(WT081920-01) 19 COTES DE GASCOGNE, DOMAINE DES CASSAGNOLES  $9.99
08/19/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12%; 50% colombard, 25% each ugni blanc, gros manseng. Dazzling and penetrating aromas of sharp green colombard, softer green ugni, and round, golden manseng. Goes way deep thanks to the manseng./ Flavors of spring grass, lime, and soft tropical fruits. Scintillating fruit acidity just vibrates on the palate. Long, tangy, flavorful finish. A top vintage of this. 16.9.

(WT081920-04) 18 BOURGOGNE ALIGOTE, ALBERT BICHOT  $18.99
08/19/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12%; est. 1831. Deep, penetrating, green, sappy, mealy aligote./ Yes, talks the aligote talk on the palate too. It's basic fare compared to some the high flyers we've tasted lately. Yet accurate, and well priced. Has green fruit flavor and good acidity. A workaday aligote that will prove versatile at the table. 16.4.

(WT081920-05) 18 ALSACE PINOT BLANC, DOMAINE WEINBACH  $25.99
08/19/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE ALSACE) 13%; at Kaysersberg. From the Laurence and Clos de Capuchins vineyards. 70% pinot auxerrois, 30% pinot blanc. Weinbach clear and intense. Auxerrois fleshes it out. Mentions of golden delicious apple, green apple, and pear aromas./ Soft acid of the varietals. Auxerrois creaminess. Though the RS is threshold, there were comments on the wine's 'sweetness'. Probably due to mild acidity combined with auxerrois's high glycerol content. Damn good overall. 16.7.

(WT081920-06) 18 COTES DU RHONE BLANC, DOMAINE SAINTE ANNE  $12.99
08/19/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; roussanne, marsanne, viognier. Spells these varieties in the relatively cool setting of northern Gard. I imagine these vines are pretty old by now, since this has been the constitution of the blanc for many years. Roussanne peach, marsanne marl, viognier honeysuckle./ Round and medium-full in flavor and body. An harmonious cuvee, with mealworthy vinosity. Later, in a warm ambient, some tasters though the alcohol a little much. 16.5.

(WT081920-07) 19 PAYS D'OC CINSAULT ROSE, MONT GRAVET  $9.99
08/19/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN ROSE) 12%; Melvin Master selection. Well, that's cinsault rose. A red raspberry, cranberry, and orange peel scented crisp, light hearted rose with no pretensions of grandeur./ Light bodied, gentle, flowing. The opposite end of the spectrum from Tavel, this is fit for tea sandwiches and other dainty fare. 16.2.

(WT081920-09) 14 RIOJA RESERVA, BODEGAS LAN  $19.99
08/19/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (SPAIN) 13.5%; tempranillo, mazuelo. 2014 dark fruit, yet surprisingly sweet and supple for the vintage. Attractive and traditional AMERICAN oak barrel leachings as well as barrel-earned suavity./ Lots of American oak vanillin, char, and dill. Plenty of body. Tannin yet to resolve. I'd be cellaring this 2-3 years. Well liked by the group. 16.9+.

(WT081920-10) 18 COTES DU RHONE, DOMAINE SAINTE ANNE  $12.99
08/19/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; 60% grenache, 30% syrah, 10% cinsault. Wow! Gard fresh and ventilating cool red fruits. Great depth and sweetness of aroma. Lush and lovely. Classic DSA./ Rose and garrigue highlights. Gentle flow. I felt he Villages tasted a couple of weeks back showed more oomph on the palate, not without expectations. Nonetheless, the group was crazy about this DSA too, and it's three bucks cheaper. Plenty of early appeal. 16.5.

(WT081920-11) 15 BAROLO ALASIA, CANTINE ARALDICA  $27.99
08/19/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 14%; aged 3 years in large oak casks. This is sweeter, fuller, and more aromatic than the Barbaresco we tasted last week./ Oh, but there's that tarry core. Overall, more-ish compared to the Barbaresco--including more expensive. And the extra year of cask aging amplifies the experience. Really 2015 fruit laden, which makes it seem 'modern',as well as Barolo built, which marks it 'traditional'. Impressive value, of which the appreciative group took note. 17.2+.

(WT081920-12) 17 VALPOLICELLA RIPASSO CLASSICO SUPERIORE CAMPOLIETI, LUIGI RIGHETTI  $19.99
08/19/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 13.5%; est. 1909; corvina, rondinella, molinara. A sweet and modern ripasso, as always here. One wonders if it isn't appassimento enhanced. Regardless, all good fun./ The levity of the 17 vintage and softness of the tannins invite service in the near term. Flavorful and fetching, I'm dreaming of food matches, because there are many. Widely enjoyed by group members. 16.6.
