the best Chasse-Spleen in recent years. Bravo! This might represent one of the best quality-to-price ratios on the Left Bank. Drink 2022-2045.'
How Many: 229.50 each

s0212-140. 16 CHATEAU FOURCAS HOSTEN, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Wine Enthusiast 91-93: 'This wine has a ripe core, rich in black fruit tones and firm tannins. It is a structured wine, but at the same time it has supporting black-fruit flavors at the center. It should age well, and will probably be ready to drink after 2025.'
How Many: 124.50 each

s0212-141. 16 CHATEAU CANTENAC BROWN, 3ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 93: 'The 2016 Cantenac Brown has an intense bouquet of blackberry and boysenberry fruit, pencil lead and sous-bois. There is gutsiness to these aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin and a rounded texture. A little heavier than the Brane-Cantenac, displaying fine structure and persistency on the finish. Do not ignore this. Drink 2028-2050.'
How Many: 394.50 each

s0212-142. 16 CHATEAU D'ISSAN, 3ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 94+: 'The 2016 D'Issan is blended of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot, aged in 50% new and 50% one-year-old French oak for 18 months. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it has vibrant black cherries and blackcurrants notes with chocolate mint, beef drippings, black olives and cigar box. Medium-bodied with a well-sustained, intensely flavored mid-palate, it has a rock-solid, grainy frame and long savory finish. Drink 2019-2037.'
How Many: 499.50 each

s0212-143. 16 CHATEAU DURFORT VIVENS, 2ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 93: 'The 2016 Durfort-Vivens is gorgeous. Cabernet Sauvignon aromatics and structure play off the natural intensity of the year beautifully. Blackberry, grilled herbs, licorice, leather and creme de cassis are all vividly sketched in this layered, expressive Margaux. Readers should expect a dark, exotic Margaux that stands a bit apart from the norm for the appellation. Drink 2024-2041.'
How Many: 399.50 each

s0212-144. 16 CHATEAU FERRIERE, 3ME GRAND CRU CLASSES six bottles
Vinous 93+: 'The 2016 Ferriere is a dense, full-bodied wine that is going to need at least a few years in bottle to shed some of its tannins. Old vines imbue the 2016 with a palpable sense of power and resonance that comes through in the wine's dark, somber personality. The tannins are equally imposing though, so patience is essential. Blackberry, smoke and gravel are some of the notes that build as the 2016 starts to open in the glass. Drink 2024-2041.'
How Many: 349.50 each

s0212-145. 16 CHATEAU GISCOURS, 3ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 94: 'The 2016 Giscours comes off the back of the superlative 2015, not an easy wine to follow. It clearly boasts more horsepower on the nose compared the de Tertre, presenting layers of blackberry, cedar and crushed violet aromas that leap from the glass. The medium-bodied palate is crisp and focused, with grainy tannin and a pencil-box-infused finish. Winemaker Alexandre van Beek has retained the density this Margaux showed out of barrel, to offer a classy wine that will benefit from several years in bottle. Drink 2023-2050.'
How Many: 469.50 each

s0212-146. 16 CHATEAU PRIEURE LICHINE, 4ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 96: 'The 2016 Prieure-Lichine is all class. Floral, silky and nuanced to the core, the 2016 is a wine of pure and total seduction. Freshly cut flowers, vibrant red fruit and creamy tannins all add to the wine's undeniable allure. In 2016, Prieure-Lichine is all class, not to mention one of the sleepers of the vintage. Don't miss it! Tasted two times. Drink 2022-2041.'
How Many: 294.50 each

s0212-147. 16 CHATEAU RAUZAN SEGLA, 2ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 97+; Vinous 97: 'The 2016 Rauzan-Segla has an intense bouquet, one of the most perfumed that I encountered during my round of tastings. Violets infuse the ebullient black fruit, and traces of pencil lead emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied, very pure and supple, displaying wonderful balance and a satiny texture that belongs in a lingerie shop. This is an utterly seductive Margaux, one of the finest in recent years as this estate continues its upsurge in quality. Few 2016s will dole out such inhibited pleasure. Drink 2022-2056.
How Many: 749.50 each

s0212-148. 16 CHATEAU TOUR DE BESSAN, CRU BOURGEOIS six bottles
Parker 89-91: 'The 2016 Tour de Bessan, owned by Marie-Laure Lurton, is tightly wound on the nose and despite coaxing, stubbornly refused to come out of its shell. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, although I found the oak a tad intrusive towards the finish, at least at this early stage. I am sure it will meld together by the time this Margaux is bottled. Drink 2020-2035.'
How Many: 159.50 each

