Inviting for tannat though not quite as immediate as the 2013. Dense, rich, strong./ Fabulously fleshy fruit for tannat. It does sport tannat tannin though. Spicy oak and fruit. Long. 17.0+.
WT102616-10. 11 MAREMMA SERRATA BELGVARDO, MARCHESI MAZZEI - (ITALY) 13.5%; 80% sangiovese, 20% alicante; aged 12 months in oak barrels. Open and developed but also tannic. Oak too. Awkward stage./ Same. Dry and woody. Medium bodied. Personally, I can’t get an honest read, but orders were taken. 16.2+.
WT102616-11. 13 KENWOOD SONOMA CABERNET SAUVIGNON - (U.S. WEST COAST) 13.5%. Fine 2013 cabernet representative. Power, black fruit, frame, material, wood. Fully as good a 13 as the 12 was a 12./ Yes, fruit and oak and power all in abundance and in balance. Fine value. Long and well textured. 17.0+.

WT102616-13. 14 ARAGON GARNACHA DE FUEGO OLD VINES, BODEGAS BRECA - (SPAIN) 14.5%; 3000' elevation. Sweet and strong, direct and dry. Some cool purple aspects of high altitude fruit and the cool 2014 vintage./ Dry and tannic in 14. Straight forward flavor interests. Popular with the group. It does deliver a lot of material for the money. 15.9+.
WT102616-14. 15 WEHLENER SONNENUHR RIESLING SPATLESE, WEINGUT STUDERT PRUM - MAXIMINHOF - (GERMANY) 9%. Full sweetness of 15 and full tingle of a Studert riesling too. Classic like the 12 but with less development in both aromatics and textural fullness./ With aeration, it becomes more bountiful, sporting a full fledged high spatlese lusciousness. It continues to sweet, tingle, and stimulate. The beauties of fully ripe fruit plus botrytis extras. Full concentration and great acidity and extract too. 17.7+.

WT101916-1. 11 RIESLING BRUT LOT. NR. 12.2015, DR. BURKLIN-WOLF - (GERMANY) 12.5%. Little resin. No bottle bouquet of the yeast autolysis sort. Just riesling development./ Well now, here’s some bottle bouquet doughiness. And mature riesling. Dry and lightly salty on the finish. From the carbonation I suppose. 16.1.
WT101916-2. 13 CHATEAU GRAND ABORD, GRAVES BLANC - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12.5%; 80% semillon, 20% sauvignon. Savory lemon creme brulee. At a very revealing and flattering stage. Light sauvignon zesty citrus./ Rich, round semillon texture with good acid spiel plus marked sauvignon lime zest. Great Graves blanc! 17.0.
WT101916-3. 15 JOEL GOTT UNOAKED CALIFORNIA CHARDONNAY - (U.S. WEST COAST) 13.9%. Good citrus aroma with light apple support. One deep and rich unoaked chardonnay./ Soft on entry; then citrus back-bite. Pretty fat palate for unoaked chardonnay. 16.0.

WT101916-6. 13 PFALZ PINOT NOIR DRY, WEINGUT DR. BURKLIN-WOLF - (GERMANY) 13%. Both sweet and herbal-peel-green northern pinot. Toasty overtone. Burgundy like./ Oh, yes, cool, racy, tart, and reminiscent of an Auxerre pinot. Sweet enough touch too. Great German pinot noir. 16.5.
WT101916-7. 14 ERATH OREGON PINOT NOIR - (U.S. WEST COAST) 13.5%. Fresh, adequately ripe, elegant 2014 Oregon pinot style. Ideal, really./ Yes, smooth glycerol and fresh, savory cherry flavors of cool climate pinot noir. 16.5.
WT101916-8. 14 PIETRA SANTA ROUTE 152 CENTRAL COAST PINOT NOIR - (U.S. WEST COAST) 14.2%. Strong and black fruited. A bit singed even. Carries it off well. Serious stuff./ Powerful, dry, bold, generous. Begs for food. 16.3+.
WT101916-9. 14 CHIANTI CLASSICO ROCCA DELLE MACIE, FAMIGLIA ZINGARELLI - (ITALY) 13.5%; estate bottled. Strong as usual, but exceptionally fresh in this cool vintage. 2014 works well here. Deep sangiovese red and black fruit. No dried fruit in 2014./ Yes, power, glycerol as usual plus cool race. Ideal acidity and balance. 16.6+.
WT101916-10. 12 VINO NOBILE DI MONTEPULCIANO, FATTORIA DEL CERRO - (ITALY) 13.5%; aged 2 years, 80% in Slavonian casks, 20% in French barriques. Oh, a sweet, revealing and well balanced 2012 with Vino Nobile violets, sweetness, and flair. Yes!/ Indeed. Light oak, good form, 2012 dark core, plus Vino Nobile relief. Full, fine tannin. 17.0+.
WT101916-12. 14 COTES DU RHONE CUVEE MACLURA, CHATEAU PEGAU - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14%; 60% grenache, 25% syrah, 10% mourvedre, 5% cinsault. Bold and spicy fruit range expressive of all the varietal components. Powerfully built and sweet fruited in cool 2014. 14 racy too. More about Pegau than the vintage./ But 14 makes an impression. The wine is relatively fruity, with good aromatic cool flair. One well crafted 14. Very popular with the group. 16.6+.

