WT072512-01. 05 TRENTO RISERVA TALENTO, ROTARI - (ITALY) 12.5%; 90% chardonnay, 10% pinot noir; 48 months en tirage. As usual in vintages of late, very grainy like a cava. Lacks finesse./ Sweetish. Odd for an Italian brut, which are usually drier than champagnes. Full bottle bouquet thatís grainy. 16.2.

One of the best./ Again, those subtle bittersweet fruit and flower tones. Lily, guava, persimmon. Wow! Best San Vincenzo ever? Certainly stands apart from a crowd of high-production Soaves. 17.0+.

WT072512-07. 10 RIOJA CUVEE KPF, MONTEBUENA - (SPAIN) 14%. Full, even powerful. 2010 brisk. Sweetness and depth too. Intense and plush fruit aroma core with 2010 fine framing./ Full. 2010 fruit tartness combined with fruit sweetness for that sweet-tart effect. May soften with bottle age. 16.0+.
WT072512-08. 10 VAUCLUSE. DOMAINE LA MONARDIERE - (FRANCE ) 13%; 80% grenache, 20% carignan. Crisp, purple, elegant. Subtle garrigue. Sweet berry fruit. A lot going on, all good./ Yeah, pleasing form and brightness; this is the right Monardiere stuff. Oodles of garrigue: peppercorns and herbs. Lovely. 16.6+.

Good acid for sure. A nuttiness suggestive of some botrytis on the scene. Yeah, really great acid and texture. 16.9+.

WT071812-09. 10 BOURGOGNE PINOT NOIR LAFORET, JOSEPH DROUHIN - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12.5%. Close and young. Still, it shows good pinot fruit./ Yes, Drouhin discretion and youthful reticence. Plenty fulfilled already though. Good fruit and form...and future. A really successful 2010. 16.3+.
WT071812-10. 09 RULLY MOLESME 1ER CRU, CHATEAU DE RULLY - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 11-14%. Warm, rich, full, nicely oaked. A complete Chalonnais rouge with premier cru importance./ Firm fruit of a young 09, gentle oak spice and nut and toast. Ripe and fine fruit core with 09 frame and racy fruit acidity. 17.0+.
WT071812-11. 10 TOSCANA REMOLE, FRESCOBALDI - (ITALY) 12.5%. Firm still, and 2010 reticent. With aeration, it shows aromatic variegation and depth. Sweet fruit and wood spices./ Leaner than the 09 at present due to youth and/or vintage nature. Again, aeration coaxes forth impressions of vigor, spice, depth of flavor. Very good now and will improve. 16.0+.

Some H2S to start. Then rich cold cream aromas. No issues./ Yes! Great gewurz bitterness, astringency, glycerol, flavor intensity. Everythingís fabulous and pushing Alsace. On of MIís best ever. 17.4+.

WT071112-01. 11 PETIT CHABLIS, ALAIN PAUTRE - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12%.A light aura of oak? Iím not sure. Good fruit ripeness./ Young. Has yet to form its third dimension. Just shipped, so it may need a couple of weeks to recover. Will fill out with bottle age. 16.2+.
WT071112-03. 11 VENEZIE PINOT GRIGIO, TIEFENBRUNNER - (ITALY) 12.5%. Oh! Fresh and cool. Snappy apple and peel. Full and right./ Very young, tight. A little astringent. No problem. Will fill out over the coming weeks and months. 16.2+.
WT071112-04. 10 CECCHETTI REDTREE CALIFORNIA PINOT GRIGIO - (U.S.) 12.5%. Good and fresh and full. Valid pinot gris personality. Good value./ California pinot gris softness. Flavor and texture gentle. Unassuming and decent. 15.3.
WT071112-05. 11 THE CROSSINGS AWATERE VALLEY SAUVIGNON BLANC - (NEW ZEALAND) 13%. Good cut. Good cat pee aroma./ Yeah, and good gooseberry flavor. This has all the right NZ sauvignon attributes. And it doesnít go overboard on the shrill stuff, like grapefruit. 16.3.
WT071112-06. 10 CECCHETTI REDTREE CALIFORNIA PINOT NOIR - (U.S.) 12.5%. Good, sweet pinot nose. Good value. Cherry, smoke, tea. 2010 crisp./ Medium bodied. Good flavor. A little 2010 astringency at the end. 16.0+.

