WT103112-01. 11 TREBBIANO D’ABRUZZO DA MA, MARRAMIERO - (ITALY) 12%. A fine and full trebbiano, up to the quality and amplitude of the 2010. Deep apple and peel scents./ Rich taste and feel. As full as it gets, short of Valentini’s $75 version. Nice touch of cream at the end. The group was impressed. 16.4.
WT103112-02. 11 CASTILLA PROTOCOLO, DOMINIO DE EGUREN - (SPAIN) 12.5%; airen, macabeo. Not as fresh as I expected. Warmth of the south. Macabeo speaks too./ Full and soft. High pH. Will evolve quickly. 15.2.
WT103112-03. 11 SANCERRE, DOMAINE DAULNY - (FRANCE LOIRE) 12.5%. Wow! Extreme gooseberry. Totally fresh. One of the best vintages of this. Sooo bright!/ Gooseberry and flowers. Just lovely. So crystal clear. Such a precise definition of Sancerre. The group loved it. 17.3.
WT103112-04. 10 POUILLY VINZELLES EN PARADIS, LOUIS LATOUR - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%. Light dash of toasty oak. Adds dimension without domination. The right Vinzelles lift and weight./ Nice toast and grain oak and Burgundy chardonnay flavor. Latour fruit and frame and style. Good acid and grip for food. 16.9+.
WT103112-05. 11 CLINE NORTH COAST VIOGNIER - (U.S.) 14%. Peach and blossom. Sweet honeysuckle. Good glycerol gives a richness that’s cut by bright, racy acidity./ The ease and flow of 2011. That classic viognier bitter trace at the end. Well liked by the group.16.2.
WT103112-06. 11 ANGELINE RESERVE SONOMA-SANTA BARBARA-MENDOCINO PINOT NOIR - (U.S.) 13.9%; 55-25-20. Sweet and bountiful pinot. Lovely oak spice. 2011 lift. An admirable 2011./ Rich and smooth. Real pinot character and plenty of it. The mix of regions talking, adding complexity and entertainment. Long and sweet and lovely finish. Bravo! The group was impressed. 16.7.
WT103112-07. 10 SANTA CAROLINA ESTATE RESERVA VALLE DE CACHAPOAL CARMENERE - (CHILE) 14%; aged 8 months in oak barrels. Sweet and full fruit cremes. Some wood spice. Black fruits and berries./ 2010 compactness. Touch of carmenere leather. Will fill out with more bottle age. 16.1+.
WT103112-08. 10 COTES DU RHONE SAINT ESPRIT, DELAS - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14%. The right structure, classicism, and sweet center. Delas and 2010 ideals./ Yes, form, filling, forgiveness. Good acid and tannin. Another fine Delas Cotes du Rhone vintage. I’ve enjoyed 40 years of them. 16.4+.
WT103112-09. 09 PRIORAT GINE GINE, BUIL & GINE - (SPAIN) 14%. Reduction signs under screwcap at opening. And so much more welling up through them, soon chasing them off. So much sweet black and blue fruits, such a complex. And spicy oak too. Wow! Lots of goodies here!/ Young, full, tight, right. Well balanced. Aeration and bottle age will work wonders. 17.0+.
WT103112-10. 08 CASTILLA Y LEON LAGAR DE ROBLA, VINOS DE ARGANZA - (SPAIN) 14%. Nice and open and sweet and toasty. Class oak spices. Ripe southern fruit./ Ripe, soft, sweet, enticing. Easy to comprehend and very useful now. 16.3.
WT103112-11. 08 EGRI BIKAVER, VITAVIN - (HUNGARY) 12.5%. Wow! Sweet and intense. Loaded with concentrated black fruits and spices too. Wow! Big and expressive./ Yeah, full, spicy, flavorful. Plum, flowers, and lots more. Best ever. Well liked by the group. 16.8.
