(WT100720-02) 19 BINISSALEM - MALLORCA MOLL SUPERNOVA, CA'N VERDURA  $23.99
10/07/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- ( SPAIN) 12.5%; from bush trained moll vines planted in the 1950s. This is brisk, with an underbrush aspect like a muscadet, but its own thing, really. Fills the nostrils, texturally. Not abundantly fruity, so very versatile./ More about feel than flavor. Satisfying in that regard. This has a lot of dry extract and considerable weight. Unique. After an hour or two's aeration, this developed some stone fruit aroma and flavor. Wisp of horehound. Ageworthy? It impressed the group. 16.5+.

10/07/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- ( FRANCE LOIRE) 13.5%; on the east bank of the Cher near Chateau de Chenonceau. Like the 2018, cat pee on a gooseberry bush. Fully intense and penetrating. Nose soars, even higher than the 2018./ Good body and acid, though less than the 2018. Confirming and persisting flavors. Lots of meal service apps. 16.7.

(WT100720-05) 18 ALTO ADIGE GEWURZTRAMINER, ELENA WALCH  $23.99
10/07/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 14%. A lovely, rosy thing. Not thick like cold cream. Pure rose petal./ Well, there's that cold cream viscosity on that palate, fully in tune with the varietal. Wears its power well. Good extract and cut supplied by its terroir. Balance of elegance and structure. A beguiling--and gorgeous-- interpretation. Very popular with the group. 16.9.

Black fruited, seasoned; broad spectrum of subtle varietal aromas in harmony with one another. Comments include dark chocolate, prune-plum, , garrigue, anise, and florals. Unique for sure./ Full bodied, both rich and racy. Lots of aromatic and textural range and excitement. Stimulating, mentally and sensually. The group was enthralled. 17.3+.

(WT100720-09) 18 CHIANTI CLASSICO, ROCCA DI MONTEGROSSI  $21.99
10/07/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 14%; 90% sangiovese, with canaiolo, colorino; aged 14 months in Alliers oak casks and barrels; unfiltered. Cool and penetrating anise note. Quite powerful and nostril filling. Signs of barrel extract and barrel-age earned subtleties. Really a big boy, with brain to match brawn./ Dried cherry and orange peel sangiovese aspects. And the proper level of glycerol. Really a well crafted, well endowed sangiovese with Classico breeding, importance, and cellar potential. 17.2+.

(WT100720-11) 18 SABLET COTES DU RHONE VILLAGES, DOMAINE DE PIAUGIER  $18.99
10/07/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; 80% grenache, 20% syrah. Oh, the black fruit--especially grenache raspberry--and black pepper. The rest of the wine is big enough to handle the high alcohol content with aplomb. Ripe and large scaled./ Rich, fruity, peppery, balanced. Shows Sablet underlying temperance too. Very, very satisfying mouthful. 16.9+.

(WT100720-12) 16 TRENTADUE ESTATE LA STORIA BLOCK 303 GEYSERVILLE RANCH ALEXANDER VALLEY ZINFANDEL  $24.99
10/07/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- ( U.S. WEST COAST) 15.1%; est. 1969; aged 14 months in European oak barrels. Tartrates on cork suggest this is not 'processed'. Very heady in my Taster glass. Ripe, large, black, condensed, traditional Alexander zinfandel. Plenty of fruit./ Vast expanse of fruit flavors and textures. Alexander Valley broad, rich, and powerful. Shows barrel aging breadth and complexity. Wine of place and winemaker style. Big time value. 17.3+.