WT101916-14. 15 PIESPORTER GOLDTROPFCHEN RIESLING SPATLESE, WEINGUT BOLLIG-LEHNERT - (GERMANY) 8%. Already some development showing. Also the vineyard peachiness./ Full, sweet, round Goldtropfchen riesling with mild or coated 2105 acidity. Give it time. 16.2++.
WT101916-15. 14 BURG LAYER SCHLOSSKAPELLE SPATLESE, ST. ANTONIUS - A. BIROTH - (GERMANY) 9.5%. Nose still compromised by residual sulphur./ Palate already sweet and honeyed, and nectarous. Enticing palate. Get another read on the nose after longer aeration, when the sulphur will have no doubt blown off. 16.0+.

WT101216-2. 15 PAESTUM FIANO PIAN DI STIO, AZ. AGR. SAN SALVATORE half liter - (ITALY) 13%. Delicate, subtle fiano aromas of honey and flowers. Discreet. A joy to sniff. Spot on./ Oh, a burst of mineral salts and fiano savors. All it could be. I prefer it to the fine 2014. 17.1.
WT101216-3. 15 SAUMUR BLANC CLOS DU MIDI, CHATEAU DE BREZE - (FRANCE LOIRE) 13%. Brisk and bright. Nice Saumur chenin quince, calcaire, race./ Oh, juicy, savory cooked quince taste. Full acid, full extract. A super-sized chenin for food. 16.9.
WT101216-4. 14 RHEINHESSEN SILVANER ALTE REBEN DRY, DR. HEYDEN - (GERMANY) 12.5%. Has some fizz./ Penetrating, old vines aromatic concentration. Racy, stimulating, full nostril assault./ Rich old vines intensity. In the absence of residual sweetness, glycerol gives roundness. Very flavorful right through the long aftertaste. 17.0.

WT101216-6. 15 FRANKEN GRAUBURGUNDER KABINETT DRY, BRENNFLECK - (GERMANY) 13%; Gold Medal - Franken; est. 1591. Lightly nutty tone of pinot gris. Grows larger and broader with aeration./ Rich in both flavor and texture. A good Franken take on the variety. Full and long aftertaste. 16.7.
WT101216-7. 15 COTES DU RHONE ROSE, E. GUIGAL - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 13.5%. Young, large, bold Cotes du Rhone style of rose for winter. Sweet raspberry syrah emphasis of a northern Rhone winemaker./ Rich and round and fruity. Well built. Will fill, thrive, and fulfill for cold-season use. 16.4+.
WT101216-8. 14 FOREFRONT SAN LUIS OBISPO - SANTA BARBARA PINOT NOIR - (U.S. WEST COAST) 14.1%; 84-16. Fresh, cool, and crunchy pinot typical for its origins. Right, and well poised. Racier and less bulky than the 2013./ Oh, lovely, cool, sweet pinot with good power and follow-through. 16.6.
WT101216-9. 13 CAMERON HUGHES COLLECTION NORTH COAST CABERNET SAUVIGNON - (U.S. WEST COAST) 13.8%. 2013 blackness, power, frame, peels extract. Close and backward still. Not much barrel influence showing at this stage./ Rich, full, strong 2013 cabernet constitution. All meat, no potatoes. Striking, big-time value. 16.2+/16.8.
WT101216-11. 15 COTES DU RHONE VILLAGES LA JASSINE, BIELER PERE - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; 63% grenache, 37% syrah. 2015 richness, Villages power. Spicy garrigue. Plenty of potential for growth./ Sweet fruited, full bodied, loaded. Lots of cracked peppercorns. Fine fruit tannins. Long finish. A deal! 17.0+.
WT101216-12. 15 PRIORAT CAMINS DEL PRIORAT, ALVARO PALACIOS - (SPAIN) 14.1-16%. Reductive and tarry. Just a bud./ Good fruit sweetness and acidity. Way underdeveloped. A waste to serve now, unless some serious, lengthy aeration would bring it out of its bud casing. 16.0++.
WT101216-13. REGGIANO LAMBRUSCO I QUERCIOLI SECCO, MEDICI ERMETE - (ITALY) 11%. Full color./ Light frizzante sparkle. High aromatic intensity pushed forth by its mousse. Buoyant and rich raspberry aroma./ Racy. Full fruit and flower. Brisk tartness. Yow! The real deal. 16.9.
WT101216-14. REGGIANO LAMBRUSCO I QUERCIOLI DOLCE, MEDICI ERMETE - (TIALY) 8.5%. The nose is likewise fizzy, which gives a dry impression. Good, dark, tart berry fruit./ Sweeter of course. Also generous in dark fruit and purple flower flavors. Great acid to foil the sweetness, so the overall impression is one of raciness and meal-worthiness. 16.7.
WT101216-15. 13 ALSACE GEWURZTRAMINER, ANDRE SCHERER - (FRANCE ALSACE) 13%. Full of classic rose and tonic aromas. Elegant and racy in the winemaker style./ Wow, flair, high fashion, sleekness, full gewurz flavor spectrum, acidity, balance, all. Yes. 17.0.

