WT112414-02. 13 ALTO ADIGE SAUVIGNON, CANTINA TRAMIN - (ITALY) 13.5%; from high altitude villages Montan and Tramin. Full and penetrating, with Alto Adige briskness../ Gooseberry emphasis. A distinctive sauvignon blanc presentation, quite unlike anything from other regions noted for this variety. 16.4+.

Southern Rhone varieties vinosity, lack of much fruit-flower perfume. Some banana fermentation aroma still./ Full acidity. Banana echoes on the palate. Air it well and age it a few more weeks.. 15.4+.

Muscadelle exotica, botanicals, even hops./ Yes, semillon fat and smooth with racy sauvignon citrus and muscadelle green herb, botanical, hops stuff. Unique. Semillon glycerol glides the finish to a soft landing. 16.4.

Nice sweet oak toast. Cherry tart./ Rich and smooth cherry and toast pinot winner with game too. Suave and delish once again. Good power. 16.7.

WT111914-09. 10 COUSINO-MACUL FINIS TERRAE MAIPO VALLEY RED - (CHILE) 14%; unfiltered; 72% cab sauv, 20% merlot, 8% syrah. Ripe, dark Maipo cabernet fruit. Sweet fruited and woody. Sweet and dried boysenberries, elderberries./ Fine and full oak. Exotic woods and fully ripe berries. A great, succulent Maipo cabernet. 17.1+.

WT111914-10. 11 CHIANTI RUFINA RISERVA, RENZO MASI - (ITALY) 13.5%; 95% sangiovese, 5% colorino; aged 18 months in French barriques, 12 months in bottle. To my tastes, better than the 2010, though that got good press too. Back to the prior vintages I’ve loved. Dark, deep, fresh (not dried) fruit plus fine oak. Real riserva character and quality at a bargain price./ Really sweet fruited and viscous for Rufina with fine oak and good, drying tannin on the finish. Yin and yang of easy and serious. 16.8+.

WT111914-11. 09 TOSCANA, CASTELLO DI MELETO - (ITALY) 13.5%. Deep, ripe, sweet, suave fresh and dried fruits. Nice development of fruit forward 2009 at age five./ Mature, suave, nutty. Good acid-glycerol play of ripe sangiovese. Still a little tannin, which adds texture. Highly useful at this stage 16.4.

WT111914-12. 09 RIOJA RESERVA ART SERIES, CAMPO VIEJO - (SPAIN) 13.5%; in artist canister. Nice, sweet 2009 Rioja Baja. One of the best in the series. Fruity. Fine, ripe fruit. Oak fully in tune. The fruit is great in 2009./ Dry as always. Enough glycerol to coat. Baja smooth. 16.2+.

WT111914-13. 11 COTES DU RHONE VILLAGES, DOMAINE DE COURON - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; syrah, grenache, mourvedre. Dark and spicy, broad and powerful for 2011 Ardeche. Loaded. Sweet and smoky black berries essences. Wow!/ Well extracted, powerful. Big for vintage, region. Gives and gives and gives. Still a little tannin to shed; already useful at the table now. 16.8+.

WT111914-14. 12 PLUNGERHEAD OLD VINE DRY CREEK VALLEY ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 14.5%. Sweet, singed, powerful, intense DCV zinfandel. Raspberry, peppercorn, good oak lacings./ Full oak, with powerful, sweet, suave fruit to capture it. Complete, exemplary DCV zinfandel. 17.4+.

WT111914-15. 08 FONSECA LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE PORTO bottled 2013 - (FORTIFIED) 20%; unfiltered. Powerful, concentrated, singed, sweet./ Classic Fonseca sweetness and power balance, with grip and length. One of the best in the series. Harmonious and complete. 17.8+.