WT103112-12. 11 ALSACE GEWURZTRAMINER, HELFRICH - (FRANCE ALSACE) 12.5%; founded 1934. Cool, tonic, fresh. A little laid back in a Bas Rhin way. Ginger nip. Good glycerol./ Yes, rich in glycerol. Perhaps a dash of RS. Full, spicy flavor. Bas Rhin flattering softness. Nice juice. 16.8.
WT103112-13. 09 RIBERA DEL DUERO TEMPRANILLO TAMIZ, BODEGAS REYES - (SPAIN) In the afternoon, firm RDD style even though the bottle was opened yesterday. Good, clear RDD tempranillo expression comes through thanks to no oak excesses. Later, in the evening, lovely, perfectly ready to enjoy bouquet. Sweet fruit and oak./ Yes, sweet fruit, good form, fine oak. Open hearted, rangy, forthcoming. Well balanced. The virtues

WT101712-01. 11 CRISTOBAL 1492 MENDOZA CHARDONNAY - (ARGENTINA) 13%. Pretty fresh. Lemon moving to orange./ Yeah, getting into the orange peel stage. Time to move on to the 2012. Mild acid. Ho hum. Have enjoyed other vintages more. 15.5.
WT101712-02. 11 ALTO ADIGE PINOT GRIGIO, CANTINA TERLAN - (ITALY) 13.5%. Full. Especially for Alto Adige. Apple, nut. Good stage./ Full. Soft acid.. Has the body for mealtime applications. 16.5.
WT101712-03. 09 SHERWOOD MARLBOROUGH PINOT NOIR - (NEW ZEALAND) 13%. Medium dark red violet./ Fresh, crisp, bright NZ style. Cherry, basil, chervil, pitch. Clear headed and upbeat./ Wow! At once rich and lifted. Perfect acid-glycerol balance. Great, fresh, inspiring aftertaste. 17.0.
WT101712-04. 10 ALEXANDER VALLEY VINEYARDS WETZEL FAMILY ESTATE ALEXANDER VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON - (U.S.) 14%. Romantic, perfumed. Sweet berries and potpourri. A complete 2010 beauty./ Some American oak still floats on top. Plenty of fruit support under. Will merge over the coming months. Both oak and fruit tannins. Good sweet-acid balance. Long finish. Well liked by the group, even the Europhiles. 2010 sports Euro-style
WT101712-05. 10 RIOJA, SIERRA CANTABRIA - (SPAIN) 13.5%; rose, violets, raspberry; red cherry, plum, vanilla, licorice. Some subtle oak. Lots of sweet fruit. Same lines as the 2008 I love, but at an earlier stage of development of course. Good stuff./ Yeah, sweet and elegant fruit and fruit cremes as in the 2008. Balanced and long. Lovely. 16.6+.
WT101712-06. 09 DOURO BARCO NEGRO, FRANCOIS LURTON - (PORTUGAL) 13%. Hearty, husky, and firm as usual. Less of a bear than the 08. Douro sweetness, singed fruit./ Sweeter and softer than usual this vintage Appealing mouthfeel. Aromatics still nascent. Sweet aftertaste. Final vintage of this. 16.0+.
WT101712-07. 09 TOSCANA LAGONE, AIA VECCHIA - (ITALY) 15%. Plenty ripe. Frank and powerful. Full oak expression. Finesse is not a descriptor here./ Good oak seasonings accompanied by sweet fruit as usual. The nose is riper than usual, the palate in tune with the series. Lovely balance of fruit and oak. Long finish. 16.5+.
WT101712-08. 08 SALICE SALENTINO RISERVA, LEONE DE CASTRIS - (ITALY) 13%; since 1665; Salice made since 1954; 90% negroamaro, 10% malvasia nera. Sweet and scorched and right. Long in barrel riserva complex. 08 dark fruit. Sweet, spicy oak./ Yes, dried and sweet fruits, zesty oak, time in barrel development–breadth, depth. Just right. In fact, terrific. 17.1.
