(WT060221-1) 13 ANDRE CLOUET BOUZY GRAND CRU DREAM VINTAGE BRUT CHAMPAGNE  $54.95
06/02/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (SPARKLING) 12%; all Bouzy; all chardonnay! Super toasty from its long on lees sojourn. There's something about Montagne de Reims blanc de blancs that's extra heavy duty too. I find it in Coutier's Ambonnay bdb./ Wow, big weight and character. Dinner wine for sure. You gotta like this gear-oil style, which comes forth in the top vintages but takes 'elevage' in years like 2013. 17.8.

(WT060221-10) 18 CAIRANNE MAXIMILIEN, DOMAINE LES GRANDS BOIS  $19.99
06/02/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; Cairanne has earned single-village AOC status; 50% grenache, 35% mourvedre, 15% syrah; Peter Weygandt selection. Black color./ Intense black fruit and black pepper. In my mind, that writes the book on Cairanne. Oh, and it's deep and cool, with another defining Cairanne note: licorice./ Large and powerful, yet well constituted, well composed. The tannins are fine, the fruit is perfectly ripe and not overly 2018 gushy. May I say it again? THIS is Cairanne! 17.4..

(WT060221-11) 19 TENERIFE YCODEN-DAUTE-ISORA BENJE ENVINATE, VITICULTORES DE SANTIAGO DEL TEIDE Y ENVINATE  $28.99
06/02/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (SPAIN) 12%; Canary Is.; all listan pietro, untrained, 70-100 yrs old. Unique and wide ranging aromatic array of herbs and spices. With deep seated, ripe red fruit basis./ Palate equally complex and entertaining. Full body and texture, while retaining a cool disposition. Tired of same old - same old? Give this a whirl. 17.2.

(WT060221-12) 14 CAHORS, CHATEAU DU CAYROU  $17.99
06/02/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 12.5%; latest release; from gravelly soil on the second terrace above the Lot; 40 year old vines; aged 2 yrs in neutral vessels. Whoa! This is a big and bold Black Wine of Cahors! Deep penetrating and peppery./ Quite a bit of 2014 tannin on the palate. Dry and undeveloped yet. Predictably 2014. One for the cellar. 16.6/16.2+.

(WT060221-2) 20 VERNACCIA DI SAN GIMIGNANO, TENUTA LE CALCINAIE  $17.99
06/02/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 13%; no sooner do we taste the 2019, than they start shipping the 2020; Marc de Grazia selection. Oh, my goodness! This trumps the 2019! The freshness, the amplification, and the vigor. All the while, the degree of fulfillment at such a tender age./ Well, still a little banana flavor and bitterness, so not quite ready for prime time. The nose alone though is worth the price of admission! Hallmark! 17.1/16.5+.

(WT060221-3) 19 ALTO ADIGE PINOT GRIGIO, CANTINA KURTATSCH  $18.99
06/02/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (TALY 13.5%; est. 1900; 190-family cooperative; high elevation on limestone; aged on fine lees. Surprising, there's still some SO2 here going into its second year. A healthy, hearty degree of grigio fruit underneath./ Mild acid, smooth texture, accurate flavor, no sulphur marring the palate. I suspect the sulphur will clear over the coming hours. Reports are that it did, revealing fruity and even floral notes. 15.2. 17.8.

(WT060221-4) 19 COTES DE GASCOGNE RESERVE SELECTION CUVEE GROS MANSENG, DOMAINE DES CASSAGNOLES  $12.99
06/02/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 14%; all gros manseng; dry; Peter Weygandt selection. Peach-apricot varietal aroma. Very enticing. Defining./ Round and soft, but not sweet. Long lasting flavor included peach-peel intensity. When I bought this, I was expecting a sweet wine like Pellehaut's L'Ete. Research and experience have proven otherwise. I'm not disappointed though. Not one bit. This is a singular wine and textbook gros manseng at a song of a price. 16.7.

(WT060221-5) 20 COTES DE GASCOGNE ROSE PLAISIR, DOMAINE DES CASSAGNOLES  $10.99
06/02/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 13%; merlot and cab sauv; Peter Weygandt selection. Dainty yet deep running. Abundant red fruit array, headed by cherry./ Flavorful. A little lipstick yet. Will pass. Fulfilled by summer, if supplies last that long. There's never enough of this to satisfy demand. 16.3+.

(WT060221-6) 19 MORGON GRAND CRU, CHATEAU DE PIZAY  $19.99
06/02/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%; 45 year old vines on granite; David Milligan selection. Morgon full, which is not always true of Pizay. Perhaps the finest and most abundant Pizay I've nosed. This writes the book./ Yes, Morgon full, while retaining Pizay's gamay raciness.. Long aftertaste. Well priced Morgon here. 16.5.

(WT060221-7) 19 KEN WRIGHT WILLAMETTE VALLEY PINOT NOIR  $27.99
06/02/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (U.S. WEST COAST) 12.8%; from Abbott Claim, Canary Hill, Carter, Freedom Hill, Guadalupe, McCrone, Meredith Mitchell, Nysa, and Savoya vineyards.. Spicy-oaky-cedary impressions from the smell of the cork to what's wafting from my Taster glass at first encounter. Full, sweet fruit with fine oak dressings./ Medium bodied. 2019 takes the pedal off the metal to a degree, but there's nothing wanting for sweetness and fulfillment here despite the cold, wet vintage. Bravo, Ken Wright. 16.7+.

(WT060221-8) 18 BOURGOGNE PINOT NOIR, DOMAINE A-F GROS  $42.99
06/02/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%; est. 1988; daughter of Jean Gros; from 2 vineyards in Pommard & 1 in Volnay. Well, almost a Cote de Nuits sense of black fruit. Masterful oak application, integrity, and complexity. One ample Bourgogne./ More to the Cote de Beaune red fruit sensations on the palate, and a measure of Volnay levity. The barrel influences contribute variegations. Good material, fine winemaking. 17.5+.

(WT060221-9) 18 SAINT MAURICE COTES DU RHONE VILLAGES ECHEVIN, DOMAINE LA FLORANE  $25.99
06/02/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; 90% syrah, 10% grenache; aged 15 months half in concrete vats & half in oak demi muids; Alain Junguenet selection. Va, va, voom! Like the 2015, this is huge! Southern Rhone syrah fully amplified. Sweet, dense, insistent./ The fruit is sweet in the mouth too. Actually cooled and moderated by the alcohol. And balanced too by some tannin in back. Nothing overripe or overdone here. The village is in the temperate zone of Vaucluse. 17.0+.