s0212-149. 16 CHATEAU CARBONNIEUX, GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 93: 'The 2016 Carbonnieux has a refined bouquet of brambly black fruit, cedar and subtle bay leaf aromas that gently unfolds in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin and a crisp line of acidity. Saline and spicy toward the second half, with a feisty but focused finish that lingers in the mouth. Great potential here. A Pessac-Leognan that deserves a higher profile, especially given quality like this. Drink 2022-2040.'
How Many: 259.50 each

s0212-150. 16 DOMAINE DE CHEVALIER, GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 95: 'The 2016 Domaine de Chevalier is a classy affair on the nose: nothing ambitious or self-aggrandizing, just beautifully defined black fruit laced with pine needles and wilted irises. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, filigreed tannin, pitch-perfect acidity and a captivating sense of mineralite toward the persistent finish. This is an outstanding Domaine de Chevalier, possessing a surfeit of pedigree and breeding. Drink 2022-2055.'
How Many: 499.50 each

s0212-151. 16 CHATEAU HAUT BAILLY, GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 98; Vinous 97: 'The 2016 Haut-Bailly was mightily impressive when tasted from barrel. Now, matured in 50% new oak and bottled at the end of April 2018 (they prefer to bottle before spring here), it has a very well defined bouquet of black fruit, graphite, crushed stone and light rose petal aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with quite grippy tannin. This Haut-Bailly feels pure and classic in style, offering well-judged acidity and a sophisticated, quite tensile finish that lingers long in the mouth. I suspect this might close down in a year or two and deserves perhaps 8 to 10 years in bottle to show what it can really do. The best Haut-Bailly in the modern era' For certain. Drink 2026-2050.'
How Many: 899.50 each

s0212-152. 16 CHATEAU HAUT BERGEY six bottles
Vinous 88-91: 'The 2016 Haut-Bergey offers notable thrust and energy in its dark fruit, grilled herb, tobacco and woodsmoke flavors. Powerful and driven in style, if a bit linear, the 2016 has good persistence and plenty of personality. Drink 2021-2031.'
How Many: 159.50 each

s0212-153. 16 LAGRAVE DE CHATEAU LATOUR MARTILLAC six bottles
Vinous 89: 'The 2016 Lagrave-Martillac has a crisp red currant, cranberry and raspberry bouquet laced with cedar and pencil box aromas but a little straitlaced at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, masculine and quite saline. The finish shows surprising density for a second label, suggesting that it will benefit from a couple of years in bottle. Drink 2021-2030.'
How Many: 129.50 each

s0212-154. 16 CHATEAU MALARTIC LAGRAVIERE, GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 95: 'The 2016 Malartic-Lagraviere has a wonderful bouquet of perfumed, mainly red fruit laced with potpourri, black olive tapenade and light brine-like aromas - a bouquet full of personality. The fresh, harmonious palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity and just the right amount of salinity toward the loam-tinged finish. Bon vin from the Bonnies. Drink 2023-2045.'
How Many: 399.50 each

s0212-155. 16 CHATEAU SMITH HAUT LAFITTE, GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 97; Parker 98: 'Composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot and matured in 60% new oak for 18 months, the 2016 Smith Haut Lafitte has a very deep garnet-purple color, opening with sensuous scents of warm black cherries, blackberry pie, star anise and fragrant lilacs with hints of chocolate box, cigar box and pencil lead plus wafts of truffles and crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, rich and seductive, it completely fills the palate with perfumed black berry preserves and superbly plush tannins, finishing epically long and beautifully layered. Drink 2023-2046.'
How Many: 799.50 each

s0212-156. 16 CHATEAU HAURA six bottles
Wine Enthusiast 91: 'Still very dry and closed up, this hand-picked wine holds promise in its weight. Dark tannins dominate, masking hints of black fruits and rich berries. The wine, produced by Denis Dubourdieu Domaines, needs time, so wait until 2022.'
How Many: 94.50 each

