(WT112320-01) JACQUESSON GRAND VIN CUVEE NO. 743 EXTRA BRUT CHAMPAGNE  $79.95
11/23/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (SPARKLING) 12.5%; 2015 vintage foundation: 60% Ay, Dizy, Hautvillers pinot noir, 40% Avize, Oiry chardonnay; plus reserve wines; vinified and elevated sur lie in oak foudres; unfined, unfiltered; no dosage; disgorged 11/19. Billowing, cream and brioche bouquet followed by toasted French bread. A serious presence of the reserve cuvees here tempers 2015 fruit ripeness./ Very dry as promised. The fine bead of a long en tirage cuvee. Intricate flavor array. Clinging flavors and textures. Not the jawbreaker of the 2014, but impressively close to it. 18.8.

11/23/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 13%; all turbiana; 30 year old vines on white clay. Very, very bright. More about the white than the clay. White flowers and pear./ Juicy acid to foil the sweet fruit. Unique from the others we've tasted recently. Balanced, lasting aftertaste. 16.9.

(WT112320-03) 19 MALLORCA SINCRONIA BLANC, MESQUIDA MORA  $23.99
11/23/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (SPAIN) 13%; prensal, giro, chardonnay; 20 year old vines, indigenous yeasts; 4 months on lees. A mellow melange; it works. Vinosity, citricity, minerality. Really quite full bodied./ Again, the citrus aspects. Crisp acidity, balanced set of varietal influences. Nothing askew, or loud mouthed. So ideal and rangy at the table. Saline finish. 16.6+.

(WT112320-04) 19 ALSACE PINOT GRIS TRADITION, DOMAINE EMILE BEYER  $18.99
11/23/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE ALSACE) 13%' est. 1580; at Eguisheim. A fresh vintage and style. Subtle apple and hazelnut varietal aromas./ Surprisingly soft. Very flavorful. Apple and pie crust. I think there's some RS instead of glycerol. Coated acid. I'm curious about how this will evolve. 16.3+.

(WT112320-05) 19 SANCERRE LES BARONNES, HENRI BOURGEOIS  $28.99
11/23/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE LOIRE) 14.5%; 10th generation; at Chavignol. Very stony. Wet stones nose. Runs deep and secretive. Brisk citrus hovers./ Brisk indeed. Citrus and soft tropical fruits. Ringing acidity. Good body. Lasting, balanced finish. A group favorite. 17.1.

(WT112320-06) 17 CHABLIS VAUCOUPIN PREMIER CRU, PRIEURE SAINT COME  $28.99
11/23/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%; one of the steepest of Chablis's Premier Cru vineyards, Vaucoupin lies east of the Grands Crus on an extension of same slope. Quite forward in the vintage style. Not heart on sleeve though. This is a serious, calcaire laden Premier Cru./ Dry and astute Vaucoupin style. Mineral extract grip. Nice 17 padding underneath. For mid term cellaring. 17.1+.

(WT112320-07) 20 BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU, DOMAINE ROBERT PERROUD  $14.99
11/23/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12.5%; seventh generation vigneron at Les Balloquets at the foot of Mont Brouilly, vineyards on red granitic soil. Whole-cluster vinified at cool temperature. Wow, this is bright, purple fruited, and in your face explicit. Just dazzles with accomplished, fresh gamay fruit./ Suave on the palate. Good and juicy. Abundantly flavorful and lasting. 16.8.

(WT112320-08) 20 BEAUJOLAIS VILLAGES NOUVEAU VIGNES DE 1940, DOMAINE JEAN-MICHEL DUPRE  $14.99
11/23/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12.5%; from a single parcel of 80 year old vines in sand and granite soils above the village of Beaujeu. Made by carbonic maceration. Different. Deeper, riper, spicier. Old vines and Villages terroir talk./ This really has a lot of material. A tad of reductive elements yield with aeration to a fulfilled presentation. 17.0+.

(WT112320-09) 20 BEAUJOLAIS VILLAGES NOUVEAU VIEILLES VIGNES, DOMAINE FREDERIC SORNIN  $17.99
11/23/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12.5%; ninth generation vigneron at Odenas. 50-60 year old vines on sand and granite soils. Whole cluster fermented by wild yeasts. Different again. This one is backward, but not reductive. Just not as forthcoming upon opening./ Full, rich, well built. Sweet fruit core. Waxes large in the mouth. I'm beginning to see the higher price justification. This opened up further over the coming hours and became a group favorite. Geez, tasting nouveaux from an early harvest year means not playing with pain. 16.9+.

(WT112320-11) 19 LANGHE NEBBIOLO STARDA PAITIN, PASQUERO ELIA  $17.99
11/23/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 13.5%; sourced from estate vineyards in the Starda parcel on the Bricco di Neive cru. Medium color./ This has nice cherry, tar, and rose nebbiolo features. Seems rich in glycerol too./ Oh, and spiced cherry too. Clove in back. All seems to justify a site-specific bottling. It's different from any we've tasted of late. Good acid and fine grained tannin. The group appreciated both quality and value. 16.9+.

(WT112320-12) 18 CHINON, JEAN-MAURICE RAFFAULT  $14.99
11/23/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE LOIRE) 14.5%; est. 1693; from sandy alluvial soil near the Vienne. Strange positioning for a Chinon in a Wednesday set, but check the alcohol and the color! Large, extract laden, and still sullen./ Yeah, this has all the material, body, power, and potential one could want. Just lacks aromatic profile. Over the coming hours it began to reveal a richer set of aromas and flavors. Nonetheless, like me, the group was most impressed its body, power, and cellar-worthiness. 16.9++.
