(N0405-103) 17 LAUREL GLEN COUNTERPOINT SONOMA MOUNTAIN RED  $47.99
U.S. Newly Available 04/05
Wine & Spirits 93: 'Randall Watkins blends Counterpoint using cabernet from Laurel Glen and merlot from Pickberry Vineyards, producing an accessible red that's particularly interesting in 2017. With fires impacting the vineyards toward the end of harvest, Watkins decided to press some of the remaining cabernet immediately off its skins, then ferment it with the skins of the grapes harvested before the fires. He sold off a substantial portion in bulk, maintaining the best results to bottle 800 cases, about half the usual production. The wine is luscious, delicious and pretty great. A luxurious blend with red-plum flavors at its center, it has a juicy black-walnut tone to the tannins, and long-lasting fruit in the finish. $50.'
