WT052913-07. 09 SULLIVAN RED INK NAPA VALLEY RED - (U.S.) 14.4%; 50% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 20% cabernet franc. Sweet, strong, intense nose. Napa elegance and class shows through./ Firmer and more backward than the 2007. Will soften and fill out over the next 1-2 years. 16.4+.

Good oak./ Powerful. Rich and full enough for present satisfaction. Will fill out and put on more weight over the coming months. 16.2+.

Intense, powerful, sweet, penetrating. Cran-raspberry Dry Creek Valley zin ID./ Sweet, oaky, not roasted like it sometimes is in a hotter year. Balanced, flavorful. Super vintage of this. 18.0+.

WT052913-11. 10 VALPOLICELLA RIPASSO SUPERIORE MARA, CESARI - (ITALY) 13.5%; aged in oak 6-12 months; Mara is the matriarch. Reduced, stinky./ Clearer palate but 2010 fluid. Requires patience and faith. 14.0.

WT052213-01. 12 VINHO VERDE FAMEGA, CAVES DA CERCA - (PORTUGAL) 10.5%. Appropriately spritzy. Apple aroma. And some banana fermentation residual yet. The froth hides some of the aroma at this stage./ Full and attractive primary fruit flavors. Some fermentation residuals. Better by 6/21. 16.0+.
WT052213-02. 12 VENEZIE PINOT GRIGIO LA MOTO, C. CAMPAGNA GELLO - (ITALY) 12%. Fresh, appley, full, good./ Rich and round. Positive acidity. Young and not yet fully revealing; sure to fill out further. 16.0+.
WT052213-04. 12 KIM CRAWFORD MARLBOROUGH SAUVIGNON BLANC - (NEW ZEALAND) 12.5%. Gooseberry and pink grapefruit. Another vivid 2012. Tingles./ Moderate acidity. Not as vivacious as the nose. Moderate flavor intensity. Crawford conservative and sweetish for broad market appeal. 16.5.
WT052213-05. 11 RECANATI GALILEE CHARDONNAY - (ISRAEL) 13%; kosher for passover. Good American oak and chardonnay apple-citrus./ Yes, plus creamy malo assets. Works all around. Best kosher chardonnay in memory. 16.6.
WT052213-06. 12 LANGHE NEBBIOLO ROSATO CHIARO DI LUNA, AA VALDINERA - (ITALY) 12.5%. Rich fruit perfume of nebbiolo cherry. Some fermentation residuals./ Full and lovely flavor range. Full acidity marks it ready for food. Vivacious. 16.6.
WT052213-07. 10 ALENTEJANO, SEMAPHORE 7 - (PORTUGAL) 13%. Oh, wow! Fresh, brisk, tonic, garrigue, spices./ Vivid spectrum of fruit, herb, and spice flavors. Even more giving that the fine 2009. Wow! Well liked by the group. 17.0.
WT052213-08. 10 TOSCANA SANGIOVESE, CAPARZO - (ITALY) 13.5%; 85% sangiovese, 5% each merlot, petit verdot, alicante. 2010 firm, dark, and a bit peelsy. Some sangiovess dried cherry and anise. Give it time./ Yeah, some green peels too. 2010 drawbacks. Will it sweeten up and flesh out? 14.4+.
WT052213-09. 12 CHAKANA MAIPE MENDOZA MALBEC - (ARGENTINA) 14%; grown at 3000 ft elevation. Strong, spicy, tarry, wholesome./ Sweet and spice. Some tannin to shed, but food will handle that. Wide appeal. 16.2+.
WT052213-10. 12 CALATAYUD GARNACHA HONORO VERA, BODEGAS ATECA - (SPANI) 14%. Sweet berry and spice. In tune with the 2009./ Yes, sweet and spicy and enticing. All about young Calatayud grenache. 16.4.
WT052213-11. 11 COTES DU RHONE VILLAGES CUVEE BEATRICE, DOMAINE DU VIEUX CHENE - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14%; all syrah. Good in this moderate temperature year. Less ruddy and powerful. Some green peels challenge the nostrils./ Yeah, it’s rather green and astringent. Maybe not so advantageous a vintage after all. Liked by the group though. Time? 15.8+.
WT052213-12. 11 KLINKER BRICK FARRAH LODI SYRAH - (U.S.) 14.9%. Sweet and spicy. Very fine and fulfilled 2011. Fabulous oak spices. Very sweet fruit for 2011./ Lovely, accomplished fruit ripeness and fine oak seasonings. Yes! 17.1.
WT052213-13. 11 VARNER FOXGLOVE PASO ROBLES ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 14.7%. Oak and tarragon. Cool and spicy. Raw red and black berries and currants./ Yes, raw red fruits as always in these Varner Paso reds. Marked difference from all the others. The opposite of ‘pruny’. Fine oak. Paso’s innate fruit sweetness comes through even in cool 2011. Another successful vintage of this. 16.6.
WT052213-14. 11 ALSACE GEWURZTRAMINER WOLFBERGER, VIGNERONS D’EGUISHEIM - (FRANCE ALSACE) 13%. Rich and bold, powerful gewurz from a southern village. Rose, ginger, ripe fruit emphasis./ Gewurz’s relatively mild acidity partially coated by varietal glycerol. Spicy, round, viscous, right. 17.0.
WT052213-15. TAYLOR FLADGATE FINE RUBY PORTO - (PORTUGAL) 20%. Sweet, young, and black fruity. Taylor build and power and grip of gob, even in its ruby. Total Taylor Ruby./ Yes, sweet, strong, saturated. Total Taylor. Surely one of the best ruby portos. 17.4.

