A.C. CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE
RHO-129. 04 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE, CH DE BEAUCASTEL half bottle (H) Wine Spectator 96 - COLLECTIBLE: ‘Thoroughly primal, with a torrent of raspberry and boysenberry fruit rushing forth. Only shows hints of its full range, with licorice, incense, graphite and mocha flavors fluttering in the background. Has an iron-clad structure, with a long finish that shows great cut and grip. 2009-2025.’
How Many bottles/singles: 47.99 each
RHO-130. 07 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE, CH DE BEAUCASTEL Wine Spectator 96; Parker 96: ‘Beaucastel’s 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape has turned out even better out of bottle than I predicted. An inky/ruby/purple color is followed by a glorious nose of blue and black fruits, truffles, pen ink, licorice, and meat juices as well as glorious levels of acidity and sweet tannin, buttressing the fruit’s fabulous freshness and vibrancy. This full-bodied effort still displays considerable tannin, no doubt because of the relatively high Mourvèdre content. It should resolve its tannins in 2-4 years, and last for 25 or more.’
How Many bottles/singles: 99.95 each
RHO-131. 03 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE, CH DE BEAUCASTEL (Limited Stock) Wine Enthusiast 95 - Editors’ Choice: ‘It is a rich style, but, more importantly, it is beautifully made, structured, dense, with red jelly fruits, a touch of vanilla and a fat, full-bodied, but firm aftertaste. This is a wine for aging–give it at least five years before touching it.’
How Many bottles/singles: 84.99 each
RHO-132. 07 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE, BERTHET RAYNE Organically grown. At Wine Club: Cooly reductive. Lovely strawberry-raspberry dark fruit elegance of 07 and Berthet. Lovely overtones of Provencal herbs and flowers plus cracked peppercorn./ 07 fruit purity. The usual Berthet stylishness and lift. Tradition indeed. Still plenty in reserve on the palate. Fine tannin. Will become plumper with time. Well poised. Going to be a nice one. 93+/100.
How Many bottles/singles: 34.99 each
RHO-133. 06 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE, BERTHET RAYNE (Limited Stock) Much greater flair and openness than the firm 05. Real strawberry, raspberry, garrigue, and flowers display. Complex, alluring, and Chateauneuf substantial./ Full burst of flavors confirms the aromatic range. Good glycerol helps ease the wine across the palate. Full Chateauneuf power but not roast or burn. Great and classic example of Chateauneuf. 93+/100.
How Many bottles/singles: 32.99 each
RHO-134. 05 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE, BERTHET-RAYNE half bottle (H) Remains black and firm, mysterious. It’s 05, after all./ Full and chewy palate. Certainly has volume and power. Good acidity and a fine tannic core. Aromatically, it’s still bound up. The nature of the vintage. 93++/100.
How Many bottles/singles: 18.99 each
RHO-135. 06 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE FUT DE CHENE, BERTHET-RAYNE Not at all overoaked; just a nice seasoning. Less fruit and vigor than the Tradition, likely because of barrel influence, which will show its purpose as the wine ages. As it airs though, there’s actually plenty of dark fruit evident; just takes its time coming forth./ Fruit and wood in harmony. Both plentiful from a flavor standpoint. No wood stiffness, tannin. Will gain complexity as it ages. 93+/100.
How Many bottles/singles: 38.99 each
RHO-136. 07 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE, DOM BOIS DE BOURSAN Parker 90: ‘The brilliant 2007 offers classic Provencal aromas of garrigue, truffles, ground pepper, and kirsch. This full-bodied, rich, fleshy, complex wine is already drinking well. It should evolve nicely for 10-15 years.’
How Many bottles/singles: 39.99 each
RHO-137. 06 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE, DOM BOIS DE BOURSAN Cool and elegant in the tradition. More so than 05 for sure. There are some real treasures down deep inside there. You really have to delve deep. Bright dark berries with floral highlights. Full class and elegance of the estate plus the brightness of 06 versus the tougher, keeper 05 style./ Intense but mannered, stately, focused. Racy perfumes of flowers and spices, blackberry and garrigue. Marvelously complex. Full promise. 94+/100.
How Many bottles/singles: 42.99 each

How Many bottles/singles: 42.99 each
RHO-141. 06 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE, CHANTE CIGALE Traditional, spicy, black fruited, sweetly grenache. Dark berries, plums, violets, lavender, clove, nutmeg. Wow! Complex! Like the Mont Redon CdR a couple of weeks back, this marks classic CdP styling./ Full, well textured, both racy and meaty. Great structure, acidity, full, fine tannins. 06 elegance. Sweetly fruited aftertaste. Yes, classic. Well liked by the group, which drank almost all of it before I got my first taste. 93+/100.
How Many bottles/singles: 36.99 each
RHO-142. 05 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE VIELLES VIGNES, DOM DE LA CHARBONNIERE Parker 92+: ‘Tightly knit, dense, and interesting, but not able to be fully examined at present. Full-bodied, rich, powerful, masculine, and virile, it needs 3-5 years of bottle age, and should last for two decades.’
How Many bottles/singles: 49.99 each
RHO-143. 04 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE LA BERNADINE, CHAPOUTIER Wine & Spirits 92: ‘Spicy strawberry and red currant flavors are underlined by gamey, meaty aromas, along with notes of licorice and mint. Sleek and stylish, it’s exuberantly fresh and finishes with firm, ripe tannins.’

