Odd for an Italian brut, which are usually drier than champagnes. Full bottle bouquet thatís grainy. 16.2.

Very good now and will improve. 16.0+.

Air and age./ Both bitterness and sweetness. Oak and fruit. Good acidity. Good palate. Nose needs time to resolve the reduction issue. 15.9+

WT071112-09. 10 CECCHETTI LINE 39 NORTH COAST PETITE SIRAH - (U.S.) 13.5%; the 39th parallel crosses southern Mendocino and Lake counties. Monolithic, as young pet wines can be. A block./ Sweet and appealing to taste though. Little in the way of aromatics coming forth yet. Which is typical of this varietal. Give it time. Good poise. 15.5+.

Napa finesse. A great 2010 cabernet./ Yes, both fruit and oak flavors in harmony. Fruit sweetness and 2010 crispness. Fine, fine berry essence. Fabulous range, balance, texture. Best 2010 cabernet to date. 16.9+.

WT071112-12. 10 PALO ALTO RESERVE MAULE VALLEY RED - (CHILE) 13.5%; 60% cabernet sauvignon, 25% carmenere, 15% syrah. Some 2010 reduction to start. With aeration, the usual fine oak spiciness comes forth./ No reduction issues on the palate, which is no surprise. Good 2010 acidity. The usual Palo Alto sweet and spicy profile. Will continue to improve steadily for the next 12 months. 16.3+.

Loaded./ Fine 2010 acidity coated with sweet fruit and oak. Fabulous flow and balance. Yes! One of the best 2010 northern Spain reds Iíve tasted. 17.1+.

Mourvedre purple fruit emphasis lends a reductive air. Sweetness of syrah too. No viognier yet in sight./ Mourvedre purple and tart. What will age do? Not much come hither about it at this stage. 15.0+?

Apple, pear, glycerol./ Full, with body, glycerol, flavor, and texture. Has it all. Long, complex aftertaste. A full-fledged, champion Gavi at a most reasonable price. 16.6+.

WT070412-02. 10 CHABLIS CHAMPS ROYAUX, WILLIAM FEVRE - (FRANCE) 12.5%. Full. Some smoky oak, I think (Iím easily fooled when it comes to unwooded chardonnay). Overall, the fruit and terroir command the most attention./ Very calcareous and right. Long and unique. Very chalky. 16.8+.

Runs with the best of the longtime series./ Clear, pure, Maconnais medium bodied chardonnay approach. A very satisfying Macon Villages. Straight down the middle. 16.2+.

Fully scented as usual (how do they do it with these varietals?). Grenache gris smokiness. A complex of fruits, flowers, and grilled herbs./ Full aroma and texture ranges. Even bigger and more expressive than the 2010 despite its youth. More power too. 16.7+

No heaviness of age like former vintages that hit our market late. And not as much oak as there used to be. All for the good. Ripe and ready./ Rich in grapefruit pith. Fine acid. Suave. 16.8

Will blossom over the coming weeks, months. 16.4+.

Now it all comes back, and with exactly the same brightness and novelty a year or more on. Picture perfect young Valpolicella./ Yes, juicy. Appropriately medium bodied. Delicious, flavorful. Finely balanced. Fresh and right. 16.8.
