(WT031721-02) 18 GRECO DI TUFO LOGGIA DELLA SERRA, TERREDORA DI PAOLO  $23.99
03/17/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 13%; from estate vineyards at 600 meters' elevation; scion of the Mastroberardino family. Coming into fulfillment. Depth and mealiness. Has good greco fatness./ Well, that's more impressive still on the palate. Plenty of body and good acidity here for food. 16.4.

(WT031721-03) 17 ROSSO PICENO INDIGENOUS, GIORGIO RIVETTI  $16.99
03/17/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 12%; 70% montepulciano, 30% sangiovese; 30 year old vines; no barrel aging. Dark, upbeat, and intensely montepulciano purple stuff, including violets./ Rounded, softened with bottle age, yet retaining that Rosso Piceno consummate brightness. Melted tannins. A good example in a forward vintage. A group favorite. 16.7.

(WT031721-04) 19 EVESHAM WOOD WILLAMETTE VALLEY PINOT NOIR  $26.99
03/17/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (U.S. WEST COAST) 13%; unfiltered; est. 1986. Oh, this has charm. It always does. Just pure, joyous cherry and blossom. Subtle oak-cedar overtones./ Medium bodied. A little of the herbal side in cool, wet 2019, which is countered by cherry fruit sweetness. 16.5.

(WT031721-05) 15 CHATEAU LABAT, CRU BOURGEOIS, HAUT MEDOC  $23.99
03/17/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BORDEAUX) 13.5%; est. 1648; half each cab sauv, merlot; owned by the Nony family along with Ch, Caronne Ste. Gemme; Wine Enthusiast 92/100. Labat blue color./ Wow, that's 2015 ripe, deep, velvety, enticing. Fine oak complex here, the fruit obviously rich enough to handle it./ Yes, cabernet blackberry and black currant, merlot black cherry, barrel contributions--all in synch. Fine tannins almost fully resolved. Bouquet to come. I'd start drinking this at age seven. 16.8+.

(WT031721-06) 18 CHATEAU MUSAR MUSAR JEUNE BEKAA VALLEY RED  $21.99
03/17/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (LEBANON) 13.5%; 50% cinsault, 30% syrah, 20% cab sauv; vines under 20 years old at 1000 meters' elevation; no barrel aging. Full, deep color contributed by the syrah and cab./ Wonderful lift of high altitude cinsault. This variety is surely in its idiom in Lebanon. Sweet black fruits of the latter pair./ Sweet and black fruited. Seems to follow the Euro rouge pattern in 2018. Which gives it a sense of immediacy. 16.4.

(WT031721-07) 18 RIOJA COSECHA, BODEGA OBALO  $14.99
03/17/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (SPAIN) 14%; all tempranillo; vines 40-90 years old; aged in French oak barrels. Full red violet color./ A nice tempranillo freshness to this, along with vintage fruit surge. Nice peppery spiciness./ It's cool and vigorous, with raspberry raciness and black pepper edge. Good acid. Fine tannin. I guess the barrels are well seasoned. This is neither oaky or barrel mellowed. Well, maybe there's a little barrel influence to the aftertaste. Done right. 16.3.

(WT031721-08) 16 COTES DU RHONE DOMAINE BOSQUET DES PAPES, NICOLAS BOIRON  $16.99
03/17/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 14.5%; est. 1860; 80% grenache, 10% each syrah, cinsault; aged in demi muids. The nobility of grenache. It's full, and vintage silky as well. Hand of a Chateauneuf winemaker showing. One large Cotes du Rhone./ The cooperage is expressed in the wine's forward nature at age four plus. It's really developing into a large and complex wine to take to the table over the next couple of years. 16.7.

(WT031721-09) 17 LIRAC, DOMAINE PIERRE USSEGLIO*  $28.99
03/17/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE MEDITERRANEAN) 15%; 15 acres on cobbles & clay acquired by the Chateauneuf estate in 2011; 60% grenache, 15% syrah, 15% mourvedre, 10% cinsault. Oh, my, this will stand in well. Like last week's Mont Redon, it's a really a big boy of a Lirac, showing at Chateauneuf maker's hand. It's distinct from the Mont Redon though. The fruit is lusher, deeper, more accessible at the same age. Spicy, rangy...sprawling, actually./ Equally lush on the palate. That counters its high alcohol, so it doesn't seem at all hot. Not classic Lirac; still, impressive. 17.0+.

(WT031721-10) 18 BABYLONSTOREN SIMONSBERG-PAARL SHIRAZ  $28.99
03/17/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (SOUTH AFRICA) 14%; fermented and then aged in French oak barrels 18 months; 70% new, 30% once used. More about oak than syrah here, and that's not a bad thing at this age. The oak is attractive. The fruit basis is substantial enough to take it up over time. New World syrah sweetness./ Yes, plump New World syrah up front. It commands the oak on the palate. Large scale and ambitious. I'd be curious about its evolution. 16.6+.

(WT031721-11) 18 ANDIS PAINTED FIELDS OLD VINE SIERRA FOOTHILLS ZINFANDEL  $18.99
03/17/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (U.S. WEST COAST) 15.5%; est. 2010; Tasting Panel 92/100. Despite the higher alcohol, there's a freshness and relief to this after the previous two wines. It doesn't exactly pump out the varietal character or show old vines intensity./ The palate is snappy. The fruit is sweet. No sense of diesel power. Good acidity. Just pleasing and priceworthy. 16.3.

(WT031721-12) 18 NIERSTEINER REHBACH RIESLING SPATLESE, WEINGUT EUGEN WEHRHEIM  $17.99
03/17/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (GERMANY) 9.5%; est. 1693. Nose a little shy. Nectarine and tangelo suggestions of Rheinfront riesling./ These are fully forthcoming on the palate. The acidity was masked at first but surged forth later.. Persistent flavor and texture. Well poised. 16.8+.
