WT082416-1. 15 PETIT CHABLIS, DOMAINE SEGUINOT BORDET - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12.5%. Oh, boy, this is really stimulating! It almost stings my nostril linings. A nose you can feel, for sure./ Yes, the full acid ring that my nose tipped off. Surprising for sunny 2015. Full of material extract too. 16.8.

WT082416-2. 15 CHABLIS, DOMAINE LONG-DEPAQUIT - (FRANCEE BURGUNDY) 12.5%. More of the fruitiness one would expect of 2015. And the greater volume and expansiveness of a Chablis versus a Petit Chablis. Deep aromas of aromatic apples and calcaire./ Definitely softer in 2015 than in 2014. Will play to a different set of tastes. 16.6.

A well balanced presentation, and, a delight./ More reticent than the nose to start. Then builds to caramel apple crescendo and highlights of wood toast and demerara sugar. Cleverly crafted, with an off dry finish. I can see the rating. 16.5.

Harmonious and lovely whole./ Yes, the palate confirms that fine balance of plumpness and cut. Satisfying flavor intensity. 16.5.

The aromatic profile remains understated but has progressed since a trade tasting in May./ Racy and rangy. Really great, zingy acidity. Impressive flavor range of this complex of varieties. This will get better and better as the weeks pass. 16.7+.

WT082416-8. 15 DR. KONSTANTIN FRANK FINGER LAKES RKATSITELI - (U.S. NEW YORK) 12.7%; est. 1962. Subtle aroma set recalls chenin blanc. Quince and lemon-lime. Fine, tingly nasal texture. Fresh, and spot on./ Juicy, racy, tasty. Total juiciness. Defines the varietal. 17.0.

WT082416-9. 11 BEAUNE EN GENET 1ER CRU, DOMAINE ARNOUX - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%. In a bit of a mid life trough, aromatically. Between fruit aroma of youth and sage bottle bouquet. That’s OK. The fruit is good and Beaune sweet, and the nose displays Cote de Beaune character that is the mark of this appellation’s wines./ Sweet and sassy harmony. Good acidity. Everything fits and works together well. Will improve through age seven, at least. 17.0+.

WT082416-11. 14 TERRE DEGLI OSCI SANGIOVESE, DI MAJO NORANTE - (ITALY) 13%; from Molise; estate bottled. Sharp, young, and close 2014./ Tart and tight. Good tannin and texture. I like its future. 14.5++.

WT082416-12. 15 CHIANTI POGGIO VIGNOSO. AZ. AGR. PUGLIANO - (ITALY) 13.5%; 85% sangiovese, 10% canaiolo, 5% malvasia. From a riper year than 2014, this is actually firmer and less revealing than its predecessor. Might be due to travel and/or youth. I think we first tried the 2014 when it was a few months older. Light, sweet scent of malvasia comes on with aeration./ Oh, well now, the palate is a different story. Sweet fruited, flavorful, and rangy already. Impressive texture and flavor breadth. Good, cooling fruit acidity. 15.2+/16.5.

WT082416-13. 13 CHIANTI RUFINA RISERVA, RENZO MASI - (ITALY) 13.5%; 95% sangiovese, 5% colorino. Sweet enough and in tune with the series, if it hasn’t had time to spread its peacock’s tail yet./ Sweet fruited for 2013. A balanced taste set sporting bouquet, breadth, and softness earned from long barrel aging. This will pay out well. 16.4+/16.9+.

WT082416-14. 12 CARMIGNANO SANTA CRISTINA IN PILLI, AMBRA - (FORTIFIED) 14%; Estate bottled. 2012 firm and narrow to start. Builds depth, aroma, and richness with aeration. Fine sweet-acid balance. Soaring oak extras. Great fruit and oak finesse./ Oh, so juicy, complex, well balanced. Mighty impressive. 17.0+.

Like Carbonnieux itself./ Wow! Intense streaks of sauvignon and semillon. Big time asparagus, lemon curd, citrus peels, and soft, ripe tropical fruits. Unique and vigorous. 17.0+.

