WT083116-4. 15 VENEZIE PINOT GRIGIO GREGORIS, SOC. AGR. FATTORI - (ITALY) 12.5%. Full nose of apple and pear. Expresses largesse, even at 12.5%. Loaded./ Round, and not as sweetish as some previous vintages. Real oomph of 2015. 16.3.
WT083116-5. 15 MACON VILLAGES, DOMAINE PASCAL & MIREILLE RENAUD - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%. Full. Great form./ Impressive body, texture, and character of a superior vintage. Great acid. Will spread its peacock’s tail fully over the coming weeks. 16.4+.
WT083116-7. 15 CHATEAU DE BLAIGNAC, BORDEAUX SAUVIGNON - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12%. Zingy grapefruit and gooseberry. Vivid, racy./ Round savor of Bordeaux sauvignon and 2015. The 2014's palate was racier; this is richer...yet certainly not wanting for animation. 16.6.

WT083116-10. 14 BOURGOGNE PINOT NOIR, DOMAINE DUPRE - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%. 2014 austere to start. Very close. Correct vintage dryness. Good Burgundy pinot cherry forms after aeration./ A different story on the palate. Full and juicy and flavorful. Full and well textured. The palate satisfies already. The nose will catch up. 15.8/16.6.

Spicier, juicier. Sweet oak./ Sweet, warm fruit-oak combo without Barossa roast or syrup. McLaren like. Fine balance, measured input. 16.6.
WT083116-13. 13 DONATI PAICINES CLARET - (U.S. WEST COAST) 13.8%; cab sauv, merlot, cab franc, malbec, petit verdot; AVA 27 mi. east of Monterey. More power and concentration than the fruity and delicious 2012. In tune with the vintage. This is really large./ Yes, ripe, strong, insistent. Not as clarety as the 2012. More California. For food. 16.4.

WT082416-1. 15 PETIT CHABLIS, DOMAINE SEGUINOT BORDET - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12.5%. Oh, boy, this is really stimulating! It almost stings my nostril linings. A nose you can feel, for sure./ Yes, the full acid ring that my nose tipped off. Surprising for sunny 2015. Full of material extract too. 16.8.
WT082416-2. 15 CHABLIS, DOMAINE LONG-DEPAQUIT - (FRANCEE BURGUNDY) 12.5%. More of the fruitiness one would expect of 2015. And the greater volume and expansiveness of a Chablis versus a Petit Chablis. Deep aromas of aromatic apples and calcaire./ Definitely softer in 2015 than in 2014. Will play to a different set of tastes. 16.6.
WT082416-3. 15 GRAYSON CELLARS LOT 11 CALIFORNIA CHARDONNAY - (U.S. WEST COAST) 13.5%; California State Fair Wine Competition - 98/100. Bright apple aroma of the crisp, crunchy Granny Smith sort. A well balanced presentation, and, a delight./ More reticent than the nose to start. Then builds to caramel apple crescendo and highlights of wood toast and demerara sugar. Cleverly crafted, with an off dry finish. I can see the rating. 16.5.
WT082416-5. 15 STARMONT NAPA VALLEY SAUVIGNON BLANC - (U.S. WEST COAST) 13.5%. Bright lemon and grapefruit. Fully alert as usual./ Suave and gentle. A bit mild on the approach compared to the last three vintages. Rallies with a tangy citrus finish. 16.6.
WT082416-6. 15 COTES DE GASCOGNE GROS MANSENG - SAUVIGNON, ALAIN BRUMONT - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12.5%; 50-50. Gros manseng’s plump lemon custard meets sauvignon’s fresh lemon zest’s tangy foil. Harmonious and lovely whole./ Yes, the palate confirms that fine balance of plumpness and cut. Satisfying flavor intensity. 16.5.
WT082416-7. 15 LANGHE BIANCO DRAGON LUIGI BAUDANA; AZ. AGR. G. D. VAJRA - (ITALY) 13%; chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, riesling, nascetta. The aromatic profile remains understated but has progressed since a trade tasting in May./ Racy and rangy. Really great, zingy acidity. Impressive flavor range of this complex of varieties. This will get better and better as the weeks pass. 16.7+.
