(WT011321-03) 18 JULIENAS GRAND CRU ROCHE BLEUE, DOMAINE LAURENT PERRACHON  $17.99
01/13/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (FRANCE BURGUNDY) 13%; blue diorites make up part of the Julienas terroir. That's a proper, well-tailored, blue-fruited Julienas. Well endowed with 2018 fruit attributes but not as forthcoming at this stage as many. I like its poise./ 2018 forward fruit more apparent on the palate. Fruit juicy good acid too. It has Julienas style and makeup. Bravo. Well liked by the group. One participant named it 'wine of the evening'. 17.0+.

(WT011321-04) 14 VILLA MARIA CELLAR SELECTION MARLBOROUGH PINOT NOIR  $29.99
01/13/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (NEW ZEALAND) 13.5%; from the southern valleys; aged 10 months in new & seasoned French oak barrels. Gushing fresh, brisk, cool-climate pinot character. Crisp, dark cherry abundance. Pretty much defines Marlborough pinot noir./ Both rich and racy on the palate, with a nod toward the latter. Most flavorful. Cherry, and oak seasonings. Coffee note signifies it's gathering some bottle bouquet, though, overall, it's hard to believe this is almost seven years old. Acid and screwcap make the difference. 17.0+.

(WT011321-05) 13 LONG MEADOW RANCH FARMSTEAD SONOMA COAST PINOT NOIR  $28.99
01/13/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (U.S. WEST COAST) 14.3%; mainly from Anderson Valley. Well, this wine has crisp, cool SCT/ADV AVA character, plus added richness thanks to the epic 2013 vintage. Youthful still./ Yes, the warmth and suavity of pinot and 2013. Proper, compensating cool climate acidity. Wears its alcohol well. In fact, it's less full bodied than I would have imagined; therefore, more versatile at the table. Smooth, tasty finish. 16.9+.

(WT011321-06) 18 SALICE SALENTINO PASSAMANTE, MASSERIA LI VELI  $14.99
01/13/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 13.5%; est. 1895; all negroamaro; aged 6 months in barriques. The name has geographic meaning; it's not appassimento, though in 2018, in these parts, it's plenty sweet-fruited. Tarry intensity; immediate appeal./ Sweet and gentle fruit flavor. Adequate acidity. Good flow. What it is; what it's meant to be. 16.4.

(WT011321-07) 16 ROSSO DI MONTEPULCIANO, AZ. AGR. POLIZIANO  $18.99
01/13/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 13.5%; 80% prugnolo gentile, 20% merlot. Oh, the brightness, the clarity, the lift of DOCG and local sangiovese clone. This brilliantly portrays all. If you told me it was a Vino Nobile itself, I wouldn't argue./ Yes, silk textured, refined, flavorful, 2016 restrained and elegant. This is a textbook example right down to the hint of violets on the aftertaste. 17.2+.

- (ITALY) 14%; corvina & corvinone 70%, rondinella 20%; croatina and oseleta 10%. Wow! Full fledged ripasso right off the bat. This isn't one of those quicky versions, and, as such, it's very reasonably priced. Valid, amarone-touched depth and concentration./ Emphasized even stronger on the palate. Right down to a suggestion of leather. Shows the way. 17.4+.

(WT011321-09) 15 AGLIANICO DEL VULTURE GUDARRA, BISCEGLIA  $27.99
01/13/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (ITALY) 14%; aged 12 months in French oak casks../ Big, warm, compact, robust aglianico of a sunny vintage. Has earned more bottle bouquet at age five than the older wines tasted earlier in the flight./ Yes, there's a mellowness, a sweet sense of bouquet achievement, in addition to the warmth of the south and the vintage. Adequate acidity, power, and fine tannin keep the ripe fruit from getting mushy. Finishes with composure and finesse. 16.6+.

A modern claret in the best sense. 17.2+.

Soaring fruit, flower, spice, and garrigue overtones along with a very rich underlayment. Got to say this is the best Notre Dame vintage I've nosed./ Dazzling, dancing, complex flavor and texture displays fully underwrite the aromas. Yes, the champion Notre Dame vintage. Touchdown Jesus would be proud. 17.5.

(WT011321-12) 12 RIOJA GRAN RESERVA,. MARQUES DE CACERES  $28.99
01/13/21 Wednesday Group Tasting Notes
- (SPAIN) 14.5%; all tempranillo; aged in new French oak barrels two years' minimum. 2012 dark fruited and compact still. All proper at this point. With aeration, barrel influences come forth, both oak extracts and barrel-time bouquet formation./ More fruit plushness on the palate; the Rioja Baja sort. Barrel age, oak, and oak and fruit tannin each plays a role. A very satisfactory vintage of this that will reward cellaring. 17.0+.