Merlot’s the right variety for inland Moulis clay soil. Light and pleasing oak patina./ Attractive oak confirmed. Sweet, ripe fruit of 2009. Light tannin residual. Coming into its prime. Favorable comments from the group. 16.8+.

An attractive oak aura./ This is full. Great body. Impressive balance of bulk and tart acidity. At this price, has it all. Better than the pleasing 2013. Complete pinotage. 16.8.

WT081716-14. 11 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE, LA BASTIDE SAINT DOMINIQUE - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 15%. Powerful indeed, especially for 2011. Raw power. Stings my nostril linings./ Medium to full bodied. On the palate, wears its alcohol well. In something of a trough, development-wise. I’d cellar it at least a couple of years longer. 16.5+.

Modest in alcohol and sweetness compared to its peers./ The palate shows more oomph. Plenty sweet and strong, in balance. Well-bouqueted aftertaste. 16.7.

WT081016-1. 15 RUEDA VERDEJO, MARQUES DE CACERES - (SPAIN) 13.5%. Sulphur under screwcap. With aeration, the curtains part, and verdejo's sauvignon like citrus comes forth./ Some sulphur scratch, but even without further aeration, the varietal character is evident. Still some fermentation hops taste. The group enjoyed this after extensive aeration. 14.0+.

WT081016-2. 14 TAUB FAMILY HERITANCE NAPA VALLEY SAUVIGNON BLANC - (WEST COAST U.S.) 14.2%. For a Napa Valley sauvignon blanc, this is pretty straight forward and unexpressive. Age further? Good grassy taste, good acid, mouthfeel. The palate declares it a good value. 15.0/16.4.

WT081016-3. 15 MONTAGNY LA GRANDE ROCHE 1ER CRU, LOUIS LATOUR - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%. Full of fine fruit, Chalonnais resin, well imparted oak. Great richness and composition. Fabulous nose./ Again, full flavor, texture, suavity, balance. The group was impressed with both the quality and the value. 16.8+.

WT081016-4. 15 MARTIN RAY RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY CHARDONNAY - (WEST COAST U.S.) 13.8%. Open knit and more explicitly oaky. A well crafted mix of malo and no malo components. Abundant. Keeps pushing forth with greater stamina as it breathes./ Yes, full, good power, adequate acidity. At first, there seems less volume and texture than previous recent vintages, but we're tasting it earlier. And as it airs, it becomes lusher. Indeed, complete. The group agreed. 16.8+.

Tarry, forceful./ Yes, real push balanced by berry elegance and good acidity. Turns out joyful on afterthought. A great and classic Conero palate. Appreciated by the group. 16.3/16.7.

WT081016-9. 12 BOURGOGNE HAUTES COTES DE BEAUNE PINOT NOIR, CHATEAU DE MERCEY - (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 11-14%. Some rusticity of a Hautes Cotes pinot. Sweet fruit, with hint of bouquet formation. Dry and quite powerful./ Dry, suave and good. At a betwixt and between stage of development. 15.9+.

WT081016-10. 14 ALTOS LAS HORMIGAS CLASICO MENDOZA MALBEC - (ARGENTINA) 13%. Powerful, sweet, and well balanced presentation. Less elegance and spiel than the 2013 showed a few months back. That will likely come. Really penetrating nasal experience./ Oh, well now, here's the range, the elegance, the fine oak, and racy acid all on display already in the mouth. Another good vintage of this. 16.3.

WT081016-13. 14 COTES DU RHONE RESERVE, CHATEAU MONT-REDON - (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 13.5%. Strong and tarry, but not without Mont Redon elegance. For cool 2014, this is a powerhouse./ Frank and powerful. Two dimensional only; lacks depth at this stage. I wonder if it will gain it. Not the best vintage of this. There were compliments aplenty though. 15.5+.

Approaching age three and showing no sign of resin yet./ Yes, Mosel race. Extract buffers the sweetness, so it's harmonious in the mouth. No evergreen. Best vintage of this I've tasted. 16.7.