WT101712-09. 11 COTES DU ROUSSILLON VILLAGES LES VIGNES DE BILA HAUT, M. CHAPOUTIER - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%. Reduced. Southern Rhone Chapoutier wines often are. And this one’s under cork, not screwcap./ Reduction keeps it pretty flat, lacking in depth and texture. Some good fruit evident, including whole bunch fermentation fragrance. Has hopes for more interest after aeration and time in bottle. 15.8+.
WT101712-10. 10 JIM BARRY THE LODGE HILL CLARE VALLEY SHIRAZ - (AUSTRALIA) 14.5%. Very big, firm, oaky. The oak is attractive. I like its power, poise, and promise./ A complex of ripe fruit and spicy oak. Large presence. Unique and exciting. Good future. And good now with steak off the grill. 16.7+.
WT101712-11. 11 MOSEL ESTATE RIESLING OLD VINES, ST. URBANS-HOF - (GERMANY) 9.5%. Apricots! Yow! Full and nostril swelling. As rich and intense as a fruit wine. Full color and concentration./ Full flavored. Cedar, peach, apricot. Good acid and good fruit confite coating. A complete Mittel Mosel Qba. 17.0+.
WT101712-12. 11 MOSCATO D’ASTI CASCINETTA, VIETTI - (ITALY) 5.5%. Very bright and blossomy. Peach and orange. Uplifting./ Cedar, rose, peach. Good acid. Fine mousse and feel. Bravo! 17.1.

WT101012-01. 11 BOWERS HARBOR OLD MISSION PENINSULA PINOT GRIGIO - (U.S.) 12%. Oh, boy, ultra crisp and northern...while conveying some of pinot gris’ innate plumpness too. Apple and pear. Fabulous./ Yeah, both racy and plump. You CAN have it both ways. 16.7.
WT101012-02. 11 MERRYVALE STARMONT NAPA VALLEY SAUVIGNON BLANC - (U.S.) 13.5%. Both sauvignon crisp and California sauvignon full, as usual./ Yeah! Fabulous display of grass and gooseberry; no grapefruit. Not that I don’t like the grapefruit oriented sauvignons. I just enjoy a departure from this common theme once in awhile. Full and right. No excess alcohol, power, or heat as in many a California sauvignon. Even the
Europhiles were impressed. 16.9.
WT101012-03. 10 BOURGOGNE, BERTRAND AMBROISE - (FRANCE BOURGOGNE) 13%. Under screwcap, this starts out reduced. Aeration works wonders. Now full fruit, full pinot character./ Yes, fruity, spicy, smoky, tarry. Good oak. A most fulfilled 2010 Bourgogne pinot noir. Good future too. 16.8+.
WT101012-04. 07 LANGHE ANNA, BOROLI - (ITALY) 13%; 51% barbera, 37% nebbiolo, 12% merlot.
Working into a mellow maturity. Good, dark fruited barbera constitution with dab of nebbiolo tar./ An harmonious balance of the constituent varieties. Sweet, vital, very bright in flavor and texture. Will continue to improve. 16.6+.
WT101012-05. 09 CHIANTI CLASSICO, BORGO SCOPETO - (ITALY) 13%. Yes! Fabulous dried fruit, oak, and sweet cherry fruit too./ Full oak spiciness, not woodiness. Both sweet and dried fruits. Great acid for 09. Long and full textured. 17.0+.
WT101012-06. 10 CARINENA GARNACHA, CASTILLO DE MONSERAN - (SPAIN) 12.5%. A legitimate rancio nose, just as intended. Thus both sweet and edgy. Deep, roti, singed./ Yes, sweet, baked, pruny. Old time Spain Fine tannin. 16.3.
WT101012-07. 08 TERRA ALTA LUDOVICUS, CELLER PINOL - (SPAIN) 13.5%; 35% garnacha, 30% tempranillo, 25% syrah, 10% cabernet sauvignon; vineyards at 1200 feet.