s0212-157. 16 CHATEAU BARDE HAUT, GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 96: 'Readers will find a rich, flamboyant wine in the 2016 Barde-Haut. There is not a ton of subtlety here, but I am not sure that matters all that much given how immensely pleasing the 2016 is. Crushed rocks, graphite, lavender, blackberry, plum, and violet infuse a Saint-Emilion that offers tremendous textural richness as well as vibrancy. Most importantly of all, the 2016 is flat-out delicious. This is a decidedly opulent, dark Saint-Emilion with all of the elements impeccably balanced. I loved it. Drink 2021-2036.'
How Many: 279.50 each

s0212-158. 16 CHATEAU BEAU SEJOUR BECOT, 1ER GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 95; Vinous 95: 'The 2016 Beausejour Becot has a sensual bouquet of pure red cherries and crushed strawberry laced with cedar and light graphite scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and well-judged acidity. The finish is harmonious and somehow just effortless. This actually reminds me of its neighbor, Chateau Canon. Could the 2016 represent the best Beausejour Becot ever made' Quite possibly. Drinnk 2022-2050.'
How Many: 499.50 each

s0212-159. 16 CHATEAU CANON, 1ER GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 97; Parker 98+: 'Composed of 74% Merlot and 26% Cabernet Franc and aged for 18 months in 70% new French barriques, the 2016 Canon is medium to deep garnet-purple in color, and-WOW-it opens with the most stunning perfume of violets, red roses and kirsch, giving way to a core of black cherry preserves, chocolate box, licorice, warm plums and Chinese five spice plus an earthy waft of underbrush. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is completely filled with expressive, perfumed black berry layers accented by lively red fruits and exotic spices, supported by impressively fine-grained tannins and fantastic tension, finishing very long with jaw-dropping energy. Tasted three times, I had one opportunity to taste the 2015 and 2016 Canon side by side. While I love the bold, rich, seductive nature of the 2015, this 2016 kicks it up a notch in terms of polish, precision, depth and persistence. Most notably, the superbly ripe, exquisitely fine-grained tannins on this 2016 bring to the table a whole other level of sophistication. Bravo! Drink 2022-2055.'
How Many: 1049.50 each

s0212-160. 16 CHATEAU CANON LA GAFFELIERE, 1ER GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 96: 'The 2016 Canon La Gaffeliere is just as striking from bottle as it was from barrel. Bright, intensely aromatic and precise, the 2016 has it all. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate, blood orange and rose petal all race through this silky, super-expressive Saint-Emilion. In 2016, Canon La Gaffeliere is especially polished, refined and nuanced, which means also less overly powerful than in the past. It was compelling both times I tasted it from bottle. Drink 2024-2036.'
How Many: 629.50 each

s0212-161. 16 CHATEAU FLEUR CARDINALE, GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 93: 'The 2016 Fleur Cardinale is a sumptuous wine. There is no shortage of richness or volume here, that much is obvious. Sweet tobacco, leather, espresso and cherry abound. The 2016 is exotic and flamboyant in style, and yet the new oak is overdone to the point that the early signs of oxidation are already present. I very much like the intensity here, but the reality is that the 2016 could have and should have been an even better wine. Drink 2021-2036.'
How Many: 319.50 each

s0212-162. 16 CHATEAU FONROQUE, GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 95: 'The 2016 Fonroque has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and opens with black cherries, kirsch, warm blueberries and spice box scents plus hints of tobacco and pencil lead. Medium-bodied, it has a chewy line and plenty of earth-inspired flavors, finishing just a tad grippy. Drink 2020-2035.'
How Many: 239.50 each

s0212-163. 16 CHATEAU GRAND MAYNE, GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 94; Vinous 94: 'The 2016 Grand Mayne has a sensual, pure bouquet of lush crushed strawberry fruit mixed with raspberry and rose petals. The oak is very well integrated here, just oozing class. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannin, a fine bead of acidity and a smooth, velvety finish that beckons you back for another sip. This is a triumph, one of the best that Jean-Antoine Nony has overseen. Drink 2022-2045.'
How Many: 295.50 each

s0212-164. 16 CHATEAU LA GAFFELIERE, 1ER GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 95; Vinous 96: 'The 2016 La Gaffeliere is superb. Vivid and precise, with layers of nuance, the 2016 is a wine of real clarity. Blood orange, lavender, rose petal and mint add brightness to this stunningly beautiful Saint-Emilion. La Gaffeliere is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, and it is the Franc that gives the wine so much character and complexity. This is just an irresistibly captivating Saint-Emilion. Stephane Derenoncourt and Simon Blanchard consult. Drink 2024-2051.'
How Many: 499.50 each