WT051513-04. 11 FIRE ROAD MARLBOROUGH PINOT NOIR - (NEW ZEALAND) 13%. Yes, fresh and juicy. Lovely cherry dominant pinot./ Well, racy cherry taste with good acid. Lovely. A worthy successor to the fine 2010. 16.7.
WT051513-05. 10 BYRON SANTA BARBARA PINOT NOIR - (U.S.) 13.5%. Ripe and juicy. Good stuff. Cool. Nice oak spice and toffee./ Softer and spicier and sweeter than the Fire Road. More oak influence and 6 months’ more age. Superior to the 2009. 16.4.
WT051513-06. 10 COTES DU RHONE VIEILLES VIGNES, DOMAINE BERTHET-RAYNE - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 13.5%; 75% grenache, 15% cinsault, 10% syrah; EcoCert. Rich and full and spicy. Grenache sweetness and cinsault vigor. Deepest and richest vintage yet./ Racy as usual. Red fruits. Full.. Old vines concentration. Berthet acid. Fine tannin. 16.5+.
WT051513-07. 11 COTES DU RHONE CUVEE DES CAPUCINES, DOMAINE DU VIEUX CHENE - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14%; 90% grenache, 10% syrah; EcoCert. Firm and aromatic Capucines classic. Very pretty face as usual. More appealing in youth than the Haie aux Grives./ Peppercorn, garrigue, and sweet, smooth fruit. Fine now. Ready for dinner. 16.6+.
WT051513-08. 11 BARBERA D’ASTI MONTE COLOMBO E LA SERRA, MARCHESI DI GRESY - (ITALY) 14.5%. Fresh, young, and linear di Gresy styling. Cool, racy qualities of Asti and 2011. Runs deep too. Licorice laced./ Race and acidity, balance. Dark fruit, peels, licorice. 16.4+.
WT051513-09. 11 WOOP WOOP SOUTH AUSTRALIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON - (AUSTRALIA) 14.5%; ‘woop woop’ means ‘out there in the middle of nowhere’.Sweet black and red currants./ Again, sweet and sassy. Heart on sleeve. ‘Nuf said. 16.0.
WT051513-10. 10 SOBON ESTATE LUBENKO VINEYARD FIDDLETOWN ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 15.2%; vines planted around 1910. Sweet, roasted, vigorous. Big and oaky. The alcohol is cooling. Great oak contribution. Intense, old vines presentation./ Big American oak presence. Needs time to soak in. It’s not out of place with this wine though, and oak lovers will fancy it right now. Wow wine. 17.3+.
WT051513-11. 12 MOSCATO D’ASTI CASCINETTA, VIETTI - (ITALY) 5.5% Elegant, with green herbs as well as peach, apricot, and mango, giving it more dimension than many of its genre. Very fresh, lithe, well balanced./ Yes, sweet, creamy, well composed. A moscato star. 17.0.

WT050813-04. 12 MERRYVALE STARMONT NAPA VALLEY SAUVIGNON BLANC - (U.S.) 13.5%. Full and expressive as always. Gooseberry emphasis./ Yes, gooseberry, and grapefruit too. Moderate alcohol is welcome. Good acid. 16.5.
WT050813-05. 12 PRINCIPAUTE D’ORANGE ROSE, DOMAINE DE JANASSE - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 13.5%; 35% each grenache, syrah; 30% mourvedre. Lithe and berried. Crisp./ Typical. Nothing flashy. Just good, solid Med dry rose. 15.7.
WT050813-06. 11 BOURGUEIL LIEU DIT BEAUREGARD, CAVE DE BOURGUEIL - (FRANCE LOIRE) 12.5%; on gravel and sand. Fresh and fine and fruity. Plenty ripe. Classic, fresh Loire cabernet franc and especially Bourgueil character./ Rich enough, but a little backward still. Firm and well poised. 16.2.
WT050813-07. 11 CHATEAU PICAU PERNA, SAINT EMILION - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 13%; at St. Pey d’Armens. Ripe enough, and showing plenty of material./ Fluidity of the vintage but no lack of ripeness. Some wood and toffee. Good. So far, 2011 clarets have proven surprisingly satisfying. 16.1.
WT050813-08. 10 BOURGOGNE PINOT NOIR, COLLECTION ALAIN CORCIA - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%; ‘20010 Collectors’ Label’. Sweet. Both ripe and green cherries./ Tart cherry. Sleek and dry, with some tannin to shed. This will age well. Liked by the group; orders taken. 14.0+.
WT050813-09. 10 FORIS ROGUE VALLEY PINOT NOIR - (U.S.) 13%; since 1974. Medium color./ Light aroma. Not a patch on the 09./ Sweet enough cherry taste. Light oak. Not bad. 15.9.