RHO-145. 05 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE VIEILLES VIGNES, CHANTE CIGALE Parker 93: ‘Deep, full, broad, and full-bodied, with great concentration, depth, length, and aging potential, the 2005 is a beauty. This is a bold wine of considerable exuberance, with impressive levels of kirsch-like fruit intermixed with some blacker fruits, ground pepper, incense, and roasted herbs. It is very full-bodied, has admirable glycerin and depth, noticeable but sweet tannin, and a 40+-second finish. This is a super Chateauneuf du Pape that should hit its peak in 2-4 years and last for 15 or more years.’
How Many bottles/singles: 47.99 each
RHO-146. 05 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE LES HAUTES BRUSQUIERES, DOM DE LA CHARBONNIERE Tanzer 93: ‘Hugely complex bouquet of ripe dark berries, kirsch, game and garrigue. RHO-160. 03 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE MARQUIS, P LESEC Parker 90-94: ‘Virtually all foudre-aged Grenache from vineyards in the northern sector of the appellation. This full-bodied, fleshy, hedonistic, glycerin-imbued effort reveals abundant amounts of raspberry and kirsch fruit. It is best drunk during the first 7-8 years of life.’
How Many bottles/singles: 37.99 each
RHO-161. 06 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE, LUCIEN BARROT Large but cool. Traditional, but not in a rustic sense. Shows the old time whole bunch fermentation characteristics of cool fruit and positive stalk extracts. Subtle garrigue, flower, and botanical nuances./ Yes, the form, the composure, the confidence of traditional Chateauneuf. This hearkens back to wines of the pre-modern era. To days before the international movement hit Chateauneuf, and before everyone started skimming creme de la creme cuvees off the top of the production. 92++/100.
How Many bottles/singles: 42.99 each
RHO-162. 05 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE, LUCIEN BARROT Wine Spectator 93 - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: ‘Dark and muscular, this is layered with lots of plum, blackberry and black cherry fruit backed by mocha, game, plum sauce and graphite notes. RHO-168. 07 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE CUVEE RESERVEE, DOM DU PEGAU Tanzer 93-96; Parker 94-96: ‘2007 is an undeniably great vintage for the Feraud wines. The 2007 Cuvee Reservee, tasted from multiple foudres, stylistically looks to be a hypothetical blend of the 2003 and 1990. The 2007 is full-bodied and powerful, with high tannins, high extract, and tremendous color, stuffing, and richness. It is like drinking a liquified, rare grilled steak mixed with ground pepper, roasted herbs, and spice. Juicy and pure, it explodes with the aromas of Provence. Dense, rich, more structured than the 2003, sumptuous, and deep (in the style of the 1990), it should evolve for 20-25 years.’
How Many bottles/singles: 79.95 each
RHO-169. 05 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE, DOM DU PEGAU (Limited Stock) Tanzer 95: ‘Seductive dark berry and kirsch aromas are complicated by musky garrigue, black olive and dark chocolate. This hugely concentrated wine deftly combines liveliness and power.’

This wine has admirable texture, purity, length, and full-bodied power. It is just a shame that some of the most prestigious appellations don’t have producers making wine as good as this. It should drink nicely for 7-8 years.’

RHO-205. 07 CAIRANNE MAXIMILIAN, LES GRANDS BOIS Parker 93: ‘Blueberry, truffle, tree bark, and sauteed porcini mushrooms intermixed with notes of spring flowers and damp earth soar from the glass of this stuffing effort. Fabulous intensity and texture as well as a full-bodied mouthfeel, but no hard edges, it exhibits terrific fruit as well as noble sweetness and ‘sucrosite’ (the wine is totally dry). This big wine should drink well for 7-8 years or longer.’

RHO-220. 07 COTES DU RHONE VILLAGES CUVEE BEATRICE, DOM VIEUX CHENE 80% grenache, 20% syrah. Seems more open than the other Villages wines. Maybe it’s the extra grenache. Or maybe it’s been in cooperage longer. Not oaky as such, but shows time in cask, which has a broadening effect. Our first experience with this cuvee. Will be intriguing to follow its evolution in this fine vintage. 91+/100.

RHO-233. 07 COTES DU RHONE, DOM GRAND NICOLET Parker 90-93: ‘Of 80% Grenache and the rest Syrah and Carignan, the 2007 exhibits a sweet, creamy, raspberry and cherry nose with hints of licorice, roasted herbs, and peppery spice. RHO-234. 08 COTES DU RHONE LA ROMAINE, DOM LA GARRIGUE Parker 89: ‘Actually declassified Vacqueyras, the 2008 exhibits sweet black fruits intermixed with notions of forest floor, earth, pepper, and garrigue. RHO-235. 06 COTES DU RHONE, E GUIGAL Starts out rather dark and sullen. Opens to gamy richness and purple fruit emphasis. Pretty dense stuff. Guigal style. Northern Rhone-type darkness./ Cranberry fruit and well integrated wood. Dense, thick, powerful. Syrah emphasis. Guigal’s northern Rhone hand showing. This is not at mid age like a lot of 06 Cotes du Rhones. This is young. I wonder how long it’s been in cuve. A signature Guigal Cotes du Rhone, and one of his best vintages. Appealing to drink at this stage. And very impressive for its potential. 90+/100.

RHO-241. 07 COTES DU RHONE, DOM STE ANNE Reductive airs. Strong, dark, closed. Tough for 07. One of the meanest young Sainte Annes. I guess you could say this is like 78. Unfortunate to be tasting a reserved Gard after an openly expressive Vaucluse Cotes du Rhone./ More curves and more panache than the La Garrigue. Blackberry, hint of vanilla. Really concentrated. More powerful than usual. Loaded. But no come hither aspects at present. None of the allure of the last several vintages. Give it the time it deserves. 91+/100.