s0212-165. 16 CHATEAU LARCIS DUCASSE, 1ER GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 96; Vinous 97: 'The 2016 Larcis Ducasse is absolutely gorgeous. Fresh, vibrant and alluring, with tremendous vibrancy, the 2016 has so much to offer. Expressive savory and blood orange notes add brightness to the red cherry and plum fruit, with beams of firm yet well-integrated tannins that give the wine its shape and energy. In 2016, Larcis brings together undeniable raciness and power in a complete package that is irresistibly beautiful. Give it a few years in bottle for the tannins to soften. Drink 2024-2056.'
How Many: 549.50 each

s0212-166. 16 CHATEAU DE PRESSAC, GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 93+: 'One of the sleepers in Saint-Emilion, Pressac is once again striking in 2016. Big and vertical in feel, with tremendous fruit density, the 2016 has a lot to offer. Inky dark fruit, graphite, menthol, plum and lavender mesh together in this dark, potent wine. The 2016 is wonderfully fresh and also quite structured. Readers will have to be patient, as it will be a few years before all the wine starts to drink well. As always, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Carmenere play an important role in shaping the personality of one of Bordeaux's most unique and intriguing wines. The 2016 spent 18 months in oak, 50% new. Alain Raynaud consults. Tasted three times. Drink 2022-2041.'
How Many: 199.50 each

s0212-167. 16 CHATEAU TOUR ST. CRISTOPHE, GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 94: 'The 2016 Tour Saint-Christophe is made up of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. It was aged in 40% new, 40% one-year-old and 20% two-year-old oak for 18 months. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it sings of roses, chocolate-covered cherries, redcurrant jelly and cinnamon stick with touches of cigar box and forest floor. Big, full-bodied and richly fruited yet with great tension, it has a compellingly perfumed palate and gorgeous velvety texture with great persistence. Drink 2021-2044.'
How Many: 219.50 each

s0212-168. 16 CHATEAU TROPLONG MONDOT, 1ER GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 95+; Vinous 96: 'The 2016 Troplong Mondot is fabulous. Powerful, dense and explosive, the 2016 has a lot to say. Super-ripe dark cherry, raspberry jam, chocolate, spice and new oak give the wine much of its lush, exotic feel. The chateau has moved in a totally different stylistic direction since this wine was made, but there is no denying the 2016 is striking. Tasted two times. Drink 2024-2041.'
How Many: 999.50 each

s0212-169. 16 CHATEAU VILLEMAURINE, GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Vinous 93: 'The 2016 Villemaurine has a lifted, perfumed bouquet of red cherries, kirsch and rose petals; hints of orange zest emerge with time. The plush, fleshy palate is well balanced with good structure and light savory notes toward the second half, leading to a very cohesive finish. Excellent. Drink 2021-2040.'
How Many: 324.50 each

s0212-170. 16 CHATEAU BEL AIR CUVEE JEAN & GABRIEL six bottles
Vinous 90: 'The 2016 Bel-Air Jean & Gabriel is deep, rich and super-expressive. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, lavender, menthol and licorice all flesh out in this deep, succulent wine. The blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc works especially well here. Bel-Air Jean & Gabriel is a Lussac Saint- Emilion endowed with real substance and character. Drink now-2024.'
How Many: 114.50 each

s0212-171. 16 CHATEAU CLINET six bottles
Vinous 96+; Parker 97: 'The 2016 Clos du Clocher is medium to deep garnet-purple colored and very earthy on the nose with cigar box, forest floor, truffles and charcoal aromas with black cherries and baked red and black plums. Elegantly styled, the palate is medium-bodied with perfumed fruit, a fine-grained frame and a long refreshing finish. Drink 2022-2052.'
How Many: 769.50 each

s0212-172. 16 CHATEAU CLOS DU CLOCHER six bottles
Parker 94: 'The 2016 Clos du Clocher is medium to deep garnet-purple colored and very earthy on the nose with cigar box, forest floor, truffles and charcoal aromas with black cherries and baked red and black plums. Elegantly styled, the palate is medium-bodied with perfumed fruit, a fine-grained frame and a long refreshing finish. Drink 2021-2039.'
How Many: 399.50 each