Lovely warmth of development. Fine oak complex too. Sweet, suave, savory fruit complex./ Wow! Rich and savory fruit and oak. Good acid. Retains a great deal of freshness and brightness as it evolves to bouquet and mellowness. 16.9.
WT101012-08. 09 PLAN DE DIEU COTES DU RHONE VILLAGES DOMAINE DE L’ESPIGOUETTE, BERNARD LATOUR - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14%. Oh, wow! So soft and open and spicy. Lots of garrigue. Sweet fruit center. Classic Espigouette!/ Oh, boy, peppercorn and garrigue all over the place. With fine acid and tannin. Out of sight. 17.4+.
WT101012-09. 10 NINE STONES BAROSSA SHIRAZ - (AUSTRALIA) 14%. Ripe, dark, spicy, oaky, sweet, deep, smoky. This is Barossa shiraz./ Yeah, smoky and ripe fruit of 2010. Well balanced. Classic Nine Stones Barossa cuvee. 16.6+.
WT101012-10. 07 CARAVEL OUTCAST NAPA VALLEY ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 14.3%. Ripe and sassy. Not Napa elegant; too big and bold for that. Powerful, roti fruit. Good oak./ Sweet vanilla oak. Sweet and good fruit. Not typical Napa zin. Made for fans of big zins. Long, powerful, textured. Fine tannin. Great follow through. Fulfills its intended role if not its terroir. 17.2+.
WT101012-11. 11 MOSEL RIESLING CAT BOTTLE, MOSELLAND half liter - (GERMANY) 10%. Bright, brisk, crisp young Mosel riesling of 2011 attributes./ The right stuff. Cedar, spice, apple. The bottle is whimsical; the wine is serious. 16.4.
WT101012-12. MACKINAW TRAIL MICHIGAN STRAWBERRY - (U.S.) 12.5%. Sweet, syrupy nose. Not very intense in strawberry aroma. But a genuine fruit aroma, not a lab generated one./ An odd tarry component. Lacks fruit purity and intensity. Not what I’m looking for. 13.5.

WT100312-01. 11 VENEZIE PINOT GRIGIO KRIS, FRANZ HAAS - (ITALY) 12.5%. Very full and expressive. Deep apple, pear, melon, nut. Fabulous./ Full for its appellation. Delivers flavor and weight while retaining lift, relief. 16.3.
WT100312-02. 10 MINHO ALVARINHO-TRAJADURA AURATUS, QUINTA DO FEITAL - (PORTUGAL) 12.5%. Some nuttiness of maturity. Nice nostril etch. Deep and complex. Stone and tropical fruits presented in a subtle manner. Full bodied./ Yes, full, nutty. Poached peach. Full texture and range. At a good stage. 17.0.
WT100312-03. 10 LANGUEDOC BLANC, DOMAINE DE NIZAS - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 13.5%; 40% roussanne, 36% rolle, 18% viognier. Good form and fragrance. Each of the three aromatic varieties makes a statement. This works./ Some viognier and rolle (vermentino) bitter relief. Full. Dry. Made for food. 16.1.
WT100312-04. 11 JOEL GOTT CALIFORNIA SAUVIGNON BLANC - (U.S.) 13.9%. Fabulous grass and gooseberry aromas. A little grapefruit too. Good and crisp./ The flavor range confirms the broad aroma. Dry, crisp, balanced. Cleansing and salivating. 16.8.
WT100312-05. 10 CUPCAKE CENTRAL COAST PINOT NOIR - (U.S.) 13.5%; cherry cupcake with currant coulis. Nice and racy 2010 Central Coast pinot without tea, herb, or tartness. Cherry and toast. Pie crust./ Flows nicely. Sweet enough pinot fruit coupled with 2010 race. Love it! 16.3.