WT082416-8. 15 DR. KONSTANTIN FRANK FINGER LAKES RKATSITELI - (U.S. NEW YORK) 12.7%; est. 1962. Subtle aroma set recalls chenin blanc. Quince and lemon-lime. Fine, tingly nasal texture. Fresh, and spot on./ Juicy, racy, tasty. Total juiciness. Defines the varietal. 17.0.
WT082416-9. 11 BEAUNE EN GENET 1ER CRU, DOMAINE ARNOUX - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%. In a bit of a mid life trough, aromatically. Between fruit aroma of youth and sage bottle bouquet. That’s OK. The fruit is good and Beaune sweet, and the nose displays Cote de Beaune character that is the mark of this appellation’s wines./ Sweet and sassy harmony. Good acidity. Everything fits and works together well. Will improve through age seven, at least. 17.0+.
WT082416-10. 12 CAHORS, CHATEAU DU CAYROU - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12.5%. Very close and vinous 2012./ Again. A quiet stage, not unusual to SW France red wines of this vintage. Tart, tannic, mean Cahors black wine. Must be cellared. 14.5++.
WT082416-11. 14 TERRE DEGLI OSCI SANGIOVESE, DI MAJO NORANTE - (ITALY) 13%; from Molise; estate bottled. Sharp, young, and close 2014./ Tart and tight. Good tannin and texture. I like its future. 14.5++.
WT082416-12. 15 CHIANTI POGGIO VIGNOSO. AZ. AGR. PUGLIANO - (ITALY) 13.5%; 85% sangiovese, 10% canaiolo, 5% malvasia. From a riper year than 2014, this is actually firmer and less revealing than its predecessor. Might be due to travel and/or youth. I think we first tried the 2014 when it was a few months older. Light, sweet scent of malvasia comes on with aeration./ Oh, well now, the palate is a different story. Sweet fruited, flavorful, and rangy already. Impressive texture and flavor breadth. Good, cooling fruit acidity. 15.2+/16.5.
WT082416-13. 13 CHIANTI RUFINA RISERVA, RENZO MASI - (ITALY) 13.5%; 95% sangiovese, 5% colorino. Sweet enough and in tune with the series, if it hasn’t had time to spread its peacock’s tail yet./ Sweet fruited for 2013. A balanced taste set sporting bouquet, breadth, and softness earned from long barrel aging. This will pay out well. 16.4+/16.9+.
WT082416-14. 12 CARMIGNANO SANTA CRISTINA IN PILLI, AMBRA - (FORTIFIED) 14%; Estate bottled. 2012 firm and narrow to start. Builds depth, aroma, and richness with aeration. Fine sweet-acid balance. Soaring oak extras. Great fruit and oak finesse./ Oh, so juicy, complex, well balanced. Mighty impressive. 17.0+.
WT082416-15. CALATAYUD GARNACHA OLD VINES REAL DE ARAGON, PAGOS FAMILIA LANGA - (SPAIN) 14.5%. Sweet and concentrated, and not without acid etch./ Full of power, extract, material. Better than the fine 2010. A lot of wine for the money. 16.6.

WT081716-2. 13 CHATEAU TOUR LEOGNAN, PESSAC-LEOGNAN - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12.5%; 70% sauvignon, 30% semillon; Perrin @Ch. Carbonnieux. A strong strain of sauvignon verging on labrusca exotica. Like Carbonnieux itself./ Wow! Intense streaks of sauvignon and semillon. Big time asparagus, lemon curd, citrus peels, and soft, ripe tropical fruits. Unique and vigorous. 17.0+.
WT081716-3. 10 SAINT BRIS SAUVIGNON EXOGYRA VIRGULA, DOMAINE GOISOT - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12.7%. I feared for the worse at this age, but quelle surprise! Still plenty of sweet fruit vigor. Meyer lemon, orange./ Crisp and vigorous. Great acid for food. Still works for me. 16.4.
WT081716-4. 12 SAINT BRIS FIE GRIS CORPS DE GARDE, DOMAINE GOISOT - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12.7%. Fresher. Bright and clear Saint Bris sauvignon fie gris citrus and nut expression. This works too./ Full presence, body. Another versatile meal time sauvignon. 16.6.

