INTRODUCTION
BEFORE THE COLORS FADE
Beaujolais Nouveau, Vinho Verde, Rose. Wine lovers drink them young, and rightly so. That’s what most are designed for. Unfortunately, as the seasons progress, last year’s releases tend to fade from favor quicker than they fade in the bottle. Here are more than 50 that we are proud to stock and to endorse. They are lively, snappy, fresh, enticing, and enduring. To rekindle your interest in our limited remaining inventories, we offer them at a generous discount as we prepare for the new spring releases. Stock up and enjoy during the mild weather spell we anticipate for the next week or so.

INTRODUCTION
16 BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU
The 2016s were delightful from opening night on, becoming more satisfying by Thanksgiving, and more still by Christmas. After that, most folks pretty much give up on them. Not me. I find them most satisfying on Easter.

s0217-103. 16 BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU, ALBERT BICHOT
Bichot’s is the most ‘nouveau-ish’ of the Nouveaux, bursting with aromatic immediacy. Dark berries. No banana and bubble gum fermentation aromas in the 2016s despite a harvest two weeks later than in 2015. Theses are wines fulfilled./ Advanced suavity, smoothness, pleasure. Easier pleasures next to the Villages. 90/100.
How Many: 8.99 each

s0217-104. 16 BEAUJOLAIS VILLAGES NOUVEAU, ALBERT BICHOT
Tart and tannic, original and young. Quite a contrast from the suave and mellow 2015 counterpart tasted alongside. Shows what aging can do as well as the wines’ aging capabilities. 90+/100.
How Many: 9.99 each

s0217-105. 16 BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU, DOMAINE MANOIR DU CARRA
Dating from 1850, Manoir du Carra has belonged to the Sambardier family for five generation. Best vintage ever for this estate from the standpoint of current pleasure./ My goodness, it’s soft, plump, and fruity. Sense of depth, 3-D. Spot on. 92/100.
How Many: 11.99 each

s0217-106. 16 BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU, DOMAINE PRAL
Tasted for the first time two weeks after Nouveau night because it arrived late. Very fruity and bright. Dazzlingly fruity. Has developed padding from the extra weeks’ development./ Yes, fruit, cushion, juice, vigor. Well balanced. Delish. Cool it down a little. 92/100.
How Many: 12.99 each

s0217-107. 16 BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU, ANTONIN RODET
Not as backward as some vintages of this on opening night. Surprisingly sweet and smooth fruit./ Palate shows nice black/purple fruit Rodet quality of former vintages. Good acidity too. Old reliable! 91/100.

INTRODUCTION
VINHO VERDE
They’re spritzy and ‘green’ on release. They tend to retain their brightness throughout fall and winter while becoming rounder and more compatible with cold weather fare. I was sampled on the Ciconia just last week. My notes below from mid summer 2016 are still apropos, while the wine has indeed become appropriately rounder.

s0217-109. (15) VINHO VERDE, BROADBENT
Attractive fizz and scent of the superior, aromatic varieties of the area./ Soft and peachy and overall fruity in this sunny vintage. Works for me. Nice value. 92/100.
How Many: 8.99 each

s0217-110. (15) VINHO VERDE GAZELA, SOGRAPE VINHOS
Still some fermentation residual in June. Gassy. Young./ Soft. Sweetish. Gentle. 88+/100.
How Many: 5.99 each

s0217-111. 15 VINHO VERDE LAS LILAS,ADEGA PONTE DA BARCA
Well, this is much richer and plumper still than Gazela and Famega. The 2015 ripeness comes across. And the superior, more aromatic grape varieties. This tingles. This sings. This soars./ Flavorful. Apple, pear, peach. Wow! Suave, well padded, fabulous value. 91/100.
How Many: 9.99 each

s0217-112. 15 VINHO VERDE CICONIA, ALEXANDRE RELVAS
Fresh and fizzy. Apple and pear aromas. A quencher./ Both sweet and tangy fruit in 2015. Spritzy, lithe. What it should be. 91/100.
How Many: 7.99 each

s0217-113. 15 VINHO VERDE MEIO SECO, ENCOSTAS DO LIMA, ADEGA PONTE DE LIMA
The sole VV of the collection that’s not dry. Peach and light notes of almond, honey, hazelnut. Sweet smelling./ Yes, demi sec indeed, with acid to modulate. Good flavor interest. Baklava. Shows great acid balance on the extended finish. 91/100.
How Many: 10.99 each

s0217-114. 15 VINHO VERDE ANJOS DE PORTUGAL, QUINTA DA LIXA
40% arinto, 30% each trajadura, loureiro. Lovely perfumes of the superior varieties. Spritz too. Better than the popular 2014./ Yes, ripe and savory, spritzy and flavorful. Complete picture. 92/100.

INTRODUCTION
ROSE
Not only are rose sales booming, but they’re also enjoying year round instead of just warm-weather success. So it’s rather a painful decision to discount this collection of mainly 2015s,a great Euro rose vintage.. Some of these I’ve only just discovered, such as the Airfield Estates and the Calavon Aix en Provence–brilliant wines, full and scintillating and perfect to serve at the dinner table over the coming weeks, to tide us over until the 2016s greet al fresco weather. It hurts especially to discount the Tavels–royalties of the rose realm–because I know they’ll continue to improve for two years after harvest. But, alas, 2016 Tavel samples are already crossing my tasting counter.
