INTRODUCTION
BEHIND THE CELLAR DOOR CUSTOMER APPRECIATION SALE
One of our newer suppliers, Wayne Parker’s Behind the Cellar Door Distributing features an attractive portfolio of Californian, French, German, Spanish, and Italian wines, many of which are on our shelves. These last days of January, Wayne’s offering his retail and restaurant customers special pricing on a number of wines from his repertoire. We’ve selected 26 for this feature, on the basis of quality, value, and familiarity. Several come from the Spanish portfolio of my longtime friend Tom George’s Frontier Imports. Tom’s daughter was a regular VC shopper while earning her MBA at U of M. She now runs Frontier.

The oak accents here are smooth and creamy too, fully sympathetic with 2015's ripe fruit./ Oak-fruit harmony carries over to the palate, and there‛s ripe fruit and fruit acidity balance as well. Long and ingratiating aftertaste. 94+/100. List price: $80.
How Many: 64.95 each

s0205-105. 14 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE TRADITION, LE VIEUX DONJON
Vinous 93: ‛Brilliant ruby-red. Smoke-accented aromas of red and dark berry preserves, star anise and candied flowers convey a subtle hint of garrigue in the background. Sweet, seamless and broad on the palate, offering concentrated black raspberry and rose pastille flavors that turn spicier with air. Rich but vibrant as well, with no excess fat. Supple tannins build steadily on a very long, incisive finish that leaves behind notes of dark berries and candied flowers.‛ List price: $72.
How Many: 54.95 each

s0205-110. 13 RIOJA VENDIMIA SELECCIONADA LAR DE SOTOMAYOR, DOMECO DE JARAUTA
Vinous 90: ‛Opaque ruby. Aromas of dark berries, cherry pit and cola, with a mocha note emerging with aeration. Supple, expansive blackberry and bitter cherry flavors are lifted by a jolt of tangy acidity. Lingers nicely on the long, gently sweet finish, with the cherry and cola notes repeating. This wine was aged for a year in a combination of new and two-year-old French oak barrels. 2018-2021.‛ List price: $17.

s0205-112. 12 MONTSANT BESLLUM, CELLER MALONDRO
Vinous 90: ‘Aged in a combination of new French, American and Hungarian oak for ten months. Bright purple. Potent black and blue fruit preserves, with lifted incense aromas, smoky mineral and peppery spice notes. Sweet, penetrating and refreshingly brisk on the palate, offering fresh blueberry and cassis flavors that deepen on the back half. Together, a reappearing mineral quality and smooth, slow-building tannins frame and give gentle grip to the long, fruit-driven finish. This suave wine is approachable now but really deserves at least a few more years of patience. (Tasted 1/16). 2018 to 2024. $24.’
How Many: 17.99 each

s0205-115. 11 BAROLO LA VILLA, ALDO E RICCARDO SEGHESIO
Vinous 91: ‛The 2011 Barolo is everything an entry-level Barolo should be. Creamy and inviting on the palate, the 2011 offers lovely depth, with expressive balsamic notes that add nuance and just enough acidity to balance things out nicely. The 2011 is up-front and giving, but without being too imposing. Now-2023.‛ List price: $42.

s0205-116. 12 BARBARESCO ALBESANI, CANTINA DE PINO
