WT013013-01. 11 MUSCADET SEVRE ET MAINE SUR LIE, DOMAINE DE L’AURIERE - (FRANCE LOIRE) 11.5%. Real Muscadet in a style and at a price point for frequent and wide ranging service. Appropriately delicate varietal statement of green fruits and botanicals. Just the right sur lie measure to give the fruit the spotlight./ Fresh, with green apple and citrus. Just the right combo of body and flow, acidity and tenderness. Hits
the sweet spot. Well liked by the group. 16.4.
WT013013-02. 11 VOUVRAY, CHAMPALOU - (FRANCE LOIRE) 12.5%. Full quince expression plus overtones of lime and apple./ Full and juicy. Tingly and dry. The real deal in Vouvray sec. More-ish. Ideal. Lately, this just keeps getting better and better, drier and drier, with each new vintage. 17.0.
WT013013-03. 11 WHITEHAVEN WINEMAKER’S SELECT MARLBOROUGH SAUVIGNON BLANC - (NEW ZEALAND) 13%. Full, citrusy display, with an emphasis on orange./ Juicy citrus fruit. Ruby red grapefruit plus. Good body and flavor intensity. 16.6.
WT013013-04. 09 MACON VILLAGES, PAUL BOUCHARD - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%; founded 1894. Good, nutty mid age Macon package. I like this better now than at a trade show last summer. Shows real edge for 09./ Juicy and fresh. A good, versatile dinner wine this winter. Will carry on beyond. 16.3+.
WT013013-05. 10 BLACK STALLION ESTATE NAPA VALLEY CHARDONNAY - (U.S.) 14.5%. If you’re looking for the full bodied, powerful, fully oaked Napa chardonnay, this is your cup of strong tea, replete with tannin contributed by new oak../ Heavy oak vanillin and lignin. No aperitif. A big boy for hearty fare. 16.0.
WT013013-06. 10 MARSANNAY, LOUIS LATOUR - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%. Medium color intensity./ Valid northern Cote d’Or pinot if on light and lean side in youth./ Good sweetness and flavor interest on the palate. Still confined. Needs some bottle age to bulk up the fruit profile. 16.0+.
WT013013-07. 08 CHATEAU BONNET, BORDEAUX - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12.5%; half each merlot, cabernet sauvignon. Firm and quiet. Sweet fruited for 08. Dark and hearty./ Good 08 compact fruit with light oak touch. Solid cellar candidate. Well liked by the group. 16.0+.
WT013013-08. 09 CHATEAU HAUT QUEYRAN, MEDOC - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 13.5%; Demarchi at St. Germain d’Esteuil. Medoc cabernet stiff. Young and rightly poised./ Cabernet peels extract and tannin grip. Young and corseted. Air and age. 15.7+.
WT013013-09. 10 CHATEAU BEGADAN CUVEE TRADITION, CRU ARTISAN, MEDOC - (FRANCE BORDEAUS) 13.5%; Sallette at BegadAn. Stiff and dark 10 cabernet. Some barrel age dimension like the 09.. Yeah, this is sweeter and fruity than the Haut Queyran. But more backward than the 09 Begaden. I’m tasting it a little earlier in its life, and it follows the pattern of 10 vs 09 also.16.1++.
WT013013-10. 10 LANZARINI SEDIENTO MENDOZA MALBEC - BONARDA - (ARGENTINA) 13.5%. Ripe, sweet, enticing, open–thanks to the bonarda. Yeah, sweet, candied cherry of bonarda./ Very candied, with raspberry pastille purity and allure. Easy stuff. Great acid verve too. This has a lot of the properties of a Amarone from a revealing vintage like 07. 16.7+.
WT013013-11. 11 PIEMONTE BARBERA MATI, SCAGLIOLA - (ITALY) 13.5%. Tight and young. Right./ Sweet and soft and enticing. Who’da thunk from the nose. Varietally accurate and well balanced. Give the nose some air and age to help it reveal itself. 16.2+.
WT013013-12. 11 CHIANTI, FATTORIA DI FALTOGNANO - (ITALY) 13%. Full and ripe like the 08, but much less evolved, of course. Delivers sangiovese fruit expression with freshness, precision, edge, beauty./ Shows some wood spices too. For such a young age, this shows dexterity. Fruit and acid edge. Smoke and leather components that are complexing as they were in the 08. Sweet, bold, textured. 16.7+.