WT100516-2. 15 NIEDEROSTERREICH GRUNER VELTLINER STEINIG, STADT KREMS - (GERMANY) 12%. Good apple and peel. Well proportioned; perfect pitch./ Yes, fruity and nicely balanced. More about apple pulp and peel than legume. Nice and dry. Good value. 16.1.
WT100516-3. 15 VALDADIGE PINOT GRIGIO, SANTA MARGHERITA - (ITALY) 12.5%. Fresh, and very green fruited for sunny 2015./ Apple and lime flavors. Texture a little gritty. A standard Valdadige grigio, on the high side, price wise. 16.0.
WT100516-4. 15 VENEZIE PINOT GRIGIO DUETORRI, CESARI - (ITALY) 12.5%. Oh, this is snappy, spicy, vivacious. Cedar air. Full of texture, extract./ Yes, this has a lot of vitality. Citrus savors that shade toward sauvignon blanc. Unique. 16.6.
WT100516-5. 15 POUILLY FUME LA CRAIE, BAILLY - (FRANCE LOIRE) 12.5%. Racy citrus peel and walnut husk. Brisk and unique./ Rich palate featuring Pouilly Fume stone fruit. Good balance of 2015 softness and racy acidity. 16.6.
WT100516-6. 15 CHATEAU TREBIAC, GRAVES BLANC - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12.5%; at Portets; proprietor Arnaud de Butler; 80% semillon, 20% sauv blanc. Good full semillon statement. Both plumpness and race. Classic Graves./ The ripeness of the vintage, the viscosity of semillon, the acid cut of sauvignon. Winning balance of all components. 16.6.
WT100516-7. 15 WACHENHEIMER RIESLING TROCKEN, DR. BURKLIN-WOLF - (GERMANY) 12.5%. Young, unformed, tight laced, and dry nose. Just a bud./ Yes, at this point just traces of riesling fruit, flower, terpene. Plenty of extract. This has great potential, longevity. 16.3++.
WT100516-8. 12 ALSACE RIESLING SCHLOSSBERG GRAND CRU THE FURST, VIGNERONS DE KIENTZHEIM-KAYSERSBERG - (FRANCE ALSACE) 12.5%. Well, this is Alsace Riesling Grand Cru full and, indeed, grand. Grand Vin! Rich in minerally soil and site savors. Noble stature./ Dry and full, with enveloping glycerol smoothness. 17.1+.

Wow./ Great acid and frame, with grenache sweet strawberry and raspberry center. Cracked pepper, raspberry seed zestiness plus round glycerol balance. Yes. 16.7.

WT100516-12. 13 NEDERBURG WINEMASTER’S RESERVE WESTERN CAPE CABERNET SAUVIGNON - (SOUTH AFRICA) 14.5%; est. 1791. Reductive. Some brett. No cabernet signals./ Deep, and rich in fruit cremes. Easy appeal. No animal on the palate. Enough acid. 15.0/16.0.
WT100516-13. 14 TOSCANA CAMPONOVO, TENUTA DE SESTA - (ITALY) 14%; estate bottled at Montalcino; owned by Dr. Giovanni Ciacci. Reduced, stinky./ Closed. No scratch or sewer on the palate. Give lots of aeration. 14.5++.
WT100516-14. 14 NIERSTEINER REHBACH RIESLING SPATLESE, WEINGUT EUGEN WEHRHEIM - (GERMANY) 9.5%. Oh, good textural edge of dry extract. Fabulous class of Rehbach, including the signature tangerine aroma./ Spatlese sweetness and acidity in balance. Glorious, ever-lasting finish. 17.5.