WT081716-7. 14 CHATEAU DUTRUCH GRAND POUJEAUX, CRU BOURGEOIS, MOULIS - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 13%; 51% merlot, 42% cab sauv, 4% petit verdot, 3% cab franc. Youthful, tightly coiled, like the 2012 was at this stage. 14 elegance peeking through. A pure black fruit statement./ Young Moulis close. 2014 black, pure, elegant. Solid cellar candidate. Popular with the group; orders taken. 16.6++.

Merlot’s the right variety for inland Moulis clay soil. Light and pleasing oak patina./ Attractive oak confirmed. Sweet, ripe fruit of 2009. Light tannin residual. Coming into its prime. Favorable comments from the group. 16.8+.
WT081716-9. 15 PARKER STATION MONTEREY-SAN LUIS OBISPO-SANTA BARBARA PINOT NOIR - (U.S. WEST COAST) 13.8%; 54-29-17; Fess Parker family. Culture shock. Sweet pinot cherry fruit up front, pleasing oak in harmony. Central Coast crispness./ Fruit sweetness nicely balanced by cool Central Coast acidity. 16.0.
WT081716-10. 14 MAN FAMILY BOSSTOK COASTAL REGION PINOTAGE - (SOUTH AFRICA) 14%; bosstok = untrellised bush vines. Impressively hearty, bold, bulky. Just a hint of dekk. An attractive oak aura./ This is full. Great body. Impressive balance of bulk and tart acidity. At this price, has it all. Better than the pleasing 2013. Complete pinotage. 16.8.
WT081716-11. 14 BELLE AMBIANCE CALIFORNIA CABERNET SAUVIGNON - (U.S. WEST COAST) 13%; by the Indelicato family. Sweet blackberry and black currant. What the market wants./ Sweet and fulfilled, ‘modern’ cabernet. Very appealing, well tuned to today’s tastes. Acidity balances the modest residual sweetness. 16.1.
WT081716-12. 14 COLUMBIA CREST H3 HORSE HEAVEN HILLS CABERNET SAUVIGNON - (U.S. WEST COAST) 14.5%. Deep, and surprisingly reductive for this range. Air it. 2014 elegance./ Oak vanilla and brown spices. Reduction. Pac NW acid. Clear alcohol. Splayed for now, I suspect it will age to harmony. 16.2+.
WT081716-13. 13 GALIL MOUNTAIN UPPER GALILEE CABERNET SAUVIGNON - (KOSHER) 15%. Ripe and powerful, pushing roti. From grape ripeness, not pasteurization./ Very large, strong, ripe, sweet. Light gaminess. What it is. 16.4.
WT081716-14. 11 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE, LA BASTIDE SAINT DOMINIQUE - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 15%. Powerful indeed, especially for 2011. Raw power. Stings my nostril linings./ Medium to full bodied. On the palate, wears its alcohol well. In something of a trough, development-wise. I’d cellar it at least a couple of years longer. 16.5+.
WT081716-15. 06 MAURY VIN DOUX NATUREL, DOMAINE DE BLANES - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 16.5%. Developing a mature bouquet of dried berry, prune, nut. Modest in alcohol and sweetness compared to its peers./ The palate shows more oomph. Plenty sweet and strong, in balance. Well-bouqueted aftertaste. 16.7.
WT081716-16. 13 SEAN MINOR H. MYNORS LODI ZINFANDEL - (U.S. WEST COAST) 15%. Richer and spicier than on previous occasions. Spiced plum./ Sweet and full. Carries its alcohol well. 16.8.

WT081016-1. 15 RUEDA VERDEJO, MARQUES DE CACERES - (SPAIN) 13.5%. Sulphur under screwcap. With aeration, the curtains part, and verdejo's sauvignon like citrus comes forth./ Some sulphur scratch, but even without further aeration, the varietal character is evident. Still some fermentation hops taste. The group enjoyed this after extensive aeration. 14.0+.