WT071112-08. 10 CATALUNYA ULL DE LLEBRE, RAMON ROQUETA - (SPAIN) 13.5%; ull de llebre (eye of the rabbit) = tempranillo. Reduced, which is not unusual this vintage. Earthy, damp. Air and age./ Both bitterness and sweetness. Oak and fruit. Good acidity. Good palate. Nose needs time to resolve the reduction issue. 15.9+
WT071112-09. 10 CECCHETTI LINE 39 NORTH COAST PETITE SIRAH - (U.S.) 13.5%; the 39th parallel crosses southern Mendocino and Lake counties. Monolithic, as young pet wines can be. A block./ Sweet and appealing to taste though. Little in the way of aromatics coming forth yet. Which is typical of this varietal. Give it time. Good poise. 15.5+.
WT071112-10. 10 MAN VINTNERS COASTAL REGION CABERNET SAUVIGNON - (SOUTH AFRICA) 14%; named after the wives of the partners: Marie, Anette, and Nicky. Frank and firm. Grape peels extracts, alcohol warmth, smoke./ Oak woodiness and toast. Plenty of oak interest. No dekk issues. Pretty good stuff. 15.2.
WT071112-11. 10 FIRST PRESS NAPA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON - (U.S.) 14.5%; blackberry, cassis, mocha, black cherry, fig, dark chocolate. Bright, crisp, and cool...and also sweet and ripe. Napa finesse. A great 2010 cabernet./ Yes, both fruit and oak flavors in harmony. Fruit sweetness and 2010 crispness. Fine, fine berry essence. Fabulous range, balance, texture. Best 2010 cabernet
to date. 16.9+.
WT071112-12. 10 PALO ALTO RESERVE MAULE VALLEY RED - (CHILE) 13.5%; 60% cabernet sauvignon, 25% carmenere, 15% syrah. Some 2010 reduction to start. With aeration, the usual fine oak spiciness comes forth./ No reduction issues on the palate, which is no surprise. Good 2010 acidity. The usual Palo Alto sweet and spicy profile. Will continue to improve steadily for the next 12 months.
WT071112-13. 10 PRIORAT CAMINS DE PRIORAT, ALVARO PALACIOS - (SPAIN) 14.5%. Oh! Sweet and classy and right. Fabulous oak, spice, and fruit complex. Full elegance. Well bred. Loaded./ Fine 2010 acidity coated with sweet fruit and oak. Fabulous flow and balance. Yes! One of the best 2010 northern Spain reds Iíve tasted. 17.1+.
WT071112-14. 10 PRIORAT CAMINS DE PRIORAT, ALVARO PALACIOS - (SPAIN) 13.5%. 2010 brisk, with barbera edge and tang. Snappy black cherry barbera character./ Full and real barbera character. Sweet fruit and barbera glycerol balance the vintageís acidity. A food wine for sure. This works. 16.3+.
WT071112-16. 11 BOEKENHOUTSKLOOF THE WOLFTRAP WESTERN CAPE SYRAH-MOURVEDRE-VIOGNIER - (SOUTH AFRICA) 14.5%; aged in French oak. Cool and tart as usual. Mourvedre purple fruit emphasis lends a reductive air. Sweetness of syrah too. No viognier yet in sight./ Mourvedre purple and tart. What will age do? Not much come hither about it at this stage. 15.0+?

WT070412-01. 11 GAVI, BENI DI BATASIOLO - (ITALY) 12.5%. Very fresh. Plenty of youthful spritz and zestiness. The makings of a fine Gavi. Apple, pear, glycerol./ Full, with body, glycerol, flavor, and texture. Has it all. Long, complex aftertaste. A full-fledged, champion Gavi at a most reasonable price. 16.6+.
WT070412-02. 10 CHABLIS CHAMPS ROYAUX, WILLIAM FEVRE - (FRANCE) 12.5%. Full. Some smoky oak, I think (Iím easily fooled when it comes to unwooded chardonnay). Overall, the fruit and terroir command the most attention./ Very calcareous and right. Long and unique. Very chalky. 16.8+.
WT070412-03. 10 MACON LUGNY LES CHARMES, CAVE DE LUGNY - (FRANCE) 13%; single vineyard, old vines, estate bottled. Cool green apple and stone. Pure and right. Runs with the best of the longtime series./ Clear, pure, Maconnais medium bodied chardonnay approach. A very satisfying Macon Villages. Straight down the middle. 16.2+.
WT070412-04. 11 COTES CATALANES COTE EST, JEAN-MARC LAFAGE - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 13%; 50% grenache blanc and gris, 30% chardonnay, 20% marsanne. Fully scented as usual (how do they do it with these varietals?). Grenache gris smokiness. A complex of fruits, flowers, and grilled herbs./ Full aroma and texture ranges. Even bigger and more expressive than the 2010 despite its youth. More power too. 16.7+
WT070412-05. 11 CHATEAU STE. MICHELLE HORSE HEAVEN VINEYARD HORSE HEAVEN HILLS SAUVIGNON BLANC - (U.S.) 13%; ripe pear, honeysuckle, grapefruit. Fresh and vital. Yes, I get the grapefruit. No heaviness of age like former vintages that hit our market late. And not as much oak as there used to be. All for the good. Ripe and ready./ Rich in grapefruit pith. Fine acid. Suave. 16.8
WT070412-06. 11 MAIPE ANDEAN CULTURE SALTA TORRONTES - (ARGENTINA) 14.5%. Tight and sweet smelling. Young and still a little contrite. But itís all here, the varietal ID, the underlying smoldering perfumes./ Good gewurz facets of torrontes: the flavors, the glycerol, the bitterness. Yes, all here. Will blossom over the coming weeks, months. 16.4+.
WT070412-07. 10 VALPOLICELLA, ALLEGRINI - (ITALY) 13%. Fresh and fruity. Euro and right. I know Iíve tasted this before, but I didnít have a chance to take notes then. Now it all comes back, and with exactly the same brightness and novelty a year or more on. Picture perfect young Valpolicella./ Yes, juicy. Appropriately medium bodied. Delicious, flavorful. Finely balanced. Fresh and right. 16.8.
WT070412-08. 10 MAIPE ANDEAN CULTURE MENDOZA BONARDA - (ARGENTINA) 13%. Dark and sweet black fruit with bonarda floral airs coming forth with breathing. This is right./ Yes! Sweet fruit cremes. Cherry cordial and flowers. Great acid. Yes, indeed. 16.6+.
WT070412-09. 11 CHATEAU CAMPOT LAFONT, BORDEAUX - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 13%; 50% merlot, 25% each of the cabernets. Thisíll play. Sweet, black, and zesty. How do they do it every time?/ Yes, rich and ripe. Youthfully fruity and exuberant. Very appealing. 16.3+.
WT070412-10. 08 Z DE LUC THIENPONT, BORDEAUX - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 13%. Cool, dark, rightful 08. Some barrel aging richness and breadth and suavity. Some brett./ Good material here. Well extracted. 08 tannic and tight. Still a meanie. 15.9+.

Clean and straightforward honey nose to open./ More complex on the palate. Good varietal of honey flavorsĖherbs and blossoms. Right down the middle and wholesome. 16.0.
