(WT091620-01) 19 SAVOIE JONGIEUX, DOMAINE EUGENE CARREL  $11.99
09/16/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 11.5%; from jacquere. Bright and fresh and minty. Bergamot./ Medium bodied nature of vintage. Flavor confirms aroma. Good acid. Long, clinging, minerally mouthfeel. Will probably fill out further over the coming months. Regardless, very popular with the group already. 16.3+.

(WT091620-02) 19 COTES DE GASCOGNE, MONT GRAVET  $9.99
09/16/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 11.5%; all colombard; Melvin Master selection. Hint of wet wool, wet dog forms of sulphur under screwcap. Accurate colombard greenery underneath./ Richer in the mouth than expected. Not much influenced by sulphur here. Spruce note. Medium bodied 2019 nature. Modest acidity compared to many vintages of this. Reductive at this stage, and in need of more aeration and bottle age. 15.8+.

(WT091620-03) 19 BLANC DE CHATEAU CAMARSAC, BORDEAUX SAUVIGNON  $11.99
09/16/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12.5%; proprietor Thierry Lurton. Some H2S on opening. And sharp SO2. Hope this is fleeting./ Yeah, the SO2 grip. I can't get a read on this. Take it away, Wed group. Well, turns out it didn't reveal much more after additional aeration. Will just have to wait it out. No rating at present.

(WT091620-04) 19 SANCERRE LE CLOS DE CHAUDENAY, DOMAINE DAULNY  $25.99
09/16/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE LOIRE) 14%. Rich in body and texture but shy on aroma upon opening. As the evening progressed, it yielded up more sauvignon aromatics. / More flavor profile, but not by much in the beginning. However, this became more revealing as the hours passed. Again, the body and texture are admirable. Well liked by the group. 16.4+.

- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 13%; all roussanne. This is full, round roussanne.. Scents of peach, peel, and straw./ More roundness. Typical roussanne glycerol. Apricot and peach pit. Had many fans this evening. Another youngster in the formative stages. Promising body, texture. 16.3+.

(WT091620-06) 16 BOURGOGNE HAUTES COTES DE BEAUNE SOUS EQUISONS CAROLINE LESTIME, JEAN NOEL GAGNARD  $34.99
09/16/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12.5%; Becky Wasserman selection. Early reduction clears. Promising chardonnay fruit volume. Good oak complement./ Lees aging, barrel aging, and barrel extracts all evident. The large, solid, dry, austere structure of an Hautes Cotes and a 2016. I like its bulk and prospects. This swelled up and became more revealing as it aired, ultimately attracting many fans. 16.7+.

(WT091620-07) 19 SANCERRE ROSE, DOMAINE DAULNY  $22.99
09/16/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE LOIRE ROSE) 13%. Still some BBG (banana & bubble gum) fermentation aromas. Strawberry-cherry pinot noir rose aromas also come into play./ This all plays out on the palate at first. Thereafter, it turns into a lovely and flavorful, more accomplished glass of rose, with good acidity and minerality. Likely to improve through next spring. 15.9+.

(WT091620-08) 17 FIXIN VIEILLE VIGNE, DOMAINE MONGEARD-MUGNERET  $59.95
09/16/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%; Daniel Haas selection. Well, what a treat! This is real Fixin, with northern Cote de Nuits black fruit, a certain dryness, compactness, and austerity in youth, despite the accessible reputation of the vintage. Oh, there's plenty of 2017 fruit welling up though,, as it airs. Deep black cherry and anise aromas. Old vines concentration, and complications of barrel aging./ Lovely, juicy 2017 fruit faithful to the AOC. Old vines intense, barrel aged suave and complex. Long, fruity aftertaste.. This demonstrates that Mongeard has maintained its style and quality. 17.6+.

(WT091620-09) 14 BOURGOGNE PINOT NOIR, DOMAINE DES PERDRIX  $26.99
09/16/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13.5%. Last week's bottle was oxidized. A leaky cork seems to have been the culprit. Now here's a hard working cork, long, and stained barely beyond the wine-side end. In fact, the nose is actually still a bit backward./ Flavors of dark Nuits fruit, particularly plum and cherry, plus sur bois. 2014 chewy. Lots of material here. In fact, this seems younger than when I tasted it a year back. That bottle, however, had been open longer and tipped to fill glasses many times. Cellar-worthy. 16.8+.

(WT091620-10) 16 LAGRAVE DE CHATEAU LATOUR MARTILLAC, PESSAC LEOGNAN  $24.99
09/16/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 13%; second wine of Grand Cru Chateau Latour Martillac; cab sauv, merlot. The wine is dark, lush, and plummy. Fully in tune with the Grand Vin, though not as barrel enhanced. Sleek, stylish 2016 mode./ Oh, yes, a silky, well tailored 2016 with dark, deep fruit basis. Grand Cru pedigree; just short on oak embellishments. Tres 2016. 17.1+.

(WT091620-11) 16 CHIANTI CLASSICO, CASTELLO DI BOSSI  $19.99
09/16/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 14.5%; at Castelnuovo Berardenga; unfiltered; Leonardo Los Casio selection. Real cork, and not one of those damn compressed-to-quarter-diameter to fit narrow neck one. Came out easily. This pleases. It's 2016 sleek. Dried cherry and orange peel. Barrel mellowing, uniting./ Oh, I love that 2016 racy texture. Good acid-sweet balance. Just an harmonious, lasting, finely tannic, fulfilled 2016. Ideal 2016. Long lasting finish. I like this estate's wines. Very well liked by the group. Orders taken. 16.8+

(WT091620-12) 18 POSTMARK NAPA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON  $29.99
09/16/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (U.S. WEST COAST) 14.5%; by Duckhorn. Sweet, suave, ripe, oaky, and wholly engaging Napa Valley cabernet. Duckhorn sleekness, plus more fruit oomph and sweetness than in most Duckhorn-sponsored wines./ Yeah, chocolate, caramel, and ripe black fruit with Napa class. Worth the tariff. The Europhiles in the group could not abide this. The rest praised it.17.0+.