WT081016-2. 14 TAUB FAMILY HERITANCE NAPA VALLEY SAUVIGNON BLANC - (WEST COAST U.S.) 14.2%. For a Napa Valley sauvignon blanc, this is pretty straight forward and unexpressive. Age further? Good grassy taste, good acid, mouthfeel. The palate declares it a good value. 15.0/16.4.
WT081016-3. 15 MONTAGNY LA GRANDE ROCHE 1ER CRU, LOUIS LATOUR - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%. Full of fine fruit, Chalonnais resin, well imparted oak. Great richness and composition. Fabulous nose./ Again, full flavor, texture, suavity, balance. The group was impressed with both the quality and the value. 16.8+.
WT081016-4. 15 MARTIN RAY RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY CHARDONNAY - (WEST COAST U.S.) 13.8%. Open knit and more explicitly oaky. A well crafted mix of malo and no malo components. Abundant. Keeps pushing forth with greater stamina as it breathes./ Yes, full, good power, adequate acidity. At first, there seems less volume and texture than previous recent vintages, but we're tasting it earlier. And as it airs, it becomes lusher. Indeed, complete. The group agreed. 16.8+.
WT081016-5. 15 SALENTO NEGROAMARO ROSE CALAFURIA, TORMARESCA - (ROSE) 12%. Fresh, full, even a little frothy. Still some banana fermentation residual./ Straight forward, well balanced, pleasing acidity, dryness. Liked by the group. 15.6+.
WT081016-6. 14 ROSSO CONERO AION, AZ. AGR. ALESSANDRO MORODER - (ITALY) 12.5%. Full and power packed for the amount of alcohol. Tarry, forceful./ Yes, real push balanced by berry elegance and good acidity. Turns out joyful on afterthought. A great and classic Conero palate. Appreciated by the group. 16.3/16.7.
WT081016-7. 14 VENEZIE CABALETTA, TENUTE FIOREBELLI - (ITALY) 13%; corvina and cabernet. Starts out 2014 tart and tight. Opens and broadens with air./ Yes, becomes full and mellow. Balance of acid and suavity. An altogether attractive mealtime wine. Enjoyed by the group. 16.0/16.6.
WT081016-8. 14 BOURGOGNE PINOT NOIR, LOUIS LATOUR - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%. Close, if clearly rich in potential. Reduced, suppressed./ Yes, only two dimensional at this stage. Closed fist. Not bland and glossy like the old Latour rouges though. The group respected it for its potential. 14.0++.
WT081016-9. 12 BOURGOGNE HAUTES COTES DE BEAUNE PINOT NOIR, CHATEAU DE MERCEY - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 11-14%. Some rusticity of a Hautes Cotes pinot. Sweet fruit, with hint of bouquet formation. Dry and quite powerful./ Dry, suave and good. At a betwixt and between stage of development. 15.9+.
WT081016-10. 14 ALTOS LAS HORMIGAS CLASICO MENDOZA MALBEC - (ARGENTINA) 13%. Powerful, sweet, and well balanced presentation. Less elegance and spiel than the 2013 showed a few months back. That will likely come. Really penetrating nasal experience./ Oh, well now, here's the range, the elegance, the fine oak, and racy acid all on display already in the mouth. Another good vintage of this. 16.3.
WT081016-11. 14 SEGAL'S FUSION GALILEE HEIGHTS RED - (LEBANON) 13%; 60% merlot, 20% each cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon. Fruity, with a fine balance between sweetness and power. A really pleasing, harmonious nose./ Yes, suave, juicy, well assembled. 16.3.
WT081016-12. 14 COCOBON VINEYARDS CALIFORNIA RED - (WEST COAST U.S.) 13.5%. Strong, and rather sweet and frank. Uncomplicated./ Yes, it's sweet, likely doctored with mega purple. Nonetheless, well balanced and delish. It pleases me. The group was less amused. 16.0.
WT081016-13. 14 COTES DU RHONE RESERVE, CHATEAU MONT-REDON - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 13.5%. Strong and tarry, but not without Mont Redon elegance. For cool 2014, this is a powerhouse./ Frank and powerful. Two dimensional only; lacks depth at this stage. I wonder if it will gain it. Not the best vintage of this. There were compliments aplenty though. 15.5+.