WT013013-13. 11 MORELLINO DI SCANSANO, MORIS FARMS - (ITALY) 13.5%. Classic sweet black cherry with 11 edge. Well framed, with sweet core fruit and plenty of positive peels interest./ Yeah, sweet and ripe, with great acid and fine tannin. Ho, hum. Just another winner here, this one with age potential. 16.7+.
WT013013-14. 04 TOSCANA JASSARTE, PODERE GUADO AL MELO - (ITALY) 13%; from 30 antique grape varieties. 18 months in oak. Good oak and vital, black, spicy fruit. Fine./ 04 firm build. Fabulous spice and oak ranges. Yes. 17.1+.
WT013013-15. 06 BOLGHERI, PODERE GUADO AL MELO - (ITALY) 13%; 80% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot; aged 12 months in barrique. Dark./ Very spicy oak and fruit. Deep and rich. Singed and variegated./ 06 dark and dense. Fabulous range and richness, texture, oak, and time in oak. Has it all. 18.0+.
WT013013-16. 11 ARTEZIN MENDOCINO ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 14.5%. Lean for this cuvee. Close./ But some sweet fruit and Mendocino rigor and form expressed. A weak vintage in this series and for most North Coast California reds, except the occasional pinot noir. Lacks the usual ripeness and intensity. 15.8+.
WT013013-17. 09 DOUGLASS HILL CALIFORNIA WHITE ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 11%. Mild, tame, understated nose./ Nice pink take of zin raspberry. Not at all tawny. Sweet, tasty, nice. 15.4.
WT013013-18. 11 WINKELER HASENSPRUNG RIESLING SPATLESE, H. KRAYER - (GERMANY) 9.5%. Sweet and golden orange and apricot characteristics of fine Rheingau riesling. Young and rightly poised./ Great acid verve, extract edge. Citrusy, sweet-tart play. The finish is lasting and spreading. 16.8+.

WT012313-01. 11 MICHEL-SCHLUMBERGER LA BISE BENCHLAND ESTATE DRY CREEK VALLEY PINOT BLANC - (U.S.) 12.9%. Full, strong, warm DCV styling even though it’s from the coolest section of the valley. Vinous./ Full bodied. Some woodiness. Lots of extract, grip, body, fullness, mouthfeel. 16.4.
WT012313-02. 10 BOURGOGNE CHARDONNAY, CHATEAU DE SAINT ROMAIN - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12.5%; aged 12 months in seasoned barrels. Fine light oak. Stony style of Saint Romain. Classic and well rendered./ Yeah, a vinous, stony, young classic. Fine burnish. Good future. Well liked by the group. 16.6+.
WT012313-03. 11 RUTHERFORD RANCH NAPA VALLEY CHARDONNAY - (U.S.) 13.5%. Full, fine oak graininess and crisp 2011 fruit. Nice and revealing./ Yes, citrus and oak in balance. Nothing overdone, out of synch. Plenty of oak and fruit flavors in harmony. Reminds me of the 2010 I sampled and enjoyed. Then it never arrived. This 2011 makes the wait worthwhile. Well liked by the group. 16.8.
WT012313-04. 10 LAFOND STA. RITA HILLS PINOT NOIR - (U.S.) 14.5%. Oh, boy! Big burst of crisp 2010 pinot cherry with Sta. Rita Hills intricacies, spicy vigor./ 2010 acidity and flow. This is right for the zone and vintage. Some pinot padding too. Long and clinging, with fine tannin and light oak on the aftertaste. 16.8+.
WT012313-05. 11 RIBERA DEL DUERO, BODEGAS BARCO DE PIEDRA - (SPAIN) 13.5%; estate bottled; vineyards at 2400-3200 feet elevation; all tempranillo; aged 4 months in French & American oak barrels. Lovely nut, caramel, and fruit cremes. Seductive. Balanced. What a come hither RDD!/ Maple, caramel, fruit cremes. Full allure. Wood spices too. No waitin’, no hesitatin’! 16.9.
WT012313-06. 11 CHIANTI CASTIGLIONI, FRESCOBALDI - (ITALY) 14%. Reduced to start. Like the 2010. Clears some with air but stays firm./ Yes, firm and narrow. Dry. Air and age. 14.0++.
WT012313-07. 10 CHIANTI CLASSICO, QUERCETO - (ITALY) 12.5%. 2010 crisp and clear. Greve lift and style. All proper. Sweetening up with aeration./ Nice sangiovese flavors of dried cherry and licorice. Light glycerol too. Not as full as the 09 and some of the other riper vintages. But it’s right, priced right, and mealworthy now. Well liked by the group. 16.3+.
