WT112812-01. 11 CHATEAU CHANTAL OLD MISSION PENINSULA CHARDONNAY - (U.S.) 11.5%; unwooded. Full. Apple-citrus chardonnay ID in a cool climate vernacular. Lees aging influence..Coming to full fruition./ Sweetish; yes, there is some RS here. Soft and gentle. Good acid on the rebound. 16.0.

WT112812-02. 11 SOAVE CLASSICO, REMO FARINA - (ITALY) 12%. Well, this talks the Classico and the garganega talk. Full. Truly ‘suave’. Really develops aroma and texture interest as it airs./ Well, all of the above. Full of texture and flavor. A true Classico. 16.7+.

WT112812-03. 11 DRY CREEK VINEYARD DRY CLARKSBURG CHENIN BLANC - (U.S.) 12.5%; since 1972. Definitely the melon chenin character this regularly shows. Low key to start. Going back later, the varietal properties swell up. Fruit sweetness and fullness begin to be revealed in the background./ Well, a fine melon statement of Clarksburg chenin. Good body and texture forming. Truly dry yet suave. Another attractive vintage here. 16.2.

WT112812-04. 11 GRECO DI TUFO LOGGIA DELLA SERRA, TERREDORA DI PAOLO - (ITALY) 13.5%. Enclosed at first. Comes on with aeration. Full. Rich greco stuff./ Full bodied.. Heaps of texture. Flavor still understated. That will come. No issues here other than the need for aeration and/or additional bottle age. 16.6+.

WT112812-05. 10 CRANE LAKE CALIFORNIA PINOT NOIR - (U.S.) 12.5%. Well, it’s good to go back to this at a few months because it has filled out in a positive fashion. Lots of pinot ID, including game, fruit peels and pulp, and really vigorous pinot cherry zestiness./ Good juiciness and valid pinot flavor. Zesty. Peels and pulp contributions. Good value. Bravo! 15.9.

WT112812-06. 10 MUNTE VINU FETEASCA NEAGRA, CRAMELE RECAS - (ROMANIA) 13%. Mainly vinous to start. And mellow. More varietal definition and depth form with aeration./ Full and fine texture. Flavor profile still forming. After half an hour’s aeration, it’s more revealing. Worth airing, and aging a bit more. 15.0+.

WT112812-07. 11 DON ALFONSO VALLE DEL MAULE CABERNET SAUVIGNON - (CHILE) 12.5%; mevushal. Clear of the corky issues of the earlier bottle. Lightly oaky. Sweet fruit. Not as spicy as the 10./ Some green fruit. 2010 was much better. 13.0.

WT112812-08. 10 TRAPICHE OAK CASK MENDOZA MALBEC - (ARGENTINA) 14%; aged 9 months in oak barrels. Good oak–it’s straight forward and gently applied, so it doesn’t dominate. The fruit is sweet. As usual, it’s pleasant, polished, and two dimensional./ Yeah, sweet and 2D. Commercial. OK. It works. Just little depth and flair. 16.0.

WT112812-09. 11 SAVE ME, SAN FRANCISCO WINE CO. DROPS OF JUPITER CALIFORNIA PETITE SIRAH - (U.S.) 13.5%. Sweet but not syrupy. Commercial. Easy./ Sweetish. Good berry taste. In fact, some of the purple berry of a good pet. Rightful, easy going young pet. 16.2.

WT112812-10. 11 BOEKENHOUTSKLOOF THE WOLFTRAP WESTERN CAPE SYRAH-MOURVEDRE-VIOGNIER - (SOUTH AFRICA) 14.5%; 65-32-3. A little reductive but less so than several preceding vintages. Firm. Mourvedre purple fruit./ Good mourvedre purple berries and astringency. Surprising how it dominates the cuvee. Some Cape leather, but not to excess. One of the better vintages of this. 16.2.

WT112812-11. 11 CAMPO DE BORJA VINA BORGIA, BODEGAS BORSAO - (SPAIN) 14%; all garnacha. Sweet, jammy, and typical./ Yeah, splashy fruit. Exceptional acidity this vintage. Which renders it eminently food worthy. 16.3.