WT050813-11. 11 BARBERA D’ASTI LA VILLA, TENUTA OLIM BAUDA - (ITALY) 14%; since 1961. Racy, tart black cherry. Real barbera character from a tart year. Full textured./ Oh, sweet fruit with light peels. Works for an 11 Asti barbera. 16.2.
WT050813-12. 11 COTES DU RHONE BELLERUCHE, M. CHAPOUTIER - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14%; 60% grenache, 40% syrah. Reduced as usual. Less so than 2010. Wasn’t that under screwcap?/ Cool reduction. Favorable, but not my style. Shows the hand of a northern Rhone winemaker. 15.1+.
WT050813-13. 11 COTES DU RHONE ‘FIG LABEL’, DOMAINE DE LA BASTIDE - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; 60% syrah, 20% each grenache, carignan; Gold Medal - Orange. Ripe but also reduced. Closed up, reduced, but ripe and well textured. Like at the Tasters Guild dinner, this is very satisfying with Pacific Rim fusion food and improves in the glass as it airs. 16.0+.
WT050813-14. 10 TERRA D’ORO HOME VINEYARD AMADOR ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 15.5%. Forceful. Sweet and roasted. Full of material and spirit./ Full, sweet, American oak character. What it is. 16.8.
WT050813-15. COLOMBO FINE SWEET MARSALA - (ITALY) 18%. Sweet but not sticky. Rather sophisticated, really, from wood aging. A ‘Fine’ oak aged marsala. A player./ Not hot and spiritous. Rather, mellow and refined. 16.8.

WT050113-01. 11 SOAVE CLASSICO, INAMA - (ITALY) 12%. Right and full Inama style. The emphasis is on body over aromatics. This really swells the nostrils./ Yes, a full bodied style of Soave. Take it to the table. 16.0.
WT050113-02. 11 CHATEAU FONTAINE LEELANAU PENINSULA CHARDONNAY - (U.S.) aged primarily in stainless steel, plus some in oak barrels for 8 months. Shows time in barrel and bottle. Flattering development./ Full, and well textured. Really fine mouthfeel. Impressive weight and mouthfilling capacity. Wow! 16.4.
WT050113-03. 09 BOURGOGNE CHARDONNAY, COLLECTION ALAIN CORCIA - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%. Very cool and crisp and fresh for its age and vintage style. Lovely satin texture. Lilting. Apple and melon aromas./ Flows nicely. Fresh indeed. No oak involvement. Stylish. 16.4.
WT050113-05. 11 PAVIA PINOT NOIR, CAVIT quarter bottle - (ITALY) 12%. Nice, light Pavia pinot styling./ Herbal, fresh, and typical. Like the Cesari, it’s very refreshing and summery in 2011. 15.0.
WT050113-06. 09 CAVE SPRING NIAGARA PENINSULA PINOT NOIR - (U.S.) 13%. Cool and real northern pinot with good oak. Will age nicely. Well crafted in a cool vintage./ Yeah, coolness and tart cherry expression. Real pinot. Good stuff. 16.3+.
WT050113-07. ESPANA TEMPERAMENTAL, RED DIAMOND - (SPAIN) 13.5%. Good acid and sweet fruit. Spanish styling. Ripe enough./ Rich and round, with sprightly acid. Well balanced and crafted. Nicely sweet-tart cuvee. 16.2.
WT050113-08. 10 MONTECUCCO, BEGNARDI - (ITALY) 13.5%. Oh, full, warm, savory southern Tuscan. One ripe and giving 2010. Dried fruits and nuts./ Yes, 2010 medium bodied, smooth, long in feel and flavor. Fine tannin. As good as the 09. Just right frame and oomph. 16.4.
WT050113-09. 09 VINO NOBILE DI MONTEPULCIANO TRE ROSE, TENIMENTI ANGELINI - (ITALY) 14.5%. Full and warm as Vino Nobiles go. Estate style. Good wood extracts and time in barrel suavity./ Rich and full. Sweet fruit and oak. Long in barrel evolution. True to the quality and craftsmanship of this estate. 17.2+.

Firm fruited, and showing light garrigue nuances./ Just arrived and youthful, so not giving up a lot of feel and flavor yet. Well liked by the group for its potential. 16.0+.