WT081016-14. 15 CASTILLA TEMPRANILLO VENTA MORALES, FINCA LAS CRUCES - (SPAIN) 14%. Sweet and rich southern tempranillo. Typical of the series. Certainly giving./ Sweetness and strength in balance. Worthy value, so we all thought. 16.3.
WT081016-15. 13 MERLER KLOSTERBERG RIESLING KABINETT, WEINGUT EDUARD KROTH - (GERMANY) 7.5%. Full Mosel riesling character and texture. Just a little H2S yet to resolve. Approaching age three and showing no sign of resin yet./ Yes, Mosel race. Extract buffers the sweetness, so it's harmonious in the mouth. No evergreen. Best vintage of this I've tasted. 16.7.

WT080316-1. 15 MUSCADET SEVRE ET MAINE SUR LIE DOMAINE DE LA GRENAUDIERE, OLLIVER - (FRANCE LOIRE) 12%.Full, and perfectly formed. Fresh citrus and lees extras./ Yes, full indeed. Very juicy. Spot on. I mean, at this price it’s a no-brainer. 16.9.
WT080316-2. 15 VENEZIE PINOT GRIGIO, TIZIANO - (ITALY) 12%.Reticent at first but building body and interest as it airs./ Yes, both rich and racy, plush and tingly. Attractive light fizz. A quaffer. I can see the popularity. 16.4.
WT080316-3. 15 CHATEAU STE. MICHELLE COLUMBIA VALLEY PINOT GRIS - (WEST COAST U.S..) 13.5%; est; 1967; 100% vinifera rootstock. Clean and clear varietal apple and nut./ The extra alcohol renders is fuller, warmer, and more powerful than the Tiziano. Good lees influence. This needs food. 16.0.
WT080316-4. 15 GAILLAC MAUZAC, LIONEL OSMIN - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12.5%. Good fullness, richness, nasal texture. Appley like a chardonnay./ Some sulphur scratch detracts from its pleasures on the palate. That will pass. Vinous, full, cool. 16.0+.
WT080316-5. 15 VENEZIA GIULIA SAUVIGNON, DI LENARDO - (ITALY) 12.5%; estate bottled; est. 1878. Extreme citrus and tropical fruit perfumes. Deep penetrating. Dynamite./ Juicy. Buoyant, insistent citricity and steamy, tropical fruit and flower flavors. Total varietal character and acidity. Yow! 17.1.
WT080316-6. 15 FRANCAIS NEGRETTE ROSE VILLA LA VIE EN ROSE, LIONEL OSMIN - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12.5%; from Fronton, north of Toulouse. Lipstick, apple, acetate./ Some fermentation residuals yet. Give it more bottle age. 15.3+.
WT080316-7. 15 CHINON. JEAN-MAURICE RAFFAULT - (FRANCE LOIRE) 12.5%; est. 1693. Licorice, tar, briar, raspberry. Real Loire cabernet franc./ Tart, tarry, concentrated. Eschews the warmth and ripeness of the vintage. This is Euro. 16.1+.
WT080316-8. 14 FRANCAIS EKIGAINA, LIONEL OSMIN - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12.5%. Subtle, deep, scented of violets. Dry and nebbiolo like./ Smooth and peppery on the palate. More vinous than fruity at this stage. 16.1+.
WT080316-9. 15 COMTE TOLOSAN PRUNELARD, LIONEL OSMIN - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 13%. Riper. From a warmer vintage. Nothing ‘pruny’ about it though. Rich, deep, youthful./ Rich and rangy in texture and ripe fruit flavors. Good value. 16.4.
WT080316-10. 14 COTES DU MARMANDAIS ABOURIOU, LIONEL OSMIN - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 13.5%. I like this best of the set of three from obscure SW France varietals. I enjoy the fuller body and strength./ Softer, fuller, rounder. 16.5.
WT080316-11. 14 CHATEAU SAUMAN, COTES DE BOURG - (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 13.5%. Rich and ripe as well as fresh and well balanced. The complete Bourg picture as always here./ Oh, yeah, rich and racy. Vibrant even this vintage. Textbook Bourg. A fabulous 2014 value. 16.6+.
