Full oak treatment, with malo butterscotch, wood, nut, barrel age./ Good strength gives structure and malolactic a soft center. Always large and generous. 16.0.
WT052516-6. 13 BIERZO MENCIA, RIBERA DE ULVER - (SPAIN) 13.5%. Good oak. Lots of spice, pepper, vigor, and tart mencia fruit./ Yes, acid and purple fruit and race and coolness of vintage and varietal and region. More ample and rangy than the good 2011. 16.5+.
WT052516-7. 13 ROBERT OATLEY WILD OATS EDNA VALLEY PINOT NOIR - (U.S.) 13.8%. SUS (sulphur under screwcap). Cool pinot fruit behind. Spicy and good for Edna./ But flat and flavorless due to sulphur suppression. 15.0
WT052516-8. 13 COTES DU ROUSSILLON, DOMAINE CABIRAU - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; 70% grenache, 20% syrah, 10% carignan. Wonderful red fruit. Black fruit too; and black pepper. Large./ Large and sweet, with pepper, grip. Wants full fare. Good acid, good ager. 16.5+.
WT052516-9. 11 CARMEN GRAN RESERVA LOS QUILLAYES VYD ALTO MAIPO PETITE SIRAH - (CHILE) 14.6%. Full oak and fruit concentrations. This is big and generous and ripe without going over the top./ Yes, all the blessings echoed on the palate. Volume, sweetness, body, flavor, breadth, all. 17.3.
WT052516-10. 13 SEAN MINOR H. MYNORS OLD VINE SONOMA-AMADOR-LODI ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 15%. Oak and power. No Lodi syrup. Gives. Good combo./ Well composed and managed. Good. 16.3.
WT052516-11. 14 MOSEL RIESLING, CLEAN SLATE - (GERMANY) 10.5%. Shows Mosel riesling ID without the special attributes of a single-site wine./ Good acid, balance. Always reliable, straightforward. 16.0.
WT052516-12. CALEM DACOSTA TAWNY PORTO - (FORTIFIED) 19.5%. Alcohol exaggerated in the Taster glass. The relative dryness of a young Portuguese-house tawny./ Nice sweet fruit and evidence of good barrel age duration. I mistakenly chilled this before the tasting, and it remains cool. No mistake after all. The lower temperature is flattering. After all, the locals drink their tawnies on the rocks during the upper Douro's baked summers.. 16.4.

WT051816-1. 15 MUSCADET SEVRE ET MAINE SUR LIE, DOMAINE DE LA PEPIERE - (FRANCE LOIRE) 12%. Cool, crisp, and full of green undergrowth and botanicals. Green herbs, moss, hyssop./ Very full in the mouth. Ample, gripping texture. Expands, swells up in the mouth. Surely full for 12%. Good acid. Big time generosity. 16.8.
WT051816-2. 15 CHATEAU PERRON, GRAVES BLANC - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12%; 50% sauvignon blanc, 40% semillon, 10% muscadelle. Fine sauvignon gooseberry and muscadelle green mango. Full of ripe and green fruit aromas./ Full body, texture, and flavor ranges. Good balance of acid and ripeness. Best of these I've tasted. 17.0.

WT051816-4. 15 DRY CREEK VINEYARD WILSON RANCH CLARKSBURG DRY CHENIN BLANC - (U.S.) 13%; est. 1972. Very young. Ferment and primary fruit aromas. Green apple, apple blossom./ More flavor than aroma range. Mango, melon, soft fruits. Needs a few weeks. 16.1+.
WT051816-6. 14 SALICE SALENTINO NEGROAMARO PASSAMANTE, MASSERIA LI VELI - (ITALY) 13%. 14 sharp focused and crisp fruited. A cool and positive vintage for a warm land. Bright fruit and a hint of leather./ Very bright 14 fruit vigor, with fine acid. Richness too. Will please fans of this wine. 16.6.

