(WT101420-01) 19 SAUMUR BLANC LES POUCHES, CAVE DE SAUMUR  $11.99
10/14/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE LOIRE) 13%; chenin blanc vineyard on southwest facing slopes near the village of Meron. Pungent apple and quince. It's both brisk and fresh and has that tender, forgiving 2019 fruit center./ Palate adds white peach. This is very stimulating and refreshing for its bright, crisp acidity. Salivating even. Great mineral savor. Many mealtime applications. A top vintage of this. 16.6.

(WT101420-02) 19 HUSCH 50TH ANNIVERSARY MENDOCINO CHENIN BLANC  $15.99
10/14/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (U.S. WEST COAST) 13.3%; 1.1% RS. Plumper and fruitier. Less exuberant, upon opening. This probably needs more bottle age before it expresses itself fully./ The difference in RS is clear. This has decent acid crispness to balance. I'd like to visit this again in a few weeks. Nonetheless, after a couple hours' aeration, the group found it varietally expressive. 16.2+.

(WT101420-03) 19 SANCERRE L'AUTHENTIQUE, CLAUDE & FLORENCE THOMAS-LABAILLE  $23.99
10/14/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE LOIRE) 13.3%; at Chavignol. Has that 2019 freshness and forward fruit ease about it. / Nice flow on the palate. Hesitant to show all upon opening, likely it will begin to spread its peacock's tail after more aeration. And it did. The group enjoyed its good fruit and balance. 16.3+.

(WT101420-04) 18 POUILLY FUME LE TRONCSEC, JOSEPH MELLOT  $26.99
10/14/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE LOIRE) 13%; vineyard on chalky Kimmeridgian marls at Saint Laurent l'Abbaye. The greater amplitude of 2018 and more peachy richness that is Pouilly Fume versus Sancerre. This has real build, form./ Yes, more body, more texture, more dry extract, more flavor concentration. As we've seen from tasting the 2016 not long ago, this is ageworthy material. Mouthfilling and long. Pleasing peach-peel sort of bitterness at the end. 16.9+.

(WT101420-05) 19 BANDOL ROSE RESERVE, BIELER PERE  $23.99
10/14/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 13.5%; 52% mourvedre, 26% cinsault, 22% grenache. The Aix en Provence rose was nice. However, this is decidedly bigger. Wow, real Bandol rose richness, scope, and depth of aromas. Wide spectrum of red fruits./ Very attractively fruity. Strawberry, raspberry, loganberry. What a treat! With the Bastide Blanche sold out, this is the go to Bandol rose value. 17.1

(WT101420-06) 18 SAINT CHINIAN LES TRAVERS DE MARCEAU, DOMAINE RIMBERT  $19.99
10/14/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 12.5%; 40% mourvedre, 30% each syrah, grenache. Uniquely tart cranberry aroma. Cranberry-orange relish. I want this on the Thanksgiving table./ It's not tart to the taste. The acid is fine, and there's a suavity to the texture. This is closer to my image of Saint Chinian than was the 2017 a couple of weeks back, as adventuresome as that wine was. Racy and unique indeed. Very popular with the group. Orders taken. 16.9+.

(WT101420-07) 18 SANCERRE ROUGE, DOMAINE HIPPOLYTE REVERDY  $29.99
10/14/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE LOIRE) 14.5%; at Chaudoux-Verdigny. Darker fruited, more condensed, and larger scaled than the user friendly 2017. This is even more impressive and requests more time in the cellar. Definitely near the head of its class in terms of volume, while retaining Sancerre rouge's definitive high latitude pinot noir styling./ Yes, more weight, texture, tannin, and flavor concentration than the come hither 2017. Fine, racy, northern fruit acidity. Put it away for awhile. 17.1+.

(WT101420-08) 16 MARSANNAY, DOMAINE BART  $28.99
10/14/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%. Oh, this is fresh, crisp Dijonnaise pinot noir. What a pleasing juxtaposition with the Sancerre rouge. It's like a transition between that and a full fledged Cote d'Or pinot. The fruit is very sweet and come hither for a 2016. And plumper by comparison with the Sancerre. Of course, it's two years older. That has also enhanced its complexity./ Yes, fresh and engaging Marsannay red fruit. Entirely harmonious. Good 2016 acidity. Can put to use with food. Can also cellar to allow its bottle bouquet to form. Very popular with the group. 17.2+.

(WT101420-09) 18 CAHORS MALBEC, CLOS LA COUTALE  $16.99
10/14/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 14.5%. Black wine of Cahors indeed. This is deep, dense, and concentrated. Cherry concentrate and tar./ Fine fruit sweetness of 2018. Best from here since 2014. Sweet fruit, fine fruit acidity, nicely burnished tannins in back. Ageworthy too. 16.7+.

(WT101420-10) 14 CAHORS, CHATEAU FAMAEY  $18.99
10/14/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12.5%; all malbec. Smells a bit along for this vintage. There is some bouquet development that lifts it up./ Palate seems fresher. Sweet and round with six years' age, especially for the vintage. Again, that singed aspect on the aftertaste. The cork has integrity though. Put to use this fall. 15.5.

(WT101420-11) 13 PUGLIA NEPRICA, SOC. AGR. TORMARESCA  $11.99
10/14/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 13.5%; 40% negroamaro; 30% each primitivo, cab sauv. Logical degree of maturity and bottle bouquet at age seven. There's wholesome black fruit yet along with its earned bouquet./ Yes, a very attractive degree of maturity, while retaining fruit material and fine fruit tannin. This could be cellared another year or so. 16.4.

(WT101420-12) 17 BUENA VISTA THE COUNT SONOMA RED  $19.99
10/14/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (U.S. WEST COAST) 15.5%; Merlot, syrah, pinot meunier, zinfandel, cab sauv, petite sirah, malbec. 12 months in French and Hungarian oak. Sur maturitie ripeness and sweetness, led by jammy rich merlot. Albeit from a cool vintage./ Again, the fruit jam/jelly pattern. The acid's fine. It's not a sweet wine. Just exceptionally ripe. 16.0.
