(WT072121-01) DUMANGIN LA CUVEE 17 BRUT CHAMPAGNE  $42.99
07/21/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (SPARKLING) 12%; NM at Chigny les Roses; est. 1884; fifth generation; 1/3 ea meunier, pinot noir, chardonnay; 7 g/l; disgorged 7/18/19. This is expressive of eastern Montagne de Reims terroir. It suggests association with Chigny's J. Lassalle champagnes. It's Reims full, but not to the Bouzy extreme. It shows an exceptionally well crafted array of varietal components, all in harmony. Plenty of en tirage biscuit too./ Palate fully confirms the spread and the compatibility. The dryness level is just right, completing a paean to fine winemaking. 17.6.

07/21/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 13%; aged 6 months on lees. Fresh and full and right. Green apple, quince, green pear./ Large presence in the mouth too. Very flavorful. Takes this variety to the max. Long finish. Food, please. 16.9.

(WT072121-03) 19 LANGHE FAVORITA ONORATA, ANGELO NEGRO  $18.99
07/21/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 13%; est. 1670; vineyard in Roero; favorita = vermentino; cryomaceration; aged 3 months on lees. A nice, cooler climate, higher altitude take on vermentino versus the Sardinian and Tuscan versions. More related to a Cinqjue Terre version. I applaud its daintiness, its finesse./ Undeniable varietal ID, including white flower highlights. Moderate acidity and medium body. Good now. Very popular with the group. 16.6.

(WT072121-04) 19 MACON CHAINTRE LE CHATEAU DE CHAINTRE, FABRICE LAROCHETTE  $17.99
07/21/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13.5%; generations-old domaine. This is Chaintre full. Pushing Saint Veran. Plenty of nasal presence./ Medium body of 2019, and modest acidity. I've had vintages with more oomph. 16.1.

(WT072121-05) 20 CHINON ROSE RIVE GAUCHE CHATEAU DE LA BONNELIERE, M. PLOUZEAU  $15.99
07/21/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE LOIRE) 12.5%; historic cellars beneath the fortress of Chinon; 35 year old vines on gravel. Shy, perhaps from recent travel or low temperature. Airing coaxes forth that lovely red raspberry cab franc aroma./ Not a lot of flavor impact yet. At least it seems past the fermentation residuals stage. Medium acidity. Will likely blossom forth over the coming weeks. 16.3+.

(WT072121-06) 19 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE CUVEE TRADITION, DOMAINE BERTHET-RAYNE  $36.99
07/21/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; est. 1978; 65% grenache, 20% mourvedre, 10% cinsault, 5% syrah; in the northern CdP Chapouin, Coudoulet, and La Gardiole quartiers; aged a year in vats. A classic Berthet Chateauneuf nose, very cool and purple thanks to the high mourvedre content. I mean, everything I like about the estate's Chateauneuf Tradition is embodied in this 2019./ Delicious fruit sweetness of grenache too. Grace of cinsault, kernel of black syrah at the core. Polished tannins of 2019. Good mid term ager. 17.3+.

(WT072121-07) 18 CHATEAU CANTENAC, GRAND CRU, SAINT EMILION  $34.99
07/21/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 14.5%; 4th generation; 75% merlot, 25% cabernet; in the west on sand and gravel over blue clay; 1 year in barrels; Barrel time and the fruit abundance of 2018 has opened up and spread this out already./ Medium bodied. A proper Grand Cru with light barrel embellishments. Well balamced. Popular with the group. 16.7+.

(WT072121-09) 17 VERONA ROSSO CAMPOFIORIN,. AGR. MASI  $19.99
07/21/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 13.5%; the original ripasso; first vintage: 1964; corvina, rondinella, molinara. I like the way they do this. It's ripasso but not with a vengeance. Gently sweet, tarry, raisined, and barrel aged./ Ripasso sweetness amplified on the palate. Yet everything's under control. The most traditional of ripassos. Nothing blowsy about it. 16.8.+.

(WT072121-10) 17 BAROLO MONFALLETTO, SOC. AGR. CORDERO DI MONTEZEMOLO  $49.99
07/21/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 14.5%; at La Morra; est. 1340; 19th generation; barrel aged 18-24 months. Welcome back to the market, Cordero. It's been awhile. I like this. It's a traditional Barolo in a relatively light weight vintage, so it's not stodgy. Tar, rose, cherry. Runs deep and ripe. Shows its power and its long barrel sojourn./ Well, it has plenty of traditional nebbiolo dry tannins regardless of vintage weight. Full bodied enough to leave the tannins in proper portion. Good cellar candidate. 17.0+.

(WT072121-11) 16 SAINT JOSEPH TERROIR DE GRANIT, DOMAINE GUY FARGE  $29.99
07/21/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 13%; at Saint Jean de Muzols; grapes once sold to Cave de Tain and Delas; estate bottled since 2007; vineyards planted 1930s and 1978-1993; native yeasts; aged a year in seasoned cooperage; unfiltered. Welcome back also to this oft time favorite many moons ago. This is very dense for the vintage and the AOC. Shows his Cornas prowess at St. Joe. I mean, Saint Joseph doesn't get any richer and riper than this./ The fullness, the totality of dry matter, the dark core of tannin...Actually, this really talks Cornas. Impressive, if not classic. 17.1+.

(WT072121-12) 15 BOURGOGNE PINOT NOIR, MAISON L'ENVOYE  $26.99
07/21/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%; barrel aged; from 3 growers near Beaune and in the Hautes Cotes; including fruit from Savigny Marconnets; aged a year in seasoned barrels. I get the Hautes Cotes rusticity on the nose. It's a hearty lad, rather awkward in adolescence./ Yes, tannic, and in a trough, flavor wise. Much more vital than the 2012 sent to me in error and tasted a few weeks back. Likely will blossom in the cellar. 16.0+.
