07/01/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12.5%. Fresher, brighter. 2017 lithe and fruity. Sense of depth behind it all. Aligote doree versus a different clone exhibited above./ Yes, 2017 levity and come hither appeal. Medium bodied, gently flowing. The gentler acidity of this vintage. 16.5.

(WT070120-04) 17 BOURGOGNE ALIGOTE CHAMP FOREY, DOMAINE SYLVAIN PATAILLE  $47.99
07/01/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12.5%. Vines planted between 1932 and 1961. Total production: 75 cases. A tad more maturity to this, and greater 2017 fruit-forward expression. Still, there's a gob of material buoying that up./ Great grip and savor. Full mouth feel. Oh, boy, is this loaded with old vines concentration and dry extract. Chewy. 17.1.

(WT070120-05) 17 BOURGOGNE ALIGOTE LES AUVONNES AU PEPE, DOMAINE SYLVAIN PATAILLE  $47.99
07/01/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12.5%. The vineyard was planted in the 1930s by Sylvain's grandfather. Total production: 25 cases. A heftier, pushier noseful. Turns up the volume. Spread, depth, volume./ Massive and chewy mouthful of old vines fruit material. Very, very harmonious. Suaver than the former. Everlasting finish. 17.5.

(WT070120-06) 17 BOURGOGNE ALIGOTE CLOS DU ROY, DOMAINE SYLVAIN PATAILLE  $59.95
07/01/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12.5%. Vines planted between 1932 and 1935. Total production: under 50 cases. Lime and gravel versus clay gives this more lift. Paragon of elegance in the aligote field./ Oh, but chewy constitution on the palate. Mealy, mouthcoating. Gads, what density here. Forever finish. Its alcohol content belies its power. 17.7.

(WT070120-07) 17 BOURGOGNE ALIGOTE LA CHARME AUX PRETRES, DOMAINE SYLVAIN PATAILLE  $59.95
07/01/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 12%. Vines planted in 1985. Total production: under 50 cases. The most complex aroma set of the range. This nose intrigues. Completely harmonious, and so full of subtleties that my nose seemingly can encompass them all. This is aligote?!/ Again, total harmony of a huge range of taste aspects. It all hangs together so well...and hangs around a long time! 17.9.

(WT070120-08) 16 CHASSAGNE MONTRACHET MORGEOT PREMIER CRU, DOMAINE VINCENT & SOPHIE MOREY  $59.95
07/01/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13.5%. Whoa! Culture shock! Oak, malo, chardonnay. The full Burgundian barrel regimen here: lees, barrel extracts, barrel-time bouquet. Chassagne round and inviting./ Good volume and grip, as well as confirmation of the aroma range. Some 2016 chewy extract to counter the Chassagne plushness. Well crafted, and, in the present market, a decided bargain. A big hit with the group. Orders taken. 17.8.

(WT070120-09) 19 MARSANNAY ROSE, DOMAINE COLLOTTE  $22.99
07/01/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY ROSE) 12.5%. Impressively full color for a pinot noir rose./ Well, now, its own thing. Definitely fuller than Loire's pinot roses. A beautiful spread of fruits and flowers. Including cherry and cherry blossom. A genuinely complex rose. 2018 rich too./ Yes, richly fruity in the mouth. This just spreads out all over. What more could you want in a pinot noir rose? Best Marsannay rose I've tasted. 17.3.

(WT070120-10) 19 GIGONDAS ROSE, DOMAINE SAINT DAMIEN  $25.99
07/01/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY ROSE) 13%. Actually a little paler than the Marsannay./ Some sulphur to start. Too bad. I can't get under it. The group will likely have better luck after aeration. There's surprising levity and low alcohol here for a Gigondas rose and Saint Damien wine./ Some sulphur grip suppresses the flavor too. As expected, by the time the group tasted this a couple of hours later, and multiple pours served to aerate it, the sulphur dissipated. Notes of raspberry and peach emerged after aeration. Much positive commentary. Under the circumstances, I can offer no rating number.

(WT070120-11) 19 MORGON GRAND CRU, DOMAINE MARCEL LAPIERRE  $34.99
07/01/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE RHONE MEDITERRANEAN) 13.5%. I'm surprised this is so fruity and already accomplished. We waited a lot longer to taste the 2018. Vintage matters--more in a sense of style rather than 'quality'. The Lapierre Morgon material is here. The wine has third dimension. It's just not as compact as the 18./ A round, rich, large-scale Morgon in the mouth. Flavorful and harmonious. Plenty of Morgon pie cherry fruit. Geez, this doesn't have to be assigned to the wine cellar, though it will distinguish itself there. The group was impressed. 17.1.

(WT070120-12) 16 RASTEAU CUVEE 1921, DOMAINE LES APHILLANTHES  $26.99
07/01/20 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE RHONE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; vines planted in 1921; unfiltered. Culture shock again. This is entirely ripe and powerful. To my tastes, it's a little over the top: singed. Can't fault the effort to give, give, give./ Well, not so roti on the palate. Full warmth, volume, power. And less singe. Going to need some hearty fare. The group too noted a full degree of ripeness and also a countering measure of brightness and lift as the wine evolved. 16.6.