WT051816-8. 14 COTES DU RHONE VIEILLES VIGNES, DOMAINE DE L'ESPIGOUETTE - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14%. Sweet berry and tart vintage fruit too, and black pepper. Fabulous take on 14./ Tart and close yet. Always dependable. Give it time. 16.3+.
WT051816-9. 13 MACEDONIA VRANEC SPECIAL SELECTION, TIKVES - (MACEDONIA) 14%; 100% varietal. Dark and intense. Sweet fruit. Rich and complex; wood and spice./ Dry and tannic and young. All the components are there. 16.4/16.0+.
WT051816-10. 2012 KOBALT WINDOW PANE CALIFORNIA RED - (U.S.) 14.1%; cab sauv, petite sirah, carignane. Sweet, rich, open-hearted 2012 style with oaky complexities. Strong. A big red./ Big, sweet fruit and oak spice. Gives and gives big time. 17.6.
WT051816-11. 13 FABRE MONTMAYOU RESERVA MENDOZA CABERNET FRANC - (ARGENTINA) 14.5%; Decanter World Wine Awards - Regional Trophy, Best in Show. Light reduction. Sweet but strong, and quiet in aroma./ Lush in front but with frame and strong tannin in the back. Young. 15.8+.
WT051816-12. 13 PRIMITIVO DI MANDURIA TERRA DEI TRULLI, PINNACOLI - (ITALY) 14%. Sweet and medium bodied, medium intense 13. Will gain with aeration and bottle age./ Sweet and roti but not overly strong. Flavorful and flowing. Palate nice and accommodating already; nose will catch up. 16.0+/16.2.
WT051816-13. 13 BRAZIN OLD VINE LODI ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 14.5%. Powerful, sweet, big Lodi without the syrup./ Yes, sweet raspberry, cocoa, and oak. Perfect Lodi. Usually is. 17.0.
WT051816-14. 13 FENN VALLEY LATE HARVEST FENNVILLE VIGNOLES - (U.S.) 11.3%; 5.3% RS. Oh, fabulous pineapple and lemon vignoles aromas./ Yes, sweet pineapple, astringent lemon peel, and great fruit acidity. The book on late harvest vignoles. Always special, this is its finest vintage to date. 18.2.

WT051116-1. 14 MACON-CHARNAY FRANCLIEU, JEAN MANCIAT - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13.5%. Full and resinous like a Chalonnais. One ample Macon../ Full texture, body, acid. A bit much for an aperitif. Apply with food. 16.2.
WT051116-2. 14 HERAULT BLANC PONT DE GASSAC, DAUMAS-GASSAC - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 12.5%; 25% each chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, grenache blanc, terret. Scented. More so than most of these varieties. Very aromatic citrus flair. I suppose that's sauvignon blanc./ Yes, unique citrus flavor traces. 16.3.
WT051116-3. 15 BARKER'S MARQUE THREE BROOMS SINGLE VINEYARD MARLBOROUGH SAUVIGNON BLANC - (NEW ZEALAND) 13%. Forceful, insistent, full of personality and surge./ Lots of textural spiel. Good juice. For food. Lingers. Lots of mouthfeel. 16.0.
WT051116-4. 15 TABOR HILL LAKE MICHIGAN SHORE DRY TRAMINETTE - (U.S.) 12%. Pungent and powdery. Good nasal texture, burnish. Powderpuff and barbershop aromas. Zesty./ Yes. This has full varietal character. Aeration really opens it up. 16.2.
WT051116-5. 15 COTES DU RHONE ROSE LE ROZE DE ZAZA, BOSQUET DES PAPES - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 13.5%. Apple and blossom fermentation residual. Then with aeration, forceful nose with berry and power./ Very full and well textured food rose. Take it into the fall. 16.2+.
WT051116-7. 14 CAHORS CUVEE DES HAUTS COTEAUX, LA TOUR DE CHATEAU CHAMBERT - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 13%; 70% malbec, 30% merlot. Sweet, with stewed fruit./ Rich, warm, powerful. The merlot? 14 acid give some relief, but overall this is a heavy hitter. Young. Tannic. 15.9+.
