(WT123020-01) JO LANDRON ATMOSPHERES LOIRE METHODE TRADITIONELLE DRY  $17.99
12/30/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANC E LOIRE) 12%; by a Muscadet winegrower; 90% folle blanche (gros plan t), 10% pinot noir; 12 months en tirage. Dry, bare bones Loire Maritime folle blanche nose. Hint of fattening pinot noir. Little or no lees autolysis contribution./ Well, there's admirable, doughy bottle bouquet on the palate, and a richer fruit statement. A really good bargain in French champenoise sparkling wine on the palate, it is reported to have become more expressive in varietal character into the second day. 16.2/16.8.

12/30/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE SPARKLING) 12.5%; NM at Ay; est. 1906; dosage 7g/l; disgorged 12/19. Not as strongly toasty as several Lalliers of late. Has a degree of elegance./ But very toasty on the palate. Too much so for my tastes. 16.2.

(WT123020-03) 19 STOLLER ESTATE DUNDEE HILLS CHARDONNAY  $19.99
12/30/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (U.S. WEST COAST) 12.5%; unwooded. Oh, this is searingly brisk in this cool vintage. Consummate no oak chardonnay and a ringer for a good Macon blanc./ Yes, yes, the cut is extreme, while there is underlayment that has some forgiving viscosity. Yet, it's totally dry. Mouthwatering seafood wine. Very popular with the group. 16.9.

(WT123020-04) 19 SOMMERACHER RIESLING KABINETT TROCKEN, WINZER SOMMERACH  $17.99
12/30/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (GERMANY) 12.5%; in bocksbeutel. Neat, discreet Franken riesling aroma. Stone fruit, citrus fruit, and flower notes delivered in a delicate manner./ Great acid, which cuts a measure of RS just above threshold. Well balanced, tangy, lasting.

(WT123020-05) 19 PATRICIA GREEN RESERVE WILLAMETTE VALLEY PINOT NOIR  $26.99
12/30/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (U.S. WEST COAST) 13.3%; the flagship cuvee; 1/3 estate, 1/3 Freedom Hill Vyd, 1/3 four Dundee Hills sites.; barrel aged, 1/3 new. A successful 2019 sporting rich cherry fruit, with fruit peel and tar highlights. No shortage of ripeness despite the cold, wet vintage./ Yes, admirable degree of ripeness. Just right. And a good measure of OR fruit acidity. Tangy and lingering dinner wine. 16.9.

(WT123020-06) 18 BOURGOGNE PINOT NOIR, DOMAINE ARNOUX PERE  $22.99
12/30/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 14.6%; from the lower slopes of Chorey les Beaune; vine age: 45 yrs; 1 yr in seasoned barrels; unfiltered. Well, this is huskier than the 2017. I question the alcohol statement, probably for tariff purposes, but it's no slouch. This has a firm core that will require air and/or age to spread out. The new cooperage is evident and admirable./ Really a large and complex young Beaune area pinot. And, yes, there is some heat from its strength. Not at all as easy drinking as the 2017. Price-worthy cellar candidate. 16.8+.

(WT123020-07) 13 AUXEY DURESSES LES CRAIS,. DOMAINE RAYMOND DUPONT-FAHN  $31.99
12/30/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13.5%; unfined, unfiltered; 50 yr old vines in the Le Val vyd; yield 1.5 tons per acre; aged in barrels, half new; Peter Weygandt selection. Is this a perfect cork? Or unreal? Hardly stained at all./ This wine remains stubborn, introverted. It doesn't seen to have budged much from previous encounters./ Well, there are suggestions of bottle bouquet on the palate. Medium bodied. The vintage's good acidity for food. Air and age. Choose your course carefully. 16.4+.

(WT123020-08) 18 MORELLINO DI SCANSANO, FATTORIA LE PUPILLE  $19.99
12/30/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 13.5%; 85% sangiovese, 10% alicante, 5% ciliegiolo; unwooded. The showy performance of sangiovese (aka morellino) from Tuscany's deep south. The alicante kicks in to enrich the nasal experience further. What I'm looking for in a Scansano wine./ Yes, fully ripe and sweet cherry with lacings of tarry tannins. Useful now with hearty fare, I'd deem it a sleeper in the cellar as well. 17.0+.

(WT123020-09) 18 BARBERA D'ASTI TRE VIGNE, VIETTI  $18.99
12/30/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 14.5%. Black barbera, and a little firm yet for vintage and zone. Or recent travel has shut it down./ The palate has more give. Flavor and roundness that the nose failed to convey. Positive barbera glycerol level. Mouthfilling, full

(WT123020-10) 16 COTES DU RHONE VILLAGES CUVEE SETIER, CHATEAU PEGA  $19.99
12/30/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; 60% grenache, 20% each syrah, mourvedre; 50 year old vines on the estate at Sorgues. Very large, concentrated, powerful, white dwarf compact./ Rich, round, large in the mouth. Shows old vines intensity. Chewy tannins. Certainly portrays the size of a Gigondas if not the range. Avoids that strange overripeness of the 2016 Maclura Cotes du Rhone. Cellar candidate, or match with winter roasts, stews, game. 17.0+.

(WT123020-11) 15 ESPRIT DE PAVIE, BORDEAUX  $24.99
12/30/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 14.5%; by Chateau Pavie's billionaire proprietor, Gerard Perse; 65% merlot, 20% cab franc, 15% cab sauv in clay-limestone soils of Perse-owned chateaux of St. Emilion and Castillon; barrel aged. Wow, this is classy. The fruit selection, the low yields, and the barrel aging all add up to a cru-like claret./ Yes, full nobility on the palate too. Masterful conception and execution. Fully ripe fruit and oak in harmony. The finest of tannins. A bargain price for this level of quality. 17.4+.

(WT123020-12) 17 CAROL SHELTON WILD THING OLD VINE MENDOCINO ZINFANDEL  $21.99
12/30/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (U.S. WEST COAST) 14.5%; Cox Vyd; 60 year old vines; 76% zinfandel, 15% carignane, 9% petite sirah; barrel aged. This sings. After three Euro wines of allegedly the same level of alcohol, this portrays the soaring elegance of a cool vintage zinfandel. There's old vines concentration nonetheless, and the overall aromatic complexity justifies the other varietal components./ Wow, sweet raspberry and peppercorn zin character plus sweet black cherry carignane, and the loganberry statement of a first class petite sirah. Both race and amplitude--you get it all here. 17.2+.
