| NW-1148. 09 ALFREDO ROCA PINOT NOIR SAN RAFAEL Well, this is real pinot, distinctive, unique. Ripe, pure, deep, and fully packed. I continue to associate Roca’s pinots with the Doudet-Naudin burgundies of yore–a bit eccentric perhaps, but surely to my tastes. This resembles Savigny les Beaune, home of Doudet-Naudin. A dark, Savigny like fruit core./ Sweet cherry fruit with warm spices, especially cardamom. One of the best vintages of this. 09 is sizing up nice in Argentina. I love unique wines, which makes Roca’s pinots some of my favorite from anywhere. 91+/100. |

So for me, this is one of the champs of the series./ Oak dries it out some. Makes it astringent. Hopefully that will settle in. Michel Rolland goes full throttle on oak in his wines, and not even the 08 fruit can compensate in toto. Class wine though. 92+/100. |