WT051116-8. 12 CHIANTI CLASSICO, ROCCA DI MONTEGROSSI - (ITALY) 13%; 90% sangiovese, 5% ea canaiolo, colorino; 12 months in Alliers oak. Bold, fabulous, great wood, richness. A noble Chianti Classico./ Rich and well textured with oak and suave fruit tannin. Modern and great. 16.9+.
WT051116-9. 14 BARBERA D'ASTI TASMORCAN, ELIO PERRONE - (ITALY) 14%; estate bottled. Full and true, with black cherry. Ample 14. Aroma, texture, bulk. Deep and broad./ Rich and spicy, peppery barbera. Full texture and range. 16.8+.
WT051116-10. 14 CARINENA TEMPRANILLO-GARNACHA-SYRAH LAS VALLES, BODEGAS PANIZA - (SPAIN) 13%; 40/40/20. Strong and dry on entry. Then sweet, ripe fruit wells up. Even-handed and easy./ Smooth and gentle with good sweet-acid balance and flow. Sweetly fruited aftertaste. 16.3.
WT051116-11. 13 FIELD STONE ALEXANDER VALLEY MERLOT - (U.S.) 13.5%; estate bottled. Uber ripe ALV. Jam, cooked cranberry, raspberry. Singed. Wood aura./ Ripe, sweet oak and fruit. All ALV all the way. Big wood and power impact. 16.4+.
WT051116-12. 14 TERRA D'ORO AMADOR ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 14.5%. Bold, sweet Amador zin with some 14 restraint and elegance. All around well balanced and aimed to please./ Yes, 14 fruit silkiness. Sweetness and oak well constrained, balanced. Fabulous balance. 16.7.
WT051116-13. 15 MULHEIMER SONNENLAY RIESLING ZEPPELIN, MAX FERD. RICHTER - (GERMANY) 9.5%; most popular wine on flights of the Graf Zeppelin dirigibles. Some sulphur on the surface still. Riesling beneath, and Mosel crispness. Give it aeration./ Less sulphur evident on the palate. Sweet and fruity. Great palate, acid-sweet balance, flavor. 16.4+.
WT051116-14. 12 CHATEAU PINEAU DU REY, SAUTERNES half bottle - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12.5%; second wine of 2me Grand Cru Chateau Filhot. Lightly sweet pineapple aroma. Filhot filigreed, delicate. Honey and citrus follow./ Very sweet, with good acid foil. Long aftertaste of honey, pineapple, citrus. 17.1+.
WT051116-15. 11 TAYLOR FLADGATE LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE PORTO - (FORTIFIED) 20%. Black and powerful and sweet and loaded with 2011 material. Singed, full, deep./ Yes, grip, force, fruit, and spirit all in harmony. Long, sweet finish. 18.4+.

WT050416-1. 14 CHABLIS, DOMAINE LIONEL BUSSY - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12.5%. Oh, a good and full one. 2014 rich apple and calcaire. One ample Chablis./ Yes, full fruit. Flavor and texture variegation. Well proportioned. Plenty of Chablis chardonnay terroir. 16.7+.
WT050416-2. 14 ALSACE PINOT BLANC TRADITION, BOTT FRERES - (FRANCE ALSACE) 12.5%. Pungent apple. Warmer-climate, riper apple take. Rich and big./ Yes, even baked apple. Glycerol. A nice and fat pinot blanc for pork. 16.3.
WT050416-3. 14 HAUT POITOU SAUVIGNON LE BOIS DE LA TOUR, VIGNERONS DE HAUT POITOU - (FRANCE LOIRE) 12.5%. Excess sulphur under screwcap masks much of the varietal character./ Some bell pepper comes out on the palate. This needs additional aeration. 12.0+.
