12/16/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 13.5%; son of Alain Graillot; from sites near Domaine de Lises. Very racy and aromatic and up front. Raspberry patch, white pepper to the extreme, smoked meat (beef jerky), and lavender overtones. That's a pure and inimitable Rhone Septentrionale syrah set./ Less explicit on the palate at this stage due to obstructing tannin, albeit fine tannin. Brisk acidity confirms its raciness. (WT123020-06) 18 BOURGOGNE PINOT NOIR, DOMAINE ARNOUX PERE  $22.99
12/30/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 14.6%; from the lower slopes of Chorey les Beaune; vine age: 45 yrs; 1 yr in seasoned barrels; unfiltered. Well, this is huskier than the 2017. I question the alcohol statement, probably for tariff purposes, but it's no slouch. This has a firm core that will require air and/or age to spread out. The new cooperage is evident and admirable./ Really a large and complex young Beaune area pinot. And, yes, there is some heat from its strength. Not at all as easy drinking as the 2017.
