07/29/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BORDEAUX ROSE) 13.5%. Ah, that's good grenache rose, full of strawberry and raspberry aromas. With Gard coolness and moderation./ Flavorful. Still with some fermentation astringency. Will blossom a few weeks from now. Good value. The group enjoyed this a couple of hours later, and made no commentary regarding astringency. The powers of aeration! 16.2+

(WT072920-06) 16 CHATEAU VRAI CAILLOU, BORDEAUX SUPERIEUR  $11.99
07/29/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12.5%; at Soussac in eastern Entre Deux Mers; 60% merlot, 20% ea cab sauv, cab franc. A tad 2016 reduced. That clears; it opens up to a sweet, albeit measured, 2016 claret style. Yes, this is correct; tres 2016./ Reads 2016 on the palate too. Balanced, well tailored, finely tannic, and maintaining a certain austerity that promises well for its future. Good value. 16.3+.

(WT072920-07) 18 MEDITERRANEE CICADA, CHANTE CIGALE  $10.99
07/29/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.1%; 80% grenache, 20% carignan; by a Chateauneuf du Pape estate. Nice and peppery like the 2015. I wasn't as crazy about the 2016. I think the carignan is a player here./ Sweet fruited. Good flow too. Well crafted cuvee. Long and flavorful finish. This satisfies. 16.2.

(WT072920-11) 16 VACQUEYRAS CUVEE CLASSIQUE, DOMAINE LE COUROULU  $21.99
07/29/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; 65% grenache, 25% syrah, 10% mourvedre. There it is: that skillful balance of 2016 reduction and the always broad and complex aromatic spread of this wine. Wish I had time to air this more./ All makes sense. Vintage and domaine styles. Preferred the ripeness of the 2015. But let's give this one a chance. It's never failed me. 16.3+.

(WT072920-12) 18 GIGONDAS, DOMAINE DES PASQUIERS  $26.99
07/29/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; 75% grenache, 20% syrah, 5% mourvedre. Well, this has gone up three bucks thanks to the 10/19 Trump tariff, but, I'll tell you, it's worth three bucks more than the previous vintage, which was a good one. This is much more lavish, much more Gigondas loaded./ Yeah, it still has the race and dryness of Pasquiers, but it's much more fruit laden than previous vintages. Bravo! Well liked by the group. 17.1+.