WT100312-06. 10 J. LOHR FALCON’S PERCH MONTEREY PINOT NOIR - (U.S.) 13.5%; cherry, rose petal, white pepper, toasted oak. Classic Monterey cool cherry, tea, and tar. Nice oak toast. Sweet as a nut./ Good race, coolness, astringency. Vigorous and balanced. Works. 16.4+.
WT100312-07. 10 CHATEAU ST. JEAN SIGNATURE CALIFORNIA RED - (U.S.) 13.8%; cabernet sauvignon, merlot, zinfandel, petite sirah, syrah, malbec; blackberry, mocha, spice. Oak stands out. Suggests oak in wine rather than wine in oak. Sweet fruit support–especially sweet for the vintage. Some tart fruit in the background too./ Yeah, this is woody, but not overly. Some wood tannin. Sweet and tart fruit. OK juice. Better
after the oak settles in. 15.9+.
WT100312-08. 10 JOEL GOTT 815 CALIFORNIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON - (U.S.) 13.9%. Sweet and ripe for the vintage. I detect some Paso Robles warm fruit. It’s even a little singed. Light oak toast overtones./ Sweet and sassy fruit and oak. Full and rich for 2010. Well crafted. 16.2+.
WT100312-09. 11 BODEGA RENACER PUNTO FINAL PERDRIEL MALBEC - (ARGENTINA) 14%; black cherry, dark berries, spices, vanilla, caramel, chocolate. Nice and toasty. Warmth of both fruit and oak. Round and sweet and alluring. Just right./ Good fruit sweetness, oak toast, 2011 acidity. This carries itself well...right to the table. 16.3.
WT100312-10. 10 CHIANTI, VILLA SAN GIOVANNI - (ITALY) 12.5%; wicker wrapped fiasco. Traditional. Tart, racy, vinous. Some dried fruit glycerol. Dab of tar./ Medium bodied. Tarry. Light tannin. A racy, bistro style red in want of high-acid tomato sauce pasta and pizza dishes. 15.1+.
WT100312-11. 08 BARBERA D’ASTI ALBERA ARALDICA, CANTINE DI CASTEL BOGLIONE - (ITALY) 14%; albera is an ancient name for barbera; matured in oak casks. Oh, sweet black cherry barbera nose. A great face of 08 and barbera. Tar, peel, and anise accents. Lovely./ Rough and rugged 08 barbera texture. Great acid, feel, audacity. Right for the table. Lovely value! 16.5.
WT100312-12. 07 ALMANSA LA HUELLA DE ADARAS, BODEGAS ALMANSENAS - (SPAIN) 14%. Mature and southern. Some rancio. Pleasing warmth and bouquet development./ Open, rustic, southern, warm, rancio. Frank and honest. Delicious flavor and texture for food. 16.2.
WT100312-13. 07 COTEAUX DU LANGUEDOC, DOMAINE DE NIZAS - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 13.5%; 60% syrah, 35% mourvedre, 5% grenache; aged 12 months in French oak foudres; Silver Medal - Wine International; blackberry, bay leaf, pepper. Sweet Midi syrah leads the way. Some peppercorn and bouquet development./ Open armed, sweet, spicy. Some garrigue herbs. Good stuff. 16.4.

Yeah! Sweet, sexy, spicy, racy, and right. Aims to please. Lovely cinsault cherry and race./ Full flavor, texture, range, depth, length. Has it all. 17.3+.
WT100312-15. 09 MARIETTA SONOMA ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 15.4%; family owned since 1978; aged in French oak barrels. Stalwart, frank, and firm. Ripe and powerful. House style./ Strong, ripe, and sweeter in fruit than the nose suggests. Good Alexander Valley warmth and power. This works. 16.8+.
WT100312-16. 10 CHATEAU GRAND TRAVERSE LATE HARVEST MICHIGAN CHARDONNAY - (U.S.) 10.5%; since 1974; 4.4% RS. Spicy, racy, sweet. Some oak seasonings?/ Yes, sweet and balanced. Not too sweet. Mild chardonnay aromatics. Mealtime possibilities. 16.3.
