PINOT GRIS

NW-2393. 08 CHATEAU STE MICHELLE PINOT GRIS CV
Full apple and nut varietal character. Less forceful, less peels oriented than some previous vintages. I like this style better. Nice nose./ Mellow. Less grip even than the nose. There was discussion about RS. Most thought the smooth texture from glycerol rather than sugar. Very useful already. 89+/100.
How Many bottles/singles: 11.99 each

NW-2409. 07 CLINE PINOT GRIS SCT
Coppery blush of color./ Luscious custard apple nose. And vanilla creme. This is the form California pinot gris ought to take rather than trying to imitate cool climate pinot grigio, while, ironically, the cool climates are envying California. I’m all for this style of wine./ Hints of lemon and bay add cool, coastal nuances. And it’s dry too, and food-worthy. What a great value! Shows the Sonoma Coast pedigree! 90/100.

EOBNW-2410. 05 MORGAN FRANSCIONI PINOT GRIS SLH - End of Bin
Wine Enthusiast 91 - EDITORS’ CHOICE: ‘This brilliant PG has just a bit of older French oak on it, which adds softening cream, but the wine would be great even without it. The flavors of citrus zest, grapefruit sorbet, melons and figs are enormously rich and strong, and perfectly balanced by crisp acidity and a vibrant minerality leading to a dry, clean finish. What a great price for a wine of this stature.’

Peach-apricot and ginger. Pear, melon, talc, and tea leaf. Cool and silky. Lovely now./ Nice, light touch of sweetness. Very juicy and racy. One of the best vintages of this. EOBNW-2444. 04 MINER SIMPSON VIOGNIER CA - End of Bin
Decanter - American White Wine of the Month: ‘Napa Valley’s Miner Family discovered that very fine Viognier is grown by the Simpson family in the Central Valley. One day John Simpson visited Dave Miner to offer samples of his Viognier, and the rest is history. Since 1997 Miner Family has been making splendid Viognier from the low-yielding Simpson Vineyard in Madera. For this 2004, the fruit was not aged in oak nor did it undergo malolactic fermentation. The result is a vibrant white offering lovely scents of white peach, tropical fruit and floral-honeysuckle. Rich but never syrupy, it offers great fresh fruit flavours and finishes on a racy edge. Arguably one of Miner’s finest Viogniers, this 2004 will provide enjoyment over the next 2-3 years.’

Muscat and riesling. Good, floral, carefully managed muscat fragrance. I would have guessed some chenin blanc from the plump, melony nature. A tiny gem. This sold well at the winery tasting room for years, so someone finally said Hell, let’s market it! 90/100.