WT050416-4. 15 CHATEAU BONNET, ENTRE DEUX MERS - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12.5%; 50% sauvignon blanc, 40% semillon, 10% muscadet. Full Entre Deux Mers sauvignon plus semillon body and muscadelle green melon. A rich vintage of this. Still some sulphur under screwcap./ Yes, sulphur scratch on the palate. Medium acid of a warm vintage. Closed at first, it blossoms on the finish, offering lots of apple and citrus. Decant for aeration of poured now. Or age a few months. 16.2+.
WT050416-5. 14 NIEDEROSTERREICH GELBER MUSKATELLER, WEINGUT HERMANN MOSER - (AUSTRIA) 11.5%. Tight, with some sulphur under screwcap. The varietal character is there, still suppressed. Remains subtle after aeration but begins to develop some depth. Cold cream note./ Green tropical fruits. Guava, lime, plus. Dry and tonic. All the varietal character I could want once it warms up on the palate. Will rival the 2013 in a few months. 16.9+.
WT050416-6. 15 COTES DU RHONE ROSE, DOMAINE LES APHILLANTHES - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 12.5%. Dry, and really quite full bodied for 12.5%. No fermentation residuals. Light berry aroma. Young. Will improve into the fall, as usual for this. Tingles the nostrils. Full aromatic beauty develops./ Still a little banana fermentation aspect. The warm vintage's relative soft acidity. Be patient. 16.2+.
WT050416-7. 14 CHIANTI, QUERCETO - (ITALY) 12.5%. Bold, rich, ample. Even powerful. Belies its moderate alcohol level. Ripe and dried fruit. And this from a cold, wet vintage!/ Good and full, and sweet fruited. A 14 with no shortcomings. 16.0+.
WT050416-8. 14 FRANCAIS LA CHAUSSYNETTE, MAS DE BOISLAUZON - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 13%. Beautiful fruit, fabulous spice range. None of the reduction it showed several months back. Patience rewarded. Brown spices./ A little tight on the palate still and showing this cool vintage's crisp acidity. Good grip. This will round out. The acidity would be welcome at the table now with the right accompaniments. 16.3+.
WT050416-9. 12 CAHORS MALBEC DU CLOS TRIGUEDINA, JEAN-LUC BALDES - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 13%. Ventilating nose of asphalt, medicine, menthol. Black fruited./ Full texture, tannin, material. No wallflower. Solid ager. 16.2+.
WT050416-10. 12 CANNONAU DI SARDEGNA COSTERA, ARGIOLAS - (ITALY) 14%. Hard, black fruited nose. Strong. Just a block at present./ Sweet but close to the vest. Short on aromatics at this stage. Age it. 15.6+.
WT050416-11. 09 PAGO CALZADILLA OPTA, BODEGA & VINEDOS URIBES MADERO - (SPAIN) 14.5%. Warm, ripe, powerful. Shows barrel aging. Dry./ Rich and warm and vinous and balanced. Vinous and large. 16.2+.
WT050416-12. 13 KULETO FROG PRINCE NAPA RED - (U.S.) 14.5%. Bold, sweet, powerful red that speaks of the warmer growing sectors of Napa County./ Wood vanilla in front. Powerful and generous. Needs time to gather depth. 16.4+.
WT050416-13. 14 THE FEDERALIST LODI ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 14.5%. Sweet and bold. Great Lodi zin display. Power packed. Large charge./ Yes, Lodi sweet fruited and generous. Good oak complement too. All one could want. 16.7.
WT050416-14. 14 RHEINGAU RIESLING, WEINKELLER ERBACH liter - (GERMANY) 10%. This still has excess sulphur under screwcap. Wet wool smell./ Sulphur suppressed. Bland and sweet; mild acid. Air and age. 14.0+.
WT050416-15. 14 MOSCATO D'ASTI, LUCCIO - (ITALY) 5.5%. Highly spicy and aromatic. Old Spice aroma./ Yes, sweet and spicy. Almost pandering. Seems made, not grown. A tasty tad though. 16.0.