s0212-173. 16 CHATEAU ROUGET six bottles
Vinous 94: 'The 2016 Rouget is a total turn on. A rush of red cherry/raspberry jam, sweet spice, chocolate and tobacco builds as this exotic Pomerol shows off its racy, opulent personality. The full throttle-style works beautifully. There is not a whole lot of subtlety, but the Rouget is undeniably delicious. I loved it. Tasted three times. Drink 2022-2036.'
How Many: 374.50 each

s0212-174. 16 VIEUX CHATEAU CERTAN six bottles
Parker 100; Vinous 100: 'The 2016 Vieux Chateau Certan is the first vintage to be entirely bottled by the estate's own bottling machine (just in case that ever comes up in a wine quiz). Alexandre Thienpont mentioned that he assiduously left out the stressed vines, and he places this above his more hedonistic 2015. The wine takes a few minutes to open in the glass, but boy, is it worth the wait: it reveals pixelated red fruit (crushed strawberry and raspberry) and crushed stone, plus a hint of graphite emanating from the Cabernets. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, slightly chalky tannin that frames pure black and red fruit infused with graphite and almost flint-like notes. This is one of the most mineral-driven VCCs that I have encountered in over 20 years, with dizzying precision on the finish. A very intellectual Pomerol, in the realm of the profound. Drink 2024-2060.'
How Many: 2249.50 each

s0212-175. 16 CHATEAU TROIS CROIX six bottles
Parker 92; Vinous 92: 'The 2016 Les Trois Croix is blessed with a superb bouquet of vivacious red cherry and raspberry fruit laced with rose petal and graphite scents. The fresh palate is medium-bodied and well balanced, offering grippy tannin and a fine bead of acidity. The dense, solid finish suggests that this will require three or four years in bottle. A testament to Patrick Leon, who passed away the night before I tasted this wine. Drink 2022-2038.'
How Many: 129.50 each

s0212-176. 16 CHATEAU VIEILLE CURE six bottles
Vinous 93: 'The 2016 La Vieille Cure is fabulous. Racy and voluptuous in the glass, the 2016 is seriously beautiful. Raspberry jam, white chocolate, spice, leather and rose petal notes infuse this super-expressive, plush Fronsac. La Vieille Cure is a wine of real character and pedigree. I loved it. Drink now-2026.'
How Many: 154.50 each

s0212-177. 16 CHATEAU D'AIGUILHE six bottles
Vinous 91: 'The 2016 d'Aiguilhe, bottled in March 2018, is showing some reduction on the nose, although it blows off to reveal black cherries, cassis and hints of date on the nose, plus a bit of black olive lurking in the background. The spicy palate is medium-bodied with firm, grippy tannin. There is impressive energy here, courtesy of the calcaire soils. Well-defined and linear on the finish. A very fine d'Aiguilhe that will reward bottle age. Drink 2022-2036.'
How Many: 159.50 each

s0212-178. 16 CHATEAU JOANIN BECOT six bottles
Parker 92: 'The 2016 Joanin Becot is blended of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, aged on the lees in 65% new and 35% one-year-old oak for 15 months. Deep garnet-purple colored, it features warm plums, blackberry pie and wild blueberries aromas with touches of underbrush and menthol plus a waft of roses. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm and plush with a good fruit core and perfumed finish. Drink 2019-2033.'
How Many: 159.50 each

s0212-179. 16 CHATEAU OLIVIER, GRAND CRU CLASSE six bottles
Parker 91; Wine Spectator 92: 'Lovely, with streaming verbena and chamomile notes pulling straw, white peach, yellow apple and gooseberry flavors along with them. The long salted butter finish has lovely tension. Drink now through 2021.'
How Many: 209.50 each

s0212-180. 16 CHATEAU COUTET, 1ER GRAND CRU CLASSE six half bottles

Full-bodied, rich and seriously seductive, it has a lively line cutting through the sweet, dense layers and epically long finish. Drink 2021-2049.'
How Many: 134.50 each

s0212-181. 16 CHATEAU DOISY DAENE, 2ME GRAND CRU CLASSE six half bottles
Parker 94+: 'Pale lemon colored, the 2016 Doisy Daene is a little closed, opening out to reveal lime blossoms, Mandarin peel, candied lemon peel and peach blossoms scents with hints of spice cake and creme brulee. Medium in body, open-knit and accessible, the 2016 is easy to drink and enjoy right now. The 2016 Carmes is an absolutely delicious second wine from Rieussec that emphasizes freshness and immediacy. Drink now-2028.'