WT012313-08. 06 PLAN DE DIEU COTES DU RHONE VILLAGES, DOMAINE DES PASQUIERS - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14%; gold medal - Avignon. Coming into full maturity. Getting a little nutty, raisined./ The appeal of a fully bouqueted wine. Liked by many in the group. 15.0-.
WT012313-09. 10 CHATEAU TANUNDA GRAND BAROSSA BAROSSA SHIRAZ - (AUSTRALIA) 14.5%; Australia’s oldest Chateau, site of the first vines planted in the Barossa (1845); aged 18 months in French oak. Loaded. As good as the 09, and younger. Rich, ripe Barossa fruit and warm, savory oak spices in balance. Nothing overdone, overstated, or out of proportion./ Yes, full savor, warmth, oak spices and sweet fruit. Coffee, caramel, and other
empyreumatic goodies. 17.0+.
WT012313-10. 10 CELLAR NO. 8 CALIFORNIA ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 14.5%; blackberry, spice, black cherry, black pepper, chocolate. Well, is this ever a best value for its richness, ripeness, power, and plentitude. Ripe raspberry and peppercorn. The complete upper Sonoma zinfandel package./ Yes, rich and powerful, dark, sweet, and thorough. Fabulous all around. And this is from a cool vintage! 16.8.
WT012313-11. 11 KREUZNACHER KRONENBERG RIESLING SPATLESE, ST. ANTONIUS - (GERMANY) 12%. Fine Kreuznach loam and spice set, and ripe apricot and orange fruit. Vital, vivid./ Very sweet for spatlese. I suspect it’s an auslese. Racy citrus tones too. Seville orange and peel. Wow! Great acid. Apricot aftertaste. Fabulous value. 17.0+.
WT012313-12. 12 DOUGLASS HILL CALIFORNIA MOSCATO - (U.S.) 10%. Whoa! Bright and forthcoming. Crisp and upbeat. Sweet and lively together./ Sweet, with full flavor intensity. Really clear and precise and pure varietal statement. Enough acid to keep it from cloying. What a deal, and what an introduction to the fine 2012 California vintage! 16.2.

WT011613-02. 11 RIVIERA LIGURE DI PONENTE PIGATO, DURIN - (ITALY) 12.5%. From steep, terraced vineyard of northwest Italy’s Ligurian coast and its rare, singular pigato grape variety. Super nose. Dry and minerally, with a unique range of orchard and tropical fruits, especially dried apricot and mango./ Full burst of fruit confirmation. Smooth textured, with good acid burnish for balance. Nothing else quite like it.
WT011613-03. 11 UMBRIA PINOT GRIGIO, STELLA - (ITALY) 12%. Fresh and right today, even after being open five days. Sings. Lots of crisp apple./ Relative lack of vivacity of southern grigio. Good value though. 15.0.
WT011613-04. 08 ALSACE PINOT GRIS, HELFRICH - (FRANCE ALSACE) 12.5%. Fat, full, waxy, appley, nutty. Full Alsace pinot gris delivery!/ Full...and stimulating as well. Showing better than ever. What mouthfeel! 17.0+.
WT011613-05. 12 KENWOOD SONOMA SAUVIGNON BLANC - (U.S.) 13.5%. Some mercaptan under screwcap. Zesty sauvignon blanc beneath. Good acid ring./ Yeah, sulphur flattens it for now Mild or coated acidity. Needs air. 15.5+.
WT011613-06. 11 VERMENTINO DI SARDEGNA VILLA SOLAIS, CANTINA SANTADI - (ITALY) 13.5%; from the southwest coast.. Dry and zingy. Not highly perfumed. A rightful aroma though, and likely good with food because of its low key aromatic nature./ Mineral, acid, grip. Understated. Some peach on the finish. 15.2.
WT011613-07. 11 CELLAR NO. 8 CALIFORNIA PINOT NOIR - (U.S.) 13.8%. Warm and peelsy. Tarry. Rather lean. All the same, it says pinot noir and has some pinot plumpness./ Real pinot personality. Relatively dilute this vintage. Moderate ripeness. 2011 undernourished. 14.8.
WT011613-08. 09 BOURGOGNE PINOT NOIR, LAROZE DE DROUHIN - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%. Nice, sweet, precise pinot cherry and anise, plus light oak toast and treacle. Good Burgundian earthy constitution too. Gevrey notions./ Medium bodied. Rich enough to satisfy. A quality representative of its appellation showing nice, light oak flair. Fine acidity. Straight down the middle. 16.7+.