WT112812-13. 02 VALDEPENAS TEMPRANILLO GRAN RESERVA 10 YEARS ANCIANO, BODEGAS NAVALON - (SPAIN) 13%; aged 2 years in barrel, 8 in bottle. Sweet enough, though less hefty than the 01. Fine oak caramel tone. Certainly user friendly./ Yeah, oak treacle, sweetly oaky. A great achievement in 02. 16.8.

WT112812-14. 10 TOSCANA SANTA MARTINA, TENUTE FOLONARI - (ITALY) 13.5%; 40% sangiovese, 20% each merlot, cabernet sauvignon, syrah. Sweet but rather staid in youth. Not as stodgy as the 08. No 07 or 09 though. At least not yet./ Yeah, good fruit sweetness, so pleasing already. Will ease up over the coming weeks. 16.2.

WT112812-16. 09 VALPOLICELLA SUPERIORE RIPASSO MARA, CESARI - (ITALY) 13.5%. Good, amarone like sweetness, concentration, and strength. Yeah!/ Again, sweet and real ripasso styling. The usual Mara good stuff. Through and through. One of the best ripassos. 17.0+.

WT112812-17. 10 RANCHO ZABACO HERITAGE VINES SONOMA ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 14.9%. Sweet, oaky, and powerful classic. Raspberry and seed and peppercorn. Total saturation. This in 2010? Good zin vintage in the warm coastal zones./ Yeah, sweet fruited. Raspberry, seed, oak. Oh, boy! 17.0+.

WT112812-18. 11 FRANCAIS SUD OUEST GROS MANSENG - SAUVIGNON BLANC VILLA CHAMBRE D’AMOUR, LIONEL OSMIN - (FRANCE) 11%; mango, pineapple, grapefruit, vanilla. Lovely richness of gros manseng and the crisp role of sauvignon blanc. Mango and citrus indeed./ Lightly sweet and plenty racy. Good acid-sweet balance. Young and rightfully proportioned and poised. 16.9+.

Ripe, flashy, bright, black, open hearted. Sweet black currant. A joy. Fine oak spine./ Yes! Fabulous cassis and oak complex. Joyous, totally enticing. 17.2+.

WT111912-09. 07 VINO NOBILE DI MONTEPULCIANO PODERE LE CAGGIOLE, TIBERINI - (ITALY) 14.5%. Just as refined as the 05. Maybe more so. Nobile indeed! Fabulous oak–as refined as the fruit. Lovely floral overtones. Violets!/ Fine textured and pure. Intense too. Has it all. Elegant and juicy. Fabulously racy acidity. Fine tannin. Full flavors extend the length of the lasting finish. 17.6+.

WT111912-10. 06 RUEDA TINTA FINA ROBLE VINA CLAVIDOR, BODEGAS VIDAL SOBLECHERO - (SPAIN) 13.5%. Deep, sweetly oaky, and sweet fruited, with a wonderful warmth of development. Gorgeous perfumes of fruit cremes and sweet, caramel oak. At a great stage./ Both fresh aromas and well developed bouquet complex. Mellow. Great acid, fine tannin. Has it all for now enjoyment 17.6.

WT111912-11. 10 MARIETTA SONOMA ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 15.3%; since 1978; aged in French oak barrels. Oh, yeah, Dry Creek Valley apple-raspberry aromas. 2010 fresh, crisp acid. Yow! A good area for a cool vintage./ Raspberry concentrate, including the peppery seeds. Sweet and gently flowing. Lovely effort taking the best 10 has to give. Aims to seduce rather than awe. 17.2+.

Lovely, subtle, balsamic. Fresh and ventilating. Cool, minerally 08, with vintage extract and youth./ Lithe and elegant. At a good stage, retaining freshness, showing bouquet development. 17.1+.

Full and expressive in the mouth too, while maintaining a refreshing crispness. Yes, full texture and flavor...and old vines grip. Everything! Wow! Best vintage yet. Well liked by the group. 16.9.

Total size, big-time potential. 16.5+.
