- (ITALY) 12%; 85% garganega, 15% trebbiano di soave. Oh, that's a good, full garganega nose. Deep, nuanced, textured. Pear and dried apricot./ Bursting with flavor and textural vigor. Some vintages take longer to achieve this sort of fulfillment. This one's eager to please at age one. 17.0.

- (ITALY) 12.5%; north-south oriented valley blocks ocean influence, causing dramatic diurnal temperature ranges; named for local salt-water springs (salse). The full, rich, aromatic style of a Matelica verdicchio. Apples in cream./ Oh, bracing acidity! Wow, begs for food. Rounds out nicely at the finish. This will sail at VC. 16.9.

- (ITALY) 13%; a vineyard in the warmer reaches of eastern Gavi. Subtle aroma to start. Takes coaxing. Apple, vanilla, sage. Underlying cortese richness./ Oh, yes, the palate really projects the richness and also undeniable acidity and minerality. This will blossom over the coming hours...and weeks. Well, it sure did. A couple hours after I tasted it, a weekly panel member reported: 'Wow! What great character and flavor. Super flavorful, aromatic, and long. Never a a Gavi that came close to this.'.16.9+.

- (FRANCE LOIRE) 13%; Gold Medal - Concours Mondial des Feminalise. Fresh and spunky. Quince, lime, terroir./ Soft and juicy. Come hither. Delectable, really. Lower keyed than the 2018 of late, it will fill its role quite adequately given a few months' time. 16.6+.

- (FRANCE LOIRE) 13%; 30 acre estate at Chavignol making four single-vineyard Sancerre blancs. A clear, marly terroir statement and old vines intensity. Serious Sancerre, not a bit tutti-futti./ Wow, the old vines supply concentrated juice. Weighs full on the palate and promises more in its second year. 16.8+.

- (FRANCE LOIRE) 13.5%.. 'Fins' is the operative word. This has finesse. Subtle sauvignon perfumes and less terroir and weight than thje Le Manoir, though allegedly higher in alcohol./ A proper Sancerre sauvignon, grassy, citrusy, racy. Another candidate for improvement in bottle over year two. 16.7+.

- (U.S. WEST COAST) 13%; fourth generation winery at Dallas OR, west of Salem. Proper medium scarlet color intensity, as was the 2016./ Racy, red fruited OR pinot: cherry, cranberry, pomegranate./ Yes, plenty crisp edged, with a sweet core. A nice, tarry, peels quality. This is genuine cool climate pinot. 16.5+.

- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13.5%; vines planted in 72, 80, 95; Peter Weygandt selection. Deep color and more toward ruby than scarlet./ Crisp fruit aroma. Less forward than many a 17 red burgundy. Signs of barrel influence./ Playing it pretty close. Quite tart, actually. Wait for this to fill out with aeration and bottle age. A couple of hours later, it was more revealing, and the group was impressed. 16.7+.

- (ITALY) 13%. Here's a full red-black color./ Warm, ample, opened up by barrel aging. The sweet fruit of 2018 is flattering to this cuvee./ Yes, sweet, ripe, plummy fruit. A rich, concentrated hillside Monte rather than a dilute one from the high-yield plains. Solid vintage of this, upholding the tradition. 16.5+.

- (ITALY) 13%; aged 6-12 months in second year American oak barrels and French tonneaux. Purple/black color../ Oh, my! That velvety, deep, alluring, utterly noble aroma of tar and violets that marks this the 'Barolo of southern Italy'. Yikes, what a bargain!/ The velvet texture continues. Full bodied and flavored. Saturates the palate. Long finish. Cellar worthy for sure, but useful now at the table. 17.0+.

- (PORTUGAL) 14%; 40% touriga nacional, 30% aragonez, 20% alicante bouschet, 10% trincadeira. Very cool, bright, and purple fruited for the zone. That's touriga nacional and likely high altitude vineyards./ Yes, brisk, dark, spicy, racy. Full flavor and texture. Eminently versatile at the table. 16.6+.

- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; at Saint Gervais in northern Gard; 60% grenache, 30% syrah, 5% ea cinsault, mourvedre. Well, here we go again. The 2019 is a worthy successor to the strong series that started with 2015. The race, the spice, the garrigue vigor of northern Gard./ Oh, that sweet and vivacious fruit-spice-garrigue range refuses to quit. No need to delay gratification. Great acid for food. 16.8+.