WT011613-09. 11 MONTES CLASSIC COLCHAGUA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON - (CHILE) 14%; six months in French oak; caramel, cinnamon, candy, mint; Parker 90. Shows something of being open five days, but not to excess. Montes sweet and seductive fruit creme aroma plus toffee oak./ Exotic toffee, mocha, and coffee flavors. Great acid. Fine tannin. Works. 16.4.
WT011613-12. 10 SICILIA NERO D’AVOLA. RESONATA - (ITALY) 13%. Light and sweet cherry and anise. Right. And playful./ Sweet and innocent. Light hearted and flowing. Altogether too easy. 15.3.
WT011613-13. 10 NAVARRA GARNACHA ARTAZURI, BODEGAS ARTAZU - (SPAIN) 14%. Sweet and ripe grenache like something from a region farther south. Sweet, baked raspberry and strawberry. Fundamental grenache pleasures./ Racy as well as ripe. Great acid. Now Navarra talks. Terrific mouthfeel, balance. Bravo, Artazu! 16.6+.
WT011613-14. 09 CHATEAU KEFRAYA LES BRETECHES BEKAA VALLEY RED - (LEBANON) 13.5%; from unirrigated clay and limestone terraces at 1000 meters’ elevation; 66% cinsaut, 15% tempranillo, 10.5% syrah, 6% cabernet sauvignon, 2.5% carignan. Warm disposition. Not a lot of aroma profile to start. Some spices come though with aeration. Needs time./ Mainly vinous at this stage. Gently flowing texture. Needs more bottle aging
for aroma/flavor formation. 15.4+.

Fresh and vigorous. Fine, sweet 07 fruit. Understated oak and barrel age. Attractive American oak spiciness. The best vintage in several years./ Even handed. Nicely settled in, confident. Well managed oak, including a hint of American oak
coconut. Well balanced wine. 16.6+.
WT011613-16. 07 KUNDE ESTATE SONOMA VALLEY ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 14.5%; est. 1904; boysenberry, black pepper, anise, clove. Very jammy. Sweet and ripe 07 fruit. Cooked raspberry. Plus Sonoma Valley zinfandel cranberry. No much oak display on the nose./ Good set of oak spices on the palate though. Plus ripe and smooth fruit. 16.2.
WT011613-17. 11 WINKELER GUTENBERG RIESLING KABINETT HALBTROCKEN, H. KRAYER - (GERMANY) 10.5%; est. 1866. Fine structure, mineral, and Rheingau terroir. Seville orange. Runs deep./ Full and on the sweet side of halbtrocken...or the acidity is mild. Good extract. Good now. 16.4.

WT010913-02. 12 SANTA RITA 120 VALLE CENTRAL SAUVIGNON BLANC - (CHILE) 13.5%. Full thrust. Crisp play of lemon and mineral./ Lots of texture, citrus, mineral spiel. Very dry and tight laced. Sucks the moisture right out of my mouth. Very cleansing sauvignon made for food accompaniment. 16.3.
WT010913-03. 11 MACON VILLAGES, DOMAINE PASCAL & MIREILLE RENAUD - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%. Fabulous! No oak–doesn’t need it. Total nutty concentration. Even fuller, more extracted, more textured than the 2010./ Full body and texture. Flavor yet to form fully. What mouthfeel now though! Fine potential. 16.7+.
WT010913-04. 11 KENWOOD RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY PINOT NOIR - (U.S.) 13.5%. Rich and right RRV pinot largesse. Plenty ripe enough, even in stingy 2011. Sweet cherry, game. Real pinot noir./ Medium body and richness. Good balance and texture. Good acid-smooth components and proportions. Pleasing aftertaste, length. A worthy successor to the 2010. 16.7+.
WT010913-05. 09 CHATEAU DE GIRONVILLE, CRU BOURGEOIS, HAUT MEDOC - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 13.5%; @ Macau. Oh, good, sweet, caramelly oak of a modern Haut Medoc. Savory baking spices too. Ripe black fruit./ Fine contemporary claret measures of both oak and ripe fruit, plus good Bordeaux acidity and light astringency and tannin. Inspiring future. 16.9+.
WT010913-06. 10 AVALON CALIFORNIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON - (U.S.) 13.8%; aged 8+ months in French and American oak barrels. Yeah, good oak display plus ripe fruit marks this a bargain. Good warm black currant too. Fabulous ripeness considering the vintage. This rocks!/ Delivers good measures of succulence and range. Still contrite in youth; will expand over the coming weeks/months. Good job of winemaking here. 16.3+.
WT010913-07. 09 ECHEVERRIA RESERVA CURICO VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON - (CHILE) 14%; strawberry, blackberry, cherry, coffee, tobacco. Oh, bright and upbeat; great crispness. Black currant purity plus game and coffee./ Crisp, well balanced. Good oak component. Game, acid, fine tannin. Well composed. Will improve further. Good now with food. 16.7+.
WT010913-08. 10 COTES DU RHONE, DOMAINE DE COURON - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; @ Saint Marcel d’Ardeche. Fresh. Still a bit reduced, introverted. Crisp, northern Rhone Meridionale./ Still confined some to start. Opens as it warms in the mouth, displaying now strawberry, raspberry, and red currant. Genuine Ardeche race. A refreshing contrast from Vaucluse warmth and power. Wears its 14.5% alcohol level well. Very
popular with the group. 16.0++.
WT010913-09. 09 COTES DU RHONE, E. GUIGAL - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14%. Brilliant play of syrah berry influence of a northern Rhone winemaker. Plus garrigue and spice. One of the best in the series. Sweet nut frosting nuances...from oak? Deep berry and potpourri followup./ Guigal frame and build. Deep berry core and wood form. Young and potent. Long and lucid framboise aftertaste. 16.9+.
WT010913-10. 08 CANNONAU DI SARDEGNA RISERVA, SELLA & MOSCA - (ITALY)
14%; aged 2+ years in oak casks. Good oak toast and time in oak burnish. Firmer and younger than the 07 in its latter stages. 08 fruit darkness and solidity and fullness are superior marks of this vintage. The bouquet continues to build with aeration, now showing more fine oak and barrel-age sophistication./ Good 08 grip, frame, potential. Both wood spices and barrel-age development. Fine now and later. 16.9+.
WT010913-11. 10 BIERZO MENCIA, CUATRO PASOS - (SPAIN) 14%; from 80+ year old vines; aged 2 months in French and American oak barrels. Sweetly fruity style favored by the importer, Eric Solomon. Plus 2010 frame. Deep, black berries and toast and warm-spice oak contributions./ Deep, purple mencia berry fruit. Spicy, peppery oak. Vintage and varietal youthful tightness, acidity, tannin. No problem. Give it a few weeks/months.

Following aeration, there’s an explosion of aromatics, including cherry, black pepper, and other spices. 09 ease, fruit creme style./ Tight framed, with tannin and barbera grip. Good potential. Will accommodate food now. 16.4+.
WT010913-13. 11 PUGLIA NEGROAMARO LUCCARELLI, TERRE DI SAVA - (ITALY) 13.5%. Very fresh, youthful, bashful to start. Sweet and creme like on entry with amaro edge in back. Filling out, growing up with aeration./ All the right stuff for the future. Compact now, though not mean. It’s smooth textured, really. Give it six months. 16.3+.
WT010913-14. 10 RAVENSWOOD OLD VINE LODI ZINFANDEL - (U.S.) 14.5%. Lodi sweet, even syrupy (in a positive sense), all the while showing a dark core and good grip. The usual goodness and sweet, dark fruit of this cuvee./ Sweet and nutty. Concentrated and powerful. A big boy in all respects. Good Lodi vintage. 16.6.
WT010913-15. 11 VOUVRAY, NOEL BOUGRIER - (FRANCE LOIRE) 12%. Yes, real Vouvray chenin expression of apple, quince, lime, almond. Classic richness of top Vouvray demi sec tempered with calcaire raciness./ Semi sweet, with quince-like acidity to balance. Well proportioned, all around classic Vouvray demi sec at an excellent price. 16.8.
WT010913-16. 10 FORSTER STIFT RIESLING KABINETT TROCKEN, GEORG MOSBACHER - (GERMANY) 11.5%. Sweet fruit, statuesque form, full grip and extract. A Pfalz trocken classic, deep and long. Perfect pitch./ Peach and hazelnut. Yes, full extract and full concentration. Will age famously. 17.2+.
WT010913-17. 10 ALSACE GEWURZTRAMINER, ANDRE SCHERER - (FRANCE ALSACE) 13%. Scented, even perfumed. Delicate Scherer styling. Discreet notes of rose and basil. Light waxiness./ Good gewurz varietal concentration. Tonic, rose, glycerol, astringency. All the attributes well proportioned. Plump fruit and soft acidity of gewurz. 16.7+.
